Hi guys! The piece of furniture is called a roll-top desk. Desk made by Abner Cutler r and son who started off as cabinet makers in the late 1820's. They specializes in rolltop desks and by the 1850"s had been granted seven patents related to the desk's mechanism.
Your videos came up on my recommendation list and I am so glad they did. You two are hilarious, I haven’t laughed so much. I love going with you to those old houses and seeing all the vintage things. Like Matt, I think it’s a shame that all those items are just going to waste, or into the garbage. I think they should go into a museum. Thank you for all your hard work and for taking us along with you. Watching from Brooklyn, NYC.
The replica map showing Todmorden in Lancashire must've been old. Todmorden hasn't been in Lancashire since 1888 when the boundary was changed. The old Lancashire/West Yorkshire border used to run through the gent's toilets in the town hall 😆😆. So glad we're in Yorkshire now !!! Top video again... shame it's in Lancashire 🤣
G'day Matt and Andy, you guys have given me a much-needed laugh. I have "Vicks VapoRub" sitting right in front of me now. I wonder when it was changed from "Vick" to "Vicks"? I also have a tube of Savlon. I love how you guys rummage, the things you find are awesome. Another awesome video. Get some rest guys, cheers from Australia.
I just have to let you guys know that If I could pick the perfect family you Mattand Andy you would be in my family you are family to me you make me happy you make me smile you make me smile and when you're not on I miss you God-bless you both and your families yes yes never stop doing what you're doing you have a lot of people who care about you now Much much love
The little metal thimble type things in the desk are to put the ring in off the racing pigeons returning from a race its put into a special clock and it marks the time to see who wins the race
To those who were wondering- 24:38 This is a tourniquet The wooden pieces in the first-aid box were splints. The cold cream can be used to clean skin, moisturize and remove makeup. (I use Ponds cold cream as my makeup remover.) I'm not sure how else it would be used for first-aid. That box was a treasure trove of awesome finds. I loved all the different tins and bottles. I don't know how you guys resist rescuing some of these finds! I guess you guys are just better people than most.😉 Edited to add- One of these days Andy needs to be the cameraman and Matt can be the one who's constantly being commanded to "pick it up" "turn it around" "other way" "no, the other way, you nonce"... That sounds like good payback for Andy. Poor guy is constantly being ordered around.
Love your videos lads, you have a good auld rummage without all the ghost rubbish, proper exploring 👍🏻 I remember my Aunt collected embassy tokens in the 60s and you bought stuff out the embassy catalog for hundreds or thousands of points. Keep up the good work guys Stay safe 👍🏻
there was a shop near our house who used buy coupons off you me and brother would pinch a bundle now and again and sell some and buy sweets they never knew as they were both chai smokers at the time lol
Happy to say new talent is coming forward in regards to making furniture that isn't big production. Sad to see such treasures left to rot. Families used to have more pride in their heritage. Much appreciation 💛
The desk with the roll top is called a secretary, The two tongs are for tagging animals. The tongs with pins is for ID tattooing, was used before tags were invented.
OMG these need to be in a museum is there no way of reporting this to a museum in London or somewhere to save these items it’s such a shame to see them just sat there!!!
Matt and Andy are very good friends; they are open with one another, I have seen. Matt, empathetic and high energy, is not maliciously mean to Andy, who is mellow. They're just good together.
Great video , guys , The bureau Is called a ROLLTOP., glass is from a mantle clock , The shears are Called Dragging shears , Gun case is called LEG OF MUTTON , Embassy coupons were collected U saved up so many to get items from a catalogue , MATT ,daily papers are now £ 1:80 each Sunday papers are £ 2: 10
... Embassy vouchers- you saved them up and you'd receive a catalogue of things you could swap them for. Radios, ,Stereos, watches, toys all manner of stuff. My grandma got me my first Timex watch using them (1966 baby same as you Andy, my dad always told me that England won the world cup by way of celebration!) . Some stuff you could get for 50/ 100 vouchers .. the top end stuff would mean collecting thousands.
I really laughed about the pidgin nasal drops!! 😂😂😂. Awe, Matt, I don’t really think you’re mean to Andy a lot off the time. 😂. This was a really good find. I lost some of my comments that I head before. I love you both…keep us in stitches!!
