Oh my! That was a challenging but breathtaking hike. I agree. You were looking out on the Gates of Mordor. Thanks for taking me along. At 69 years old and out of shape, I don't think I'll be doing that hike myself.
My wife and I were at Black Canyon this summer. We went to the Dam, the train, the canyon and every view point, BUT, WE NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED DOING THE HIKE. My compliments and congratulations. But to our defense we are in our upper 60's. Keep it up
Beautiful video. The scenery of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is amazing. If you visit in the summer time, the NPS has a boat tour of the canyon. It is a short hike to the boat, but it is easy. The tour is well worth the time and cost.
Thank you for show me the Black Canyon at my age an bad knees I would never be able to make that trip I enjoyed it from my recliner in my living room thank you 😀
This is one of your best videos, that was quite an adventurous hike down the canyon, wow, your pretty brave 👏 😀 👍, views were great, your narrating was really good, bet you two slept good that night , how long did the hike take ??, your doggies were very excited to see 👀 you 😀 when you got back, travel safe
Yowza - what a hike!! 😳 Such beautiful scenery, and like you said, step out of the comfort zone and GO FOR IT!! Thanks for taking us on your adventures - so fun and empowering. Looking forward to the next vlog release!! 👏🏻
I am a student here at Western, just 10 minutes from Black Canyon. Last week we had a student go missing and his body was just found at the bottom of the canyon. It is a harsh reminder that places like these are just as dangerous as they are beautiful. Stay safe y'all
Haha, we agree!! Sorry to hear about your hiking partner, the NPS didn't say anything about not allowing solo hikers but I would call first just to be sure 👍
I am glad to actually KNOW someone who made the hike. My wife and I were there one week before you (parked in the "B" loop - it had electricity), but she gets 'weak in the knees' above 5000 feet. So, we toured the drives, and filmed the sunset from Sunset View overlook. Congrats on the hike, which I am sure was a challenge for you at that altitude (I am a native Coloradan, living in Utah, and used to hike Fourteeners, peaks over 14,000 feet.) Great video, nice editing!
Hello, when you said you were leaving Colorado National Monument for the Black Canyon the first thought I had was would you two even consider hiking/ scrambling one of the 4 trails to the river. And you did and I am so glad you did. I consider the Gunnison as well as the other 3 trails some of the most unique/ scenic in the state. You mentioned The Gates of Lodore, they exist at Dinosaur National Monument where the Green River enters the monument on the north end. The Gunnison River in the canyon offers Gold Medal trout fishing. When I was younger we would descend to the river down Dead Horse Gulch and float and fish the river. Looking forward to the next episode???
I admire you two video taping this hike! WOW! 😳 I can’t think of any hike we’ve done that was this difficult. I can’t imagine coming back up that tail with the chain. 😬 Did they tell you to bring gloves to put on when you are on your way back up? That smile at the bottom says it all! I bet that water felt good on your feet. Beautiful views. Thanks for sharing this experience.
Well first off I'm glad we all did not have to get together and send out a search party for you two man that hill look really steep with that chain on it the dogs look really good you guys look like you're having fun beautiful country you guys take care of yourself and I'll see you next week
Stunningly beautiful, but on my aaaagghh hiking down that steep slope and knowing I have to go back up and I can't breathe at that elevation etc etc etc - oh my . Impressive!!! I think you impressed your dogs as well (they must have listened to the ranger talk - ha ha) - and the brown water!
I really enjoyed this one, you two were great. What I enjoyed the most was the positive attitude before, during, and after a difficult task. Now continue to challenge yourself more often, it's fun.
I was at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison last year and was very pleasantly surprised by it. It doesn't get the attention it deserves. At the time, I knew my knees wouldn't allow me to do the hike. Watching this only confirms that. But I sure appreciate your taking me along so I could experience some of it.
Many years ago my wife and I hiked to Druid Arch in Canyonlands NP. There was no permit required then. The ranger who explained it to my wife didn't make it sound as bad as it was. Granted, it was just the last half mile to a mile that was a scramble, but we were not expecting that. It is good to hear your experience was spot on with the explanation from the ranger. It seems three of the channels I subscribe to that are full timers in Airstreams were all in Colorado at about the same time. I wonder if all that silver at once was visible from the International Space Station.
Love your query ‘the dam is over there?’ TJ patiently saying ‘no it’s over there’ . That massive wall of concrete in front of us!! It’s like when I’m asked where the cathedral is by tourists in Salisbury. ‘It’s that huge spire in your eyeline that you can’t possibly miss!’ lol
Good video - several folks commented they couldn't do the hike for physical reasons. You can drive down to the east portal right on the Gunnison river which is a fantastic but steep road (16% gradient in places). Just take the first right immediately after the ranger station when entering the park. Use low gear to avoid overheating your brakes. Also - excellent trout fishing there too...
Great job on the video you two. Thank you for sharing. You do a fantastic job describing the area, the hike, and the logistics it takes to go on these adventures.
That was awesome!!! I live in Colorado, haven’t been to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, but really want to go now! You guys are so much fun to watch!!❤️
One of the reasons I built my first vacation home between Gunny and The Butte is due to the Black Canyon. Love that hike. You need to bag a 14er next time your in Rado, something on the easier side of things like Handie Peak. Jeeping and hiking in the SW corner of the state made me build my second vacation home between Durango and Mancos. Just too many great things to do out there.. Don't tell too many people about how awesome the area is for fun, fewer people the better!!! Great Video
Incredible! Well unless I get two new hips this one isn’t happening for me . So glad I got to go along! I hope you do a few more fun hikes 🤩 in the future! Sounds like you will! 😀
After completing that hike, you two are "Rock Stars" in our book. Glad the Ranger put the safety scare in to both of you before you started out and you prepared for the hike/climb. Would hate to have see you try that in flip-flops or sandals! Great video as always. Safe Travels ...Zephyr
This was very cool! I’ve been to Black Canyon a few times on motorcycle trips to Colorado. Never did any hiking tho. This makes me want to go back and try this trail!
I’m glad you guys did that hike so we could enjoy the views without the scary parts. Great video showing some fantastic scenery. I’ve been to the area before but really want to go back. Glad you had such a successful hike. 👍
Thanks for showing this. Two years ago I was there and as soon as they talked about the chain hand rail I bowed out. I'm not as old as dirt but I was around when they patented it. The train and the trestle we're still being refurbished so we missed that as well.
that view was amazing!!! thank you for taking us along for the trip!!! the fall colors were beautiful... i have not had a day off this year, work has been very hectic/busy.. its great to get to enjoy the fall colors even if it thru someone else!!! thanks again
Amazing country, will definitely have to go there someday. Extremely well done video! Editing and music are amazing, excellent job. I always look forward to your videos.
Those views!!! This just moved to the top of my bucket list! I’ve actually been to the park when we lived near grand junction but we just did the brief trail near the visitors center (I was with family and no one wanted to do anything else. It’s even more beautiful down in it!!!
I found your site about a month ago when I was investigating adding solar to my power supply. Thanks for showing how you built your system. Since then I've gone back and followed your journey from the beginning. Thanks for sharing your videos and i appreciate seeing details of the various places you have stayed. We visited a number of them years ago, but didn't typically stay more than a day or two, so a very thorough sharing of your visits is nice to see. I have a question and an observation. I note that I saw in two different van reorganizations that you have a Solo stove. Do you use it much? I have not seen it in use. in your videos. I have one as well and wonder if it is worth taking long. An observation: I note when you use hiking or trekking poles, I haven't seen you use the strap properly. Perhaps you do, and just haven't been using it when it has been on video. So, this comment perhaps isn't for you, but for others who follow your adventure. Using the strap properly allows the user to hold the pole loosely and more relaxed while still being able to propel yourself forcefully. To use them the right way, put your hand up through the bottom of the strap and then pull down and grab the grip of the pole. The strap will be on top of your wrist and your hand will be gripping the pole and the strap. This technique supports your wrist and heel of the hand and allows you to keep your hand relaxed on the grip. Try walking with this technique and then without. You will notice a difference and your arms and hands will be more relaxed. Here is a link showing this technique. www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmontemlife.com%2Fhow-to-use-trekking-poles%2F&psig=AOvVaw1y-wFBr_g9iBG671od8laL&ust=1612304386238000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCLDd1Ibcye4CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAI Sorry for the long post and I apologize for being so presumptuous about the trekking straps. Thanks for being down-to-earth folks sharing your adventure.
That was amazing and to add to the difficulty you had cameras. You've been at elevations long enough to have acclimated. My wife and I did a Llama hike in the Sangre de Christos outside of Taos several years ago. We had done high altitude hiking and should've known to acclimate before the hike that would take us just shy of 13,000' but we reasoned that we would have guides and Llamas to carry our camping gear so we shared a bottle of wine the night before the hike. Big mistake the hike was a scramble and altitude sickness made for splitting headaches no appetite and no sleep. We both are native Floridians and the hike was one day after flying to New Mexico.
This is a hike we would never be able to do (in our 60s), so I really enjoyed going along with you! Thanks for the trip!❤️
Woowh. That was quite a hike, but I didn’t even break a sweat sitting here on my couch. Thanks for letting me come along. 💪🏼
Thanks for another great video. And for letting me go with y’all
Oh my! That was a challenging but breathtaking hike. I agree. You were looking out on the Gates of Mordor. Thanks for taking me along. At 69 years old and out of shape, I don't think I'll be doing that hike myself.

