Ah, I remember riding 4001 many times in my youth, going to Oregon City to visit my grandfather and to Portland for clarinet lessons. 4001-4 were not my favorites but they were always in service. Portland Traction seemed to exist on second hand equipment except for the old wooden Niles cars. built in 1905 those babies could cruise at 55mph. The Brill Yakima cars bounced around so bad they almost made you seasick. 4011 on loan from some Bay Area historical was noisy and couldn't keep up with the rest of the rolling stock so was seldom used. Then near the end they got the LA cars and burned all the old wooden cars.

Jon Busch, it’s nice to hear from someone who rode it in service. I was lucky enough to get a chance to run it on WRM mainline. It was a fun car to run.

I'd like to add a further comment. Regarding your history of the Portland Kuhlman cars (4000-4005) are you sure only two exist? And I thought 4005 was wrecked and had hit a log truck in Milwaukie though I might have been wrong, it could have been 4000. I never saw 40005 in service. Its livery was cream and orange. All but 4001 were in the Portland Traction colors. Is the car you have the one that was rotting away in the Washington state rainforest? That's where the line car (1058) was as well. It had Brill 21E bogies (very rare). All the wood Niles cars had the same trucks (bogies).
