Punching with 14 and 16 oz is very difficult. Because the gloves are very heavy, they provide a lot of resistance when you punching. 10 oz is the most ideal and offical. But if you want to make your punches faster and more explosive, 14 and 16 oz are necessary, if you want to be more powerful, 10 oz or 8 oz are good because they have less density and the power goes directly to you
16oz are the best for professional boxing, 14 oz are the best for sparring and training boxing. 10-16 oz for kickboxing competitions, 8-12oz for kickboxing and for mma training, 4-6 oz for mma competitions
If your punching technique is good, you’ll probably not hurt your hand. Even with small gloves. If you’re worried about damaging your hands while doing bag work, then you should probably reevaluate your punching technique. Having more protection doesn’t hurt anyone though, I’ll give you that
10oz is my go to, gives you the best feel and response. People saying 16s for building endurance etc... 16s will teach bad habits and form if you dont already have form nailed down. Im not talking about everyone, but there is alot of bag slappers who always train in 16s 😂 Strength and conditioning plus sparring in 16s will take care of endurance and speed. We are talking about oz's not kilos on your hands after all 😂😂 16s ain't building endurance. 12s are a good compromise, 14s serve no purpose. My personal opinion.
I alternate my gloves depending on what I want to work on. But for sparring always 16, bag work I change it up from fight gloves up to 16oz gloves just depends on what I want to use, I certainly do like hitting the bag with smaller gloves though 8oz 10oz. Especially with bag mitts response is so good and perfect to condition your knuckles. I have all sizes except 12 oz lol. Bag mitts 8oz, 10oz, 14oz and 16oz.
You need all sizes, you should have a pair of light gloves , a pair for sparring…. I collect gloves and just switch out , keeps it fun, fun is good, plus look good, feel good, perform better! 8, 10-12s for technique (mitt work) 14-16 when you have sore hands or doing partner work drills, sparring …. When you train with really heavy gloves you don’t become fast, you just develop bad habits like dropping the hand after a jab, or falling over….. when you have heavy gloves and you lunch slow, it can be discouraging and make you not want to come back to work out, your work out gear should inspire you to work out! You should look 👀 at your gloves and shoes and wraps and can’t wait to get them on for the next day of schooling!
my weight is 77 kilos, and comfortable gloves for my hands is 14OZ. If you big, and more than 85 kilos, i think you must train with 16-18+ OZ gloves, if you are lightweight you can train with 10-12OZ, it all depends on your weight
Smaller gloves helps with accuracy on mitts, helps condition the hands, you get much more feedback on your punches and because you are using smaller gloves you are more concerned about making sure your punches have proper placement and form so you don’t hurt yourself. Just like a fight
I know that gloves can make you think you are protected and that allows you to hit harder making you more likely to be injured when punching. My question is, is there a correlation between glove weight and injuries? The thought here is that boxers usually end up with more hand injuries than MMA fighter, which drops even further in bare-knuckle due to the idea that you can hit harder because you won't hurt yourself as much with more padding. I would assume that the lightest with the least padding for your hand would be the most damaging but then you hit harder if you have more padding which means the heaviest should be at greater odds of injuries. P.S. I hope you all have a fantastic day and stay safe.