Have physical disabilities that prevent some of us from doing this, Thank You for bringing us along. Have really enjoyed watching and hiking with you.
This is probably the best video I’ve seen in a long time! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
THAT IS A NICE CHAIN. IT IS AMAZING HOW MUCH AMERICA HAS TO OFFER. SO MANY BEAUTIFUL PLACES.
Beautiful video. The scenery of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is amazing. If you visit in the summer time, the NPS has a boat tour of the canyon. It is a short hike to the boat, but it is easy. The tour is well worth the time and cost.
WOW Beautiful. Thank you for sharing
Thanks so much for videoing this... we have add this to our bucket list of hikes to do... Chasing RV Sunshine ☀️ Joel, Deb & 🐕 Maya
What a beautiful view. Thanks for taking us along!
We think you guys are beautiful people! We need more like you very badly😀
Watched this one twice, back to back! That hike was awesome and thanks for sharing your experience with us.
That looked like it had potential to be a real ankle twister! What a beautiful video and so fun to watch.
Great video! Your camera work and music during the hike was spectacular.
Wow! Beautiful Adventure!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing this with us
All I can think is Wow! Great job conquering that hike! So impressed thanks for taking us along. So beautiful.
Thank you for show me the Black Canyon at my age an bad knees I would never be able to make that trip I enjoyed it from my recliner in my living room thank you 😀
I look forward to your weekly vlogs!! You two are fabulous !!
Your video work to capture these scenic vistas is almost magical and spiritual...thank you!
I think this was my favorite episode. Great adventure, beautiful scenery. Thanks for taking me along.
What an epic win!! Well done on taking the risk and conquering the unknown!!
Awesome climb guys, it was fun just watching... Spectacular scenery 🤗👌
Wow!!
Double Wow!!
That was a hike that a pro would also have popped an Aleve or two to reduce any swelling.
Congrats on achieving this goal.
Thanks, Gary! We love it when a video comes together well 😊 The hike ended up being about 6.5 miles total and took around 6 hours.
Sorry we didn’t see you drive through Gunnison.
What an epic adventure, thanks for sharing the adventure.
Yowza - what a hike!! 😳 Such beautiful scenery, and like you said, step out of the comfort zone and GO FOR IT!! Thanks for taking us on your adventures - so fun and empowering. Looking forward to the next vlog release!! 👏🏻

