So true ! Socialize socialize socialize!!! I walk my blue Heeler 3 miles to the gastation every. Single. Day…. And it’s always slammed with people and I can tell it’s slowly helping him get use to people , that haven’t kicked us out yet thankfully, so far they like seeing my crazy blue Heeler lol target has kicked us out tho LOL
I rescued the most beautiful stumpy tail red heeler from our local shelter. I have had her for about 4 months an she is undoubtedly the smartest loyal dog I have ever had. Vet says she is about 4 yrs. Old was in very good condition but no micro chip or collar an no one claimed her. Can't believe someone was not hunting her. I put her on every site I knew of no one claimed her. She is definitely part of our family now. We love her so much 💗
I do the three month flea and tick. Because we do the trails also. She will eat them sometimes other times like yesterday she ate half. She will eat anything in HomeDepot parking lot but not her meds.
My dad got a blue heeler when I was 10 years old. Smartest and loyal dog we ever had. When she passed he was heart broken. I’d love to get one myself but am nervous about the exercise requirements.
I'm not an active person but my blue heeler does pretty good. With that, I do try to do a lot of training and mental activities. I taught my girl scent work and she loves it (hide a bunch of cheese around the house and let her run around and find it. It's her favorite thing now). Mental work can be just as exhausting as physical work. Just find way to keep them working often.
Cowboy is so gorgeous. Just beautiful...I had a blue and a cattledog/Rottweiler mix. Love this breed. My cattledog went everywhere with me, velcro dog for sure!! Never alone with a cattledog around.
I enjoy your vids with Cowboy. I have a blue female that turns 2 in July. Your vids help to compare and I don't have to tell you this breed is special!
LOVE your videos! Wish I'd seen them BEFORE I got my girl...but...too late now she's mine & unfortunately stuck with an elderly owner who doesn't get out much!
I've got two female Red Heller one's an older collie mix named Sweedy and the other is a stumpy tail named Cookie. Both are sociable with people and behave well, but when it comes to other dogs. Sweedy does well as long there not enclosing her personal space and not getting jealous over the other dog getting more attention. Cookie kinda needs some better social training as she's closely watches unknown dogs and tries to dominate them, even though she's just a year old and their 5 times her size.
I don't have to go to the vet for flea medicine but, do have to take Hank and Dixie, annually for health check to get heart worm meds. Both have shots for leptosis and rattle snake bite.
Another Australian with a cattle dog, my one will avoid even old snake skins so seems to understand the danger. Haven't yet seen him around a live one yet
His dad worked on a ranch in Texas. While Cowboy doesn't work stock daily I get to put him on them here and there. He has the drive for it. Awesome to see them work
Where did you get your dog at? I'm looking for an Australian cattle dog here in Texas and am having trouble finding one that is available and when I do the sellers aren't contacting me back
Hi Jack, since there are 2 distinct breeds according to the Kennel Club of New South Wales (Australian Cattle Dog vs. Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog), could you cover the differences?
@@diydogguy If you Google the differences between the "ACD vs ASTCD America", you will see the legal differences. Or the NSW ASTCD differences. They are clear about the breeds.
I bring my boy everywhere, no one has comes up to a bearded guy with an all black pointy eared Heeler to turn us away. I love the look on the face of yuppie men who are scared. Get your dog checked out regularly, we train them but the vet keeps them kicking. If you don’t trust your vet….. get a different vet.

As a young red heeler therian (A person who believe scientifically in manys was once or is a certain animal based on, Pastlifes, connections and more) I find this channel comforting :)
Sorry sir, but socialising is finished, when the dog is 6 to 7 months old. After that a dog won't get more social as he already is. Much (aka: most of it) of how social a dog is,, is already predetermined by genetics. You can get a unsocial dog to be neutral, but never to get friendly with the things he /she don't likes.
Dude, just found your channel! I'm from Australia. Cowboy is a specimen. He's perfect! I've got a bluey and wish she was that good looking
appreciate it!

Has Home Depot trained her to expect treats from anyone wearing an orange apron? :D
@@mommachupacabra No treats its hard to keep her at her weight

Hey Manuel. From my understanding the only real difference is stumpy's are born naturally without a tail. I could be wrong, I can look into it.
@@diydogguy They are 2 distinct breeds according to the NSW Kennel Club. Can I send their 2 page differentiation to you in pdf? 2 Distinct breeds.
@@diydogguy I can send you the Australian Kennel Club of NSW pdf that states that they are 2 distinct breeds .

Your dude's a lot stockier than Mars; mine has a more gracile look. But same look on his face - Mars will NOT lie down while the van is moving.
Who did you buy cowboy from? Thanks.
smaller breeder out of texas. Oakwood ACDs
My 13 year old lab/pointer rescue girl hates SNAKES. Funny watching he go crazy attacking shedder snake skins.
