    In a world where there are so many options, the inability to choose is a plague on everyone. Fear of missing out and self doubt are just manifestations of the fact that people don't know who they are and don't have the courage of facing themselves or accepting themselves for who they are

  • @Knight1029
    @Knight1029 8 месяцев назад +10

    I agree in the Know Thyself section wholeheartedly. It's not that there was no freedom just that there was no other choice that would make sense for Neo to make. Neo is Neo and he will make the choices he wants to make.
    Choices do seem odd and scary but knowing who you are makes them easier to make. It is such an important lesson to learn. You have to think about who you are and what you want. It took me some time to understand that idea at all.
    Another great video and I hope to see many more.

      @@CynicalWarlock what i mean is free will is real but it does not really work as most people think it does..
      free will is something that need to be polish through knowledge and perspective.. without them one is just a slave to the chaos or machine around them and a slaves to an undisciplined id.
      and. To have a choice you need to have the knowledge that there is a choice in the first place.
      and that knowledge is the one that most be earned..
      sure there is always people around willing to tell you what truth is... but it always one's responsibility to make sure that the knowledge one is given is indeed truth and not a lie.
      ..other wise .. you risk being a slave to the lies of the world.

    • @CynicalWarlock
      @CynicalWarlock  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@PK-MegaLolCaT Very good point. Free will with 0 knowledge is arguably no free will at all. And again, both the Merovingian and the Oracle stress the importance of knowledge and truth. It's cool cause the Matrix movies go to great lengths to portray the pursuit of knowledge as this grueling trial by fire (escaping the Matrix is a painful, visceral experience, confronting the Architect is a depressing gut punch etc.), yet also a necessary one, in order to truly attain free will - that informed choice.

    Man, I enjoyed that one. Very deep discussion as I sit here on a Sunday morning. To understand your path, you have to know yourself. To change your path you have to change yourself so you make different choices. Or do we change who we are by making different choices...
    Is the matrix alone in tackling deep philosophical questions like these or are there other films that do it. I'll have a think. Thanks as always for a great vid, Cynical. So... You're doing requests now...😄

      You make an interesting point about determenism
      it is quate a balancing act between determenism and free will , but not impossible one. I think the point that separates determenism and fatalism might be responsibility , accepting determenism isnt inherуntly a wrong idea provided it is not the way to dodge the responsibility , since by avoiding the responsibility you also start your decent in to fatalism and nihilism. After all why bother if anything is predetermined
      Somewhere between all this there is a choice to be made , but you put it best , the choice to know thyself and why you make that choice.After all if u look at determenism as the fortm of faith in yourself and as a form of faith in your choice , you are also accepting responsibility for yourself
      u made me think twice in one day i hate that XD

      @@ManOfTheMounten Yeah, thinking is hard, especially twice a day. Just joking; I'm glad you enjoyed the videos.
      And you're spot on: using fatalism as a scapegoat to avoid taking responsibility for your own life, keep being lazy, avoiding difficult tasks etc. - that's actually you robbing yourself of your own destiny.
      So I like this distinction between determinism and fatalism.

      I'd consider it a valid interpretation, whether it was intended at the time or not. A lot of my own work pre-transition had some weird unintended parallels to what I'd later go through.
      I think their interpretation also holds water. The entire thing IS about choice, but what choice were the Wachowskis trying to answer for themselves is another question. That "less male" comment was definitely a bit of an oof though.

    • @CynicalWarlock
      @CynicalWarlock  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@aliciagrayson4203 No hate intended. It's just hard for me to justify the Matrix as a metaphor for transgenderism; if you go back and look at the creative process, behind the scenes and sources of inspiration for this movie, it becomes clear that it had little, if anything, to do with transgenderism.
      But I imagine transitioning definitely makes you see everything in a new light; including your past. You sort of have to.
