Growing up we had Jeep Wrangler with manual transmissions and they never had a center console so we'd build one out of pallet and scrap wood. Remember moving it in the new Jeep and it fitting which felt like a win. Awesome build and showing how to and what you learned. Great video🥰
Looks great. Good job! I would warn you to be very careful about storing anything in the same compartment with your carry piece that could get into the trigger guard. You might consider getting one of those kydex trigger covers that can be secured with a short lanyard. Of course, a lot depends on what sort of objects you store alongside the gun, but as clutter accumulates, the danger increases of something getting into the trigger guard. Please check those trigger covers. Personally, I would consider ditching the magnet and just attaching a kydex holster inside the compartment. Confession: I stash my gun in the storage bin of my console, under a bandanna. But it's in a holster. I just remove the entire holster and stash it in the bin: the gun never leaves the holster.
This thing is cool. My Astro van has cup holders already, but they're not very deep, so you have to hang onto anything sitting on them anyway. I should figure something out similar to the ones you used to fix that. In my van I usually have to put my feet up on the seat and crawl over it to get to the back because the stock console thing is too big to squeeze my legs between. I'm loving this build though.
Hey thanks! Yeah im not sure why they would make shallow cup holders in a vehicle. Yeah im sure you can figure something out is the console removable? Thats a bit annoying. Are you going to make that thing 4x4? Good to hear!
@@4WheelKid It's not removeable as far as I can tell. I think it's screwed to the engine cover. I do want to do the 4x4 transfer case mod. I can get a used one out of an S10 and buy a manual 4x4 lever kit. I was thinking about doing an engine swap, but that'd be further in the future.
So neat to you were able to custom build the console. Only a wooded handmade would've suited a conversion van. I'd put a lock or even better a false bottom to hide the gun..... I would be interested in a video, why and how you decided to carry a gun?
thanks! yeah will set the tone for the rest of the interior that i'm building yeah its mostly just a spot to keep it while i'm in the van. i'm making a secret compartment under the bed that uses an nfc lock then possibly a small safe in there that is bolted to the steel bed frame that is welded into the van body
As you plan your build, I recommend checking out two other RUclipsrs who have a similar van with very different build outs: Forestry Forest and Primal Outdoors. Both are full time so your needs might be substantially different; however, they might have ideas you can use. Enjoy the process as I know my first van was a lot of fun to build out
For sure ill check them out. Maybe I can get some good ideas. I actually deleted the 2 largest windows. And have most of the van raptor lined. Working on a sweet bed design right now. Cant wait to get some of my recent video out. Yeah building is most of the fun haha
Great vid man! I have been following the build on ig and that came out great!! If you can ,let us know how the magnetic gun mount works out if you get a chance to drive on rough roads. I want one for my truck but i dont wanna buy one if they are not good. Cant wait to see the rest of the build 🤙🏻
@@4WheelKid nah, just smooth. Looks like yours up top, same stupid bottomless cupholder ashtray slide thing, but the face of doghouse is smooth, no indentations grooves or pegs.
Yeah it sucks without cup holders, check the fuse probably blown, i work at a bmw dealer and people always somehow blow the power outlet fuses, no idea what they are sticking in there but the manage to blow the fuses all the time
That's awsome, I have no carpentry skills either..lol..u could have used the counter sink bit on the plastic piece on the back.would mabe help with no marks on the plastic
thanks! only one way to get carpentry skills though. thought about that but decided not to because the material was so thin. it worked out perfectly when I used some hot glue, it stopped it from wobbling, now there is 0 movement even without the lock

nice! haha always a good feeling when you build something and it fits/works great. thank you!
Thanks for the great ideas!
no problem! was a lot of fun to make
Nice work! I've got a '92 E350 with the exact same console - this has given me some great ideas for how to improve it - thanks!
Thank you! Nice, glad you were able to get some ideas from this! Have fun 🤩
Great video! Miss the Tdub vids. Have a great day!
Thanks! I miss making them, im going to work on one tonight
Awesome Job Wes, I’d love to build a camper van
thanks! it's super fun but takes a lot of time
Great job. Both in construction and documentation. I need to build one for my 96 e150 and this was very helpful.
thanks! glad it was helpful. it was a fun project. best of luck!
Great job. I wish I had seen this earlier. I may just go and do what you did with my 94 Club Wagon.
thanks so much! it was really fun to make and didn't cost that much all said and done

Good thing to consider for sure, my poor transmission will be toast if that happens haha. Yeah leaving in holster is a good way to do it
Nice CAD design there! (C)ardboard (A)ided (D)esign haha!
haha that's perfect!

Awesome!
thanks!
Now everyone knows you sometimes store your Beretta in the centre Console
just mostly for when i'm in the van though
Better than a sign that says gun free van.

thanks so much!! yeah i'm super happy with how it turned out. Ill have to try it out and report back. much more to come!
I have a 96 club wagon and underneath the radio on mine pulls out and there's ash tray and a cup holder was wondering if yours was like this to
yeah mine has that too, I show it in the video
Whaaaa???? My 96 dont have no slidey groove spot, i got nothin to work with. Maybe mines different with the 7.3 in it?
Hmm strange, does it have the pegs instead that was a different design
@@4WheelKid nah, just smooth. Looks like yours up top, same stupid bottomless cupholder ashtray slide thing, but the face of doghouse is smooth, no indentations grooves or pegs.
Lmao mine has no cup holders either hate it lol and my charger / cigarette lighter port doesn’t work any ideas how to fix it ?

Can you make and ship me an identical one?
I wish I could but I don't have enough time unfortunately
Fiberglass brother
always an option
