- Time for a sweeping update of all the projects in the garage at Wingnut Manor:
The Porsche 914/6 IMSA is finished.
The Porsche 928 Euro starts!
The Cannonball Ambulance gets ready for a movie
And a new addition, a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo. Yes, a water-cooled Porsche has entered the building. Shocking!

All hail the algorithm
Haaaa! Nailed it! Plus JF is cool that’s why!
I can hear a 928 starting a half mile away and get chills. Such a distinctive sound.
John, I love the content. I worked for Porsche service departments as an advisor starting in the early 90’s and I was bathed in all the cool stuff of the era and had a lot of customers that really DROVE their cars. Please keep a few things in mind. The 928s grew wings when the power numbers went up because they acted strange at higher speeds. It’s a beautiful shaped car and I admire your vision for it, but don’t be foolish. Aero events at enjoyable speeds are usually dramatic.
As a body tech in the early 80's I worked on quite a few 928's. I still have a special body clamp I made to pull the rear frame rails. Had one hit (I assume) an electrical pole dead center so hard it broke the harmonic balancer...I had to replace the leather wrapped dash because neither of the front seat occupants wore their seat belts as evidenced by the two large outward "bumps" in the windshield...every switch and knob on the dash had the same electrical connector, just wired differently...you had to be extremely careful not to mix them up...thanks for the trip down Memory Lane, John. Not a Porsche fan but I do remember a lot about the ones that came through our shop.
2.07 am Brisbane Australia. Can't sleep. Now I really can't sleep
There’s something about red lights and a siren that makes you feel important. Well done.
Had to stop and get my note pad and pen! This is awesome! Reminds me of the Tenacious D song about Dio. ‘ you will tell us your secrets that you have learned… and then your sauce will mix with ours, and we will be come a Mojo baby!! “ Seriously though I’m glad this is a video so I can come back. Love ya JF! And Matt too! Great camera work!
Any Tenacious D reference gets love from us!
Hey John. It was great meeting you on Saturday. Have a great day buddy.
John is looking slim and fit
u scared the crap out of all headphone users too 🙉🙉
Anyone who cares enough about the 928 is a great guy in my books John, have always loved these cars, I've owned 3 still own 1 today, everytime I get into it & drive it makes me feel special, it's such a brilliant car, really appreciate seeing you put it back on the road, especially on U Tube, Rj in Oz
God I love those early 928s, I remember seeing the GTS's running around when I was a young kid in the 90s. I think you need some different wheels for sure.
Yes! Love these. Now that we are older and can somewhat afford a sorted one, we are all fighting over them now! We all want one! Dang it!
You have summed it all up quite succinctly.......my inner eight year old.
I've always loved the 928 cars. They were ahead of their time but never really caught on. Folks always wanted the classic 911.
Way to go LMC Truck very impressive to handle it right. More companies need to follow your example.
We agree!
I will watch every single video you post, cover to cover until I die
Sharkwerks has a coolant pipe upgrade kit for the 997.
Bought it and it will be going on in the next update video.
Also, while you have the engine out you may want to have the cams pinned, they can start to spin and cause problems. Just did it on mine at 77k
Hello. I just found you last night when I just randomly searched my last name on YT. The very rare time I stumble upon another Ficarra.
Love the shirt. Do you have a merch store?
Hey John!!! I met you at Rolex Reunion this past weekend. Was good to see you in the flesh. Thanks for the stickers!!! See you at RennSport
John's got an Element!!!
Mechanic Matt’s got an element!
Arguably one of the most underrated vehicles of its kind.
Man that ambulance is so cool. Every single time it's on I drool.. that hitch video is gonna be awesome. And glad lmc took care of you! They did the same with a gas tank we ordered.
I watched this with headset on, and wow that siren blows. Love the 928 sound too
Congratulations John! Your work on the Ficcarambulance turned out great! Especially the 2-toned livery of traditional huite and Rustoleum (*this can be) Red!
The 928 is the coolest...I had an early manual car (1978) many years ago and it was a great car.
"Your 150 lb body is just flying forward" hey my 270 lb body feels personally attacked.
Finally a video I want to see in my feed 😊
Hi John! I unsubscribed from your channel bout a year ago cause you went silent. I’m so excited to see you decided to come back to you tube. Looking forward to catching up. Thank for sharing. 👍🏻🫵🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
That's just awesome! (928 first start)!!! Congratulations and thanks so much for sharing that, John!! 👍🏻🥃
Love your channel. Keep it coming. Cant g’et enough.
Did you guys seriously shoot this in a single take? That's pretty impressive.
928 ❤
Please please take this to a full parking garage and just cruise thru and see how many car alarms you can set off. It was a favorite thing to do for me when I had mine.
Congrats on getting the shark running. 928s are super fun cars. I'm reviving a nice 89 S4 5-spd that needed the usual maint and some fixes. Be sure you've replaced all the fuel lines before you go driving too far. And always carry a fire extinguisher. Here's my 1st start vid - ruclips.net/video/iuHO4IV6RlQ/видео.html
LOL @ "150 pound body"
Maybe if you cut my legs off
Great video thanks 👍
Having done both 928 repair and 997 turbo water tube repair I would much rather work on any 997. Take your time and get rid of all plastic coolant pipes and glued on coolant pipes. Also, that wierd oil coolant dingus with the internal bolt on the top of the block needs sealed up with wurth flange sealant orange or other anaerobic sealant like loctite 574.
Sounds great John, even with rubbish audio!
Blood for the algorithm and that
Amazing!!
Have 86 s manual just amazing technology.
Great Way To Start My Week!!!!!!
Great episode as usual.. !!
And then there's an entire herd of non running 928's outside too. You have a lot of work John. We got the '88 924S survivor running again and man does that 2,5L N.A. fourbanger sound amazing. Faster out of the blocks than the 944 turbo we have and still has lots of horsies left under the hood.
About the 928. You are gonna go "pink pig" are ya😉
Current owner burned flywheel doing 997.1 Turbo clutch drops? No. Current owner burned flywheel doing 997.1 Turbo radio-twiddling, dog-and-grocery run, inattentive SF daily driving ? Umm…very possibly.
That SF driving will do it every time. But let’s pass the buck to the previous owner. Because, that guy.
Don't forget 944 turbo with oil cooler
150 lb body? Forget the belts, that would require a time machine
Light Flywheel/Schnel ah revin.
One..? That's not too bad-
What are your thoughts on replacing a dual mass flywheel with a single mass flywheel? Not lightened necessarily, but just insurance?
To get rid of a boot lock it is done using an electric door lock release from an alarm. Just saying they did it a lot in the hot hatch days.
Hi Matt!
Hi Mark!
What kind of “different” transaxle/transmission did you put in?
Didn't know you had a Jensen. What happened to it?
I've always wondered about an LS-X swap for the 928. Just sayin'...
The water cooled engine dropped out of a porsche looks remarkably similar to the "power plant package" you get in a tank. Just sayin'
Horizontally Opposed?? This is not a Fairbanks Morse Opposed Piston Engine. IT IS A BOXER ENGINE PERIOD.
A fair point, but all flat engines can also be called horizontally opposed engines. However if I had said opposed-piston engine that would be a whole different matter.
The 996 replaced the 993 in 1999, not 1996.
Fun 996 facts: The 996 road car debuted in Sept of 1997, four months after a 996 GT1 raced at Le Mans. It sold along side the last of the 993 cars in 1998. That was the only year with the amber lens in the fried eggs headlights. The Turbo debuted in 1999 for the 2000 model year. The first car with a 996 vin was actually a prototype in 1995.
Still have your lambo mercy?
Yeah I still have it
