Almost everyone lives in poverty and if you speak out against the government, you'll be thrown into jail or executed along with the rest of your family. It's really sad. I'm sure a lot of South Koreans who still have family in the north would love for the Koreas to unite. However, as long as North Korea has the backing of China, not much we can do. Also, I'm pretty sure East Germany lost control to West Germany after the wall was taken down. The west side offered a much better quality of living thru globalization.

The president can declare martial law, but he needs to get approval from Congress. As specified in the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, the President of the Republic of Korea is the guardian of the Constitution. If you don't abide by the Constitution, you're not the president