Wow! What good finds! Lovely place! Such a shame it is all just dying away..😕 so glad you are back! Please get some rest. Ya both look properly washed out! Thanks for keeping going for us!💕
Cold cream in a first aid box. Mmmmm makes you wonder ! Flat board maybe for fractured limb to support it with bandages wrapped around until they found a dr. MAYBE...
🎉 congratulations for coming back on your channel guys, you do look washed out but hopefully you will get rest soon. Now watching this fabulous looking video. Xx
THIS WAS HILARIOUS GUYS , BUT THAT MEDICAL KIT WAS COOL SHOULD BE IN A MUSEUM , THAT ONE WAS A REALLY OLD SPLINT , THESE PLACES ALWAYS MAKES YOU WONDER WHO THEY WERE , OK MATT SHOULD MAKE AND EAT SOME OF THE OLD JELLO SINCE HE EATS NASTY STUFF 🤣 TAKE CARE BROTHER'S 🤘🤘
Yes. Sirrrrrrrrr, so enjoyed this one Matt, and Andy! Get your rest of cause, looking forward to the next adventure, boys! Love Watching from New Zealand with Love.
Great video guys, Matt was a little bit nicer to Andy but probably because he was a bit tired lol! Very funny banter between you though! Was cool you found the photo of the trophy! 🏆that "Sports" magazine 🤣looking forward to next video. Think I'm pretty much caught up now!
Those 2 " hole punch" looking items are possibly ear tag piercers for cattle, sheep, and horses. The first aid kit could be for animals, but I do not know.
Oh jeeeez you 2 get worse honestly 🤣 brilliant video and I have never heard of nasel drops for pigeons 🤣 glad you are both back safe & sound plus didn't watch videos of you both doing road trip to mareckesh as I have not been to well with my mental health problems so got loads to catch up on.... anyway Glad everything went well love this video love you guys fantastic stuff xx
33:51 no mean to brag but I'm on that tree 😂 King Henry VII is my great X18 grandfather. We traced back to King James V of Scotland and he's my great X16 grandfather. After that it just spirals. William the conquerer is one of my greats but it's some stupid number..... It gets pretty incest. Henry VIII is a great grandfather/uncle so it's nothing to be proud of 😂
Wow! Embassy vouchers! You would get a 5 token with a twenty pack and a 2 token with a ten pack of cigs. Save them up and take them to the Embassy shop where you could buy household items with them. I remember them well as my dad smoked Embassy and my mum saved the vouchers for something they would need for the home. Gosh! What a blast from the past!
Oh no!!!! I used to have a thing for roll top desks, and usually when they are made (at least with the older ones and mine was almost exactly like the one you guys are oogling maybe a bit older and made of the most wonderful smelling cherry wood!!!) there's a seal made of metal around the side or front that will usually boast about the day or at least the year it was made. But this thing would be heavy and probably hard to move!!!
Lads! The comb you found right at the beginning was a nit comb! Oh I recall it every Saturday night in the sixties _ and I had long hair! Thanks mum - at least I didn’t have nits lol xxxx love youse xxxxx
Can you imagine someone asking the former owner; What you doing this weekend?" The owner; I think I'll just stay home, shave the pigeons & put drops down their tiny nostrils"🙂😆🙃( there WAS that "mystery shaver" nearby).😉Great video! btw that might create some VERY angry pigeons!!😅sorry, couldn't help myself!
Got this notification and I was a bit scared to come in case you were wearing a dress again or something. All looks normal lol, so I'm going to settle down with a cuppa and watch, looks like a good explore 😊👍

This looks great can't wait definitely need more videos I only noticed your videos couple of weeks ago killed neatly all of them off lol
Desk is 'Cutler', in good condition it would be worth about £700. It's around 1910-1920. Very nice!
33:51 no mean to brag but I'm on that tree 😂
King Henry VII is my great X18 grandfather. We traced back to King James V of Scotland and he's my great X16 grandfather. After that it just spirals. William the conquerer is one of my greats but it's some stupid number.....

The large knob shaped container is a 50/60ml syringe case, commonly used for large animal medication 😊
In the US we call that a roll top desk. That piece of furniture you are looking at, at the beginning. I'd like a desk like that.
A secretarial
Matt, you’re thinking of the Kohinoor diamond 💎 and that’s not it....it’s in the crown worn by the Queen.
the 'picture frame' glass looks like the front to a carriage clock.