Wow...what a hike and scenery ....thanks for taking me along !
Not sure if I would attempt such a hike, however you folks are an inspiration to do things outside your comfort zone. As usual, great video and music.
Hiking Sticks! Don’t leave home without them!
My usual hiking partner just bailed on me. Do they allow solo hikers?
Beautiful!

Incredibly breath taking beautiful hike. Way to go y’all!

Thanks for this preview! We're going to try to get permits this weekend, and if we're lucky enough to get them now we know what we're getting into :)
As usual very beautiful thanks for taking me to a place not possible for me at my age to ever think about doing.
Hi guys, Sandy and I want to thank you for taking us on a hike we never could have done ourselves, it looked absolutely beautiful and amazing.
That was a glorious video. Your hiking shoes are just too, cute. And I don't mean This. 😉

As everyone has said....WOW. Amazing views and quite a challenge. You both are in great shape to be able to take on that hike. Good job.

What an epic hike!! Definitely adding that to my list!
Awesome hike I'm very grateful for your Chanel thank you both
That was really awesome. Fantastic views. Thanks for showing us.
Nice job documenting that route! I know it’s more steep than a camera can capture.
Wow! What a hike!
That payoff was amazing!! Laying on the rock with your feet in the river was fantastic!!
That was awesome!!! I live in Colorado, haven’t been to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, but really want to go now! You guys are so much fun to watch!!❤️

Good for you guys! That's on my list and I live in Colorado so I really have no excuse.
Wow! And add taking video to such a hike. Even more wow!
This was very cool! I’ve been to Black Canyon a few times on motorcycle trips to Colorado. Never did any hiking tho. This makes me want to go back and try this trail!
wow I'm really impressed that was more than a hike !!! Great video!! I really enjoyed it outstanding !
I very much enjoyed your video. Thank you so much for sharing!
Wow what a beautiful hike! I don’t think I could do that one with my lungs, I would definitely have to prepare for it first. Great video guys!
Great video, great views. On my bucket list

Excellent adventure!
Outstanding video. Great job!
My daughter takes me on hikes at Yosemite and I really enjoy them. Love your videos. Be safe
Like those Ray Bans I wont those. Gunnison is pretty awesome been there a few times.
My favorite place in Colorado, and my favortie video of yours so far. Hats off to you for doing it and filming it.
This was one of my favorite episodes I loved it..💕
One of your best. Thanks. Did the NPS tell you to wear gloves as they would have helped on the chain and as you scrambled up.
Beautiful!
That’s a beast of a hike, that’s some awesome elevation loss and gain! Those kind of hikes are always worth it at the end👍🏼😁
"Airlift", That is my way of thinking. Great video and thanks for bringing me along. I honestly dought I could do it.
Awesome hike
Those views!!! This just moved to the top of my bucket list! I’ve actually been to the park when we lived near grand junction but we just did the brief trail near the visitors center (I was with family and no one wanted to do anything else. It’s even more beautiful down in it!!!
I've kayaked and camped down there
Lots of strenuous portages and lots of poison ivy
Stunning! Will put this on my list.
Thank you...

A beautiful park. We really enjoyed it. Treacherous hike, but impressed with you two. Travel and hike safe.
great video. would love to take that trail
I've done that hike loved it
Great video! We have added it to our list probably won’t make the hike! My wife loves your hat Nd wants to know where you got it 😅
