In a world where there are so many options, the inability to choose is a plague on everyone. Fear of missing out and self doubt are just manifestations of the fact that people don't know who they are and don't have the courage of facing themselves or accepting themselves for who they are
Or they're just pussies.
I agree in the Know Thyself section wholeheartedly. It's not that there was no freedom just that there was no other choice that would make sense for Neo to make. Neo is Neo and he will make the choices he wants to make.
Choices do seem odd and scary but knowing who you are makes them easier to make. It is such an important lesson to learn. You have to think about who you are and what you want. It took me some time to understand that idea at all.
Another great video and I hope to see many more.
Yeah, and the self is kind of fluid, so that complicates things.
@@CynicalWarlock most definitely. The self is ever changing and evolving. Ask anyone 5 years ago what they are like and they will be completely different.
Also what did you think of the 4 Matrix movie.
@@Knight1029 What 4th Matrix movie?
@@CynicalWarlock true enough.
Man, all I wanted on a Saturday night was to chill with a drink and have some chuckles at your snarky opinions on one thing or another, and you drop this...
Now I have to contemplate my choices so far and the meaning of life, which means I'll need more drinks.
Great content, as always
Might get a drink, myself.
dunno how this video has only 1k views great work my guy. I hope to meet people like you
Hey, it worked hard for those 1k views. :P
Glad you liked it.
Pleased to meet you.
@@CynicalWarlock yezzir you’ll see me around. Tekken content next? 🙈
@@codeobsidian Heh, no promises.
i agree with everything expect your conclusion. "choice" isnt a power we all have.... "choice" is a power we can all *obtain* .
Except the decision to obtain choice.. is also a choice.
@@CynicalWarlock what i mean is free will is real but it does not really work as most people think it does..
free will is something that need to be polish through knowledge and perspective.. without them one is just a slave to the chaos or machine around them and a slaves to an undisciplined id.
and. To have a choice you need to have the knowledge that there is a choice in the first place.
and that knowledge is the one that most be earned..
sure there is always people around willing to tell you what truth is... but it always one's responsibility to make sure that the knowledge one is given is indeed truth and not a lie.
..other wise .. you risk being a slave to the lies of the world.
@@PK-MegaLolCaT Very good point. Free will with 0 knowledge is arguably no free will at all. And again, both the Merovingian and the Oracle stress the importance of knowledge and truth. It's cool cause the Matrix movies go to great lengths to portray the pursuit of knowledge as this grueling trial by fire (escaping the Matrix is a painful, visceral experience, confronting the Architect is a depressing gut punch etc.), yet also a necessary one, in order to truly attain free will - that informed choice.
@@CynicalWarlock you ever seen donnie darko? i get the feeling you would love the directors cut of it
@@PK-MegaLolCaT I know the movie, but I've never had the pleasure.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Excellent video bro 💯 I hope your channel grows and you make more of this high quality stuff
Well that second part is guaranteed, at least.
Thank you, Mr. Wayne.
A dang good analysis of the Matrix.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Sequel films deserve some love.
Man, I enjoyed that one. Very deep discussion as I sit here on a Sunday morning. To understand your path, you have to know yourself. To change your path you have to change yourself so you make different choices. Or do we change who we are by making different choices...
Is the matrix alone in tackling deep philosophical questions like these or are there other films that do it. I'll have a think. Thanks as always for a great vid, Cynical. So... You're doing requests now...😄
With a huge amount of delay between the request and the video, yes.
You hit the nail on the head: do we change ourselves to make different choices, or do we make different choices to change ourselves?
The answer is 'yes'.
Incredible content as allweys ❤
Thanks for watching, as always.
oh yeah , this is the content i need
Well hello again. Glad you found your way here, mr. Aku.
You make an interesting point about determenism
it is quate a balancing act between determenism and free will , but not impossible one. I think the point that separates determenism and fatalism might be responsibility , accepting determenism isnt inherуntly a wrong idea provided it is not the way to dodge the responsibility , since by avoiding the responsibility you also start your decent in to fatalism and nihilism. After all why bother if anything is predetermined
Somewhere between all this there is a choice to be made , but you put it best , the choice to know thyself and why you make that choice. After all if u look at determenism as the fortm of faith in yourself and as a form of faith in your choice , you are also accepting responsibility for yourself
u made me think twice in one day i hate that XD
great content
@@ManOfTheMounten Yeah, thinking is hard, especially twice a day. Just joking; I'm glad you enjoyed the videos.
And you're spot on: using fatalism as a scapegoat to avoid taking responsibility for your own life, keep being lazy, avoiding difficult tasks etc. - that's actually you robbing yourself of your own destiny.
So I like this distinction between determinism and fatalism.
Tottaly beautiful video-essey you made Sir, I am so content, happy and amazed that you gave me impuls to watch matrix trylogy one day, because previously I watched first movie 9 years ago or so in primary school, and generally I thought of it as an adventuretye of movie, but you gave it so much depth, that I love it now. Thank you ^^
You're very welcome. I didn't notice most of this stuff either back in the day, but that's the beauty of how these films are put together; they're action films, on the surface, but have many more layers of meaning to delve into, for those who are interested.
Beautiful video. A love letter as well. 👏
Thank you, good sir.
Beautiful! Simply BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you! Didn't expect you to find the Matrix video.
@@CynicalWarlock I'm a big Matrix fan. I like watching theories and philosophical views of the series. Like the channel Matrix Explained.
@@darknesslight3100 Glad you liked it.
Matrix *and* MK fans are rare, I think.
Damn good analysis
Glad you enjoyed it.
Always loved the first Matrix - only ever watched the other two once. Didn't ever really think too hard about the overall message of the entire trilogy, since I disliked the sequels so much. But this almost makes me want to re-watch the sequels again... Almost.
Damn it, I knew I shoulda made the video twice as long.
@@CynicalWarlock more of your shit is always good man 👍👍
“What the matrix is really about” you mean besides a philosophical epic on the nature of freewill, determinism, system oppression stripping us of identity, and an exploration of trans identity through a deeper spiritual awakening? Havent watched video yet but am genuinely always ready to hear a new perspective
Yes and no.
Literal chills 😮
Grab a coat.
Yo could you do a terminator video next? The matrix and terminator are connected supposedly

Love me a Cynical Warlock video essay. Also, I really should watch these movies, huh.
Yeah uhm.. spoiler alert
The Wachoski SISTERS*
With dicks.*
I'm just starting the video but I'm really hoping you touch on the trans allegory... We shall see.
Not really. Save your time.
@@CynicalWarlock Less male? Are you fucking kidding me?!
@@beautydraugr Told you to save your time.
oh ok so it IS about being transgender
All that work for this conclusion.
I'd consider it a valid interpretation, whether it was intended at the time or not. A lot of my own work pre-transition had some weird unintended parallels to what I'd later go through.
I think their interpretation also holds water. The entire thing IS about choice, but what choice were the Wachowskis trying to answer for themselves is another question. That "less male" comment was definitely a bit of an oof though.
@@aliciagrayson4203 No hate intended. It's just hard for me to justify the Matrix as a metaphor for transgenderism; if you go back and look at the creative process, behind the scenes and sources of inspiration for this movie, it becomes clear that it had little, if anything, to do with transgenderism.
But I imagine transitioning definitely makes you see everything in a new light; including your past. You sort of have to.
@@aliciagrayson4203Pretty transphobic comment he said...
@ghonnh20 yeah. Sad, I really liked the MK vids.
