Tis the Season, Right on time sir!🇺🇸 VACA is the gift that keeps on giving. I used this directive with my VA ENT and received a nexus and DBQ for Sleep Apnea. He wrote in my Blue Ribbon Health Record that my OSA is more than likely caused by or made worse, due to my service connected Sinusitis and Rhinitis. I had the DBQ filled out and he signed and uploaded it into my file. He didn’t have to write a nexus letter, his note/ opinion was documented and easy to print. I made his job easy and with the directive he had no problem or reason to refuse. Good stuff Jordan.
Yeah sometimes you need to pay for a nexus letter. There are cases where your private doctor just won’t do it, and just trying to convince them is a lost cause. Good luck to anyone who’s reading this.
I was fortunate enough to get my PCP to write me a nexus letter. Unfortunately it’s really short and sweet and not exactly what C&P examiners are looking for. But I am very appreciative. I decided to also pay for a real nexus letter to include with my migraines supplemental claim. I used Xterra Health and the doctor wrote the most glorious letter for me that was perfect and accurate for my condition. I haven’t gotten my decision letter yet but I’m hopeful.
ramsay, It also has to do with the time the doctor has to talk with you. My ENT ear nose throat doctor is so busy ( to make tons of money 💰 pay his staff, office bills, and self) that I already know he won't do it.
My private doctor tells me it's service connected but refuses to do a nexus letter. He even puts it down in my medical record as service connected. But for some weird reason, won't do the nexus letter or sign one. Any suggestions?
@@pete3882 This is very common unfortunately. My doc was kind enough to write a short n’ sweet “nexus” for me. It’s nothing like what the C&P examiner’s are looking for. What I did end up doing this time around was hiring Xterra Health to write a legit nexus letter for me. Dr. Bahr is awesome and charges a very reasonable price of $500. Instead of $1,000+ Highly recommend.
My VA doctor would NOT write a nexus for me, which forced me to go to my old doctor. My old doctor was happy to write the nexus for me. The only problem was the letter sounded like it was written 5th grader. (No offense to doctors) i finally convinced him to let me write the letter, and he could sign off on it if he agreed with the contents. I wrote an excellent letter using all the VA verbage, and he was very impressed and signed the letter. I ended up not needing it, though, because even the C&P examiner agreed that my claim was very valid and said so in his statement.
My VA Dr.(MD) diagnosed me 10-22-24 with chronic lower back pain (currently rated at 10% lumbar strain), pain of bilateral knee regions (previously denied), essential hypertension (previously denied), Insomnia (previously denied), contact with and suspected exposure to other hazardous substances (also previously denied). What can I do as far as claims with this information?
Thank you for all your help. The information on how to properly submit claims that is not taught helped me get to 100% after 20 plus years of not properly submitting. If there is anything I could recommend it would be do it right to save yourself the years and years of frustration. TY
My VA primary DR wrote my letter 2 hrs later asking him to write one for my anxiety. He responded no questions asked with a well written letter. I submitted that and a personal statement to connect my Anxiety disorder with me tinnitus. Fingers crossed but he was very helpful, I’m lucky to have a good VA Dr.
Good luck I have been denied for secondary to tinnitus and HLR for GERD, IBS, Migraines, and ED theses denials were ACE exams and the same with the HLR, The HLR sent it back to another ACE examiner and they were denied and i had DBQ's and nexus letters for all the claims that i paid a lot of money for. The rater will allways take the VA contractor over a private doctor. My nexus and DBQ's were from doctors and the ACE examiners were nurse practitioners of general family medicine. The VA is trying to deny all claims
Thank you Jordan. What’s interesting is I informed my psych therapist of this directive (1134) and she still indicated they could not assist me in another DBQ (they had did one for me before). The VA doesn’t even follow their own directives!?
Hello, question? I broke my foot in desert storm. Since 2018, i have been dealing with continuous pain in that same foot. Can i file for chronic pain? Also do I have to get a diagnosis?
I had my Nexus letter doctor fill out the DBQ for sleep apnea. It still got denied. Weird thing is Va is the one who discovered I have sleep apnea and I am trying to secondary tie it and it still gets denied. Really odd!!!
I’d be curious to see if your doctor’s nexus contained the magic phrase “at least as likely as not” since that is what the VA needs to hear. Many doctors don’t know how the VA wants to hear the message. Hence the importance of bringing them an existing properly worded template
Nobody at the VA follows Directive 1134. I've given my doctors copies, they still say even if they were to fill out the DBQ they could not say for certain. I've complained to hotline to no avail.
If you applied for a disability rating for “migraines” as a stand alone condition and it was denied can you no longer reapply for migraines as a secondary condition?
i got denied for service connection for Adjustment Disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood. I have a lot of evidence and diagnosis on my record for it. But other conditions got approved... for service connection and compensation.. Odd! as in Dec. 10, 2024
I’m still trying to win my 1151 claim where the va doctor didn’t do anything from giving an exam mri ct scan pet scan xray or anything and I couldn’t walk the only thing done was he gave me medicine and sent me home within 10 minutes the next day I had life saving surgery for a service connected disability and my condition got worse when the cancer came back
I have question for you about collecting social security benefits. Recently a friend told me that as an honorable discharged vetern. I can collect up to $1200.00 extra dollars per year. Explained to me I get $100.00 dollars for every $1000.00 dollars I earned while I was serving, up to maximum military benifit of $1200.00 per year. Is that true? I have never heard this before. If so, how do I go about this with the SSA. I'm not receiving SSA benefits yet, but will in a few more years, definitely less than 5 years. Thank you in advance.
Frankly, the directive gives them an out for nexus specifically, and its enough of one for them to say no. If you push your doctor based on this directive, I'm not sure why you would then want their nexus statement anywhere near your claim after pushing regulations on them.
Yep the get an out if they are “uncomfortable”, which is why the key in the written language is specifically refined to make them feel comfortable giving their opinion. That’s why they went to school after all
I have filed for rate increases a couple of times in the past 20 years. Tried to get 100% . Never approved. Trying again now. My VSO with AMVETS said I don’t need a personal statement letter because it’s just a rate increases not an initial claim. What is your opinion on this.
how do you find out what your actual rating is? Other words what if it’s 87% or 93%? also, if you are going for say 100% and you are currently at 90% do you take risk of losing some or all of the benefits you have gotten up to that point?
I know you're meaning well, but VHA Directive 1134 was due for recertification on 11/30/2021 and has not been recertified. That means this direct can't be used. Sorry to tekk you.

If a Dr. wont diagnose you for whatever reason, whether he/she is a VA doctor or not, can be construed medical malpractice
