Micron & Ion do NOT share "exact the same Hardware" ! Micron's advantages over Ion : - more processing power = 8 part multimbral engine ( Ion only 4 parts ) - Reverb - much longer delay - Sequencing - flexible Arpeggiator ( Ion's fixed ) - ( little ) better Keyboard actiont
Sorry for the misleading claim here. What I ment was that the Ion and the Micron use the exact same DSP Chip architecture and are therefore hardware compatiple in terms of the synth engine.
I am still using this as master keyboard and sound source. I would like a second one actually. I own several other older digital synths and recent Behringer and Korg analog synths and I also purchased a lot of software synths (I can say that I nearly exhausted the catalogue of what are available on the internet including Spectrasonics, Native Instruments, Xfer Records, U-he, Steinberg, AAS etc.) but Micron stands out as convenient and good sounding instrument. I love it. Especially multi mode is so much fun.
I have a Akai MiniAk in almost new condition. Will trade for vintage Seiko/Citizen watches, retro skateboards (small ones) and game boy classic games !
This was my very first synthesizer(I wanted a microkorg, but this one won me over). I remember being incredibly confused by the whole synth editing thing and thinking the keys were a bit slippery... But here i am thinking back nostalgically on this little beast. Thing I'm gonna have to grab another one in the near future and reacquaint myself
Pssst... 3 days left on an auction (no power cable and apparently doesn't make sound so probably needs some sort of repair or circuit cleaning) at www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/109849217 (Buy at your own risk, no guarantee for full functionality, cleanliness, whether it needs repairs or not, etc. if you're buying a synth here you must be willing to accept that you might have to clean the inside and outside a bit, look for and buy the correctly specced power adapter separately, or do a little basic handiwork. I bought a Korg Wavestation EX for $280 on there and it works but I had to take it apart to clean the keys because they were sticking. Found 2 dead crickets inside. Memory battery was dead but that's an easy fix. So yeah, again, buy at your own risk; I have gotten stuff with no need for maintenance though!)
Thanks man, I'm really humbled by your comment. Maybe if I start to beg people to 'like, subscribe and hit the bell' (like all the pro-youtubers do😝) the numbers would rise more quickly, but I'm already amazed anyone cares at all and how many people share my love for freaky gear
absolutely ridiculous low number, I wonder if something is wrong witht channel's YT settings. It hardly doesn't show up in results or recommendations unless you search for it.
lol..Nailed the DaftPunk Formant. Also saw the MC303 ( of which I had a love/hate situation with ) in your outro ... thought about getting nostalgic it reclaiming one until I came to my sense. Thanks for the hands-on tutorial brother!
Great, nothing beats the feel and smell of a proper vintage manual. I guess you don't even get these anymore these days, only useless quick start leaflets....
Great overview, cheers…i just picked up one yesterday …I love the character of this bonsai mega synth , I’m yet to overdrive it by sending the headphones out to audio in…
They are certainly wobbly, but work just fine on mine. Whenever you can easily find replacements on ebay, like with this synth's knobs, you can expect some trouble not too far away though 🙈
I had one in 2005.. Honestly? I like this than the Microkorg.. I had both at the same time. I felt the Micron had more to give(fx, sequencer, drums).. That sequencer alone rox
discovered this channel yesterday and directly got a bit fan...but, where do you get this stuff for the prices you're saying? this one I find it not for less then 250\300 euros on ebay :\
Ebay is the worst place to look for synths at the moment. Overinflated prices everywhere. I've actually made a video on how to get synths cheaply a short while ago: ruclips.net/video/UQzO-3uHTsg/видео.html
Hello nice video you talked about ccs so you can control micron from an external sequencer (octatrack) but i heard and saw on the manual that is nrpn only, did i miss something.....
It's a bit hidden but midi ccs can be implemented through the mod matrix. So basically you can have any cc control anything, you just have to set it up, so it's actually super versatile
I'm definitely holding to mine. I've just revisited my video because I'm preparing 'No Talking' versions of most of my videos and I'm still amazed at how nice the Micron sounds. Just hope the encoder knob won't die on me too soon 😬
Anyone on here know who Richard Swift is? A favorite musician of mine, solo artist and hired gun who worked with the Shins, Dan Aurbach, and more. He used an Alesia Micron live often. Just curious if anyone knows about him. Thought it was cool how he used this sleeper but great little synth.
Are those slider knobs 3d printed? Just bought one of these and it's missing a knob, so I'm on the lookout for a good replacement, hopefully one that I can print myself.
Yes indeed, I just picked a knob style I liked off thingiverse and added holes for the sliders. But any standard mixer slider knob should fit just fine. You can buy em off ebay too
Just wondering if you know where you can get those green slider knobs? The one im looking into buying cheap just has a broken slider knob so looking for some good replacements
I printed them with my 3D printer because the stock ones had a very bad grip. I guess you can simply buy fader caps off eBay. Before printing, I tried the fader caps of my Behringer mixer as a test and they fit well.
Hey! Does this have pressure sensitive keys? I've had keyboards in the past that produced vibrato to a sound when the key is pressed harder or a roll to steel drum note for example. Thanks.
Hey Paul, what you describe is called Aftertouch and while the Micron's keyboard does not have Aftertouch (from what I remember) the Micron itself recognizes Aftertouch via Midi and you can program it into sounds via the modulation matrix and use an external Midi keyboard to utilize Aftertouch when playing the patch
@@rejectedsynths I think people are waking up to the MiniAK a little. I got mine the day it hit the shops and it's the last thing I'd ever get rid of. Capable of almost any sound you can imagine and the reverb is really good for something onboard.
I should have seen that one coming 😂 Yeah I speak slingshot guy accent, we all do here in Germany, wearing our Lederhosen and hunting with slingshots so we can make Wurst! 😉
You'll understand the design once you've seen an Ion. They opted for a clean minimal look with both but for many people the Micron ended up looking like a toy. I guess this didn't help sales much and that is probably also the reason the miniak looks so much more conventional

I'd love to have another one myself, since I've discovered the blue reissue that looks great 😍

The envelopes on this sound better than a lot of synths today

I might buy one for a little under 200 because I miss my Microkorg and can't find one that cheap. I remember picking between this and the korg.
Bought in 2006 and still own it. You need to learn to program 1st.
Man, this ridiculous that you have such number of subs and views, you have an awesome channel!

There's an MC303 video I made to chamge your mind on this channel too 😜
This is making me feel even more excited about the Micron on its way to me. Subscribed. 🙏
Thanks for your subscription. Download the manual if you can, it makes diving the menus a lot easier 😉
I believe this one comes with a paper manual, which is better for middle-aged brains. 😅

damn that thing sounds good
If you take into account how much I suck as a keyboard player, even more so 😝
I Love this synthesizer i wish I had another one its awesome!!! I have had mine for 12 years
I just got one for little money and do love it. have you had any problems with the knobs and slider? I read that they're prone to crapping out

@@rejectedsynths thanks for responding... it's an amazing and very capable machine. hope it lasts well
So do I, and if anything breaks, ebay got you covered, just checked and found lots of knobs, pots and keys on offer for the micron 😉
my Micron had pot issues since i bought it, but i recently gave it away and replaced it with the Akai MiniAK. always a fun synth to hang out with.

It as been replaced by the Akai Miniak, same machine anyway.
The MiniAK is overlooked but it's an awesome bit of kit. It runs of of polyphony very quickly though. Even the preset patterns glitch notes.
It's sad to say that the Micron flopped twice, because no one cared about the ak either
