  • Champion archer Paige Pearce talks about winning the first-ever title in the brand new Women's Known Pro class in ASA at the Hoyt/Easton Pro/Am in Foley, Ala., last month. Paige talks about her push to help get this class created, and its reception by the archery community. It's been mostly positive, she says, but there has been some negativity.

This was a remarkable interview. Paige spoke of her struggles, testing, and willingness to change. Never knew of her release transitions. Thanks to Paige for speaking openly and to you for the interview. Best wishes to you both.

I've talked with Paige on several occasions and have gotten tons of advice from her trying to help me coach my daughter. She's so unselfish when it comes to helping fellow archers and passes on any knowledge that she thinks can help. She genuinely wants younger women to get better and thrives on the competition. She's such an ambassador for women's archery and it will only get better in the ASA due to her shooting and pushing other women to compete. I'm hoping I'll get to see my daughter shoot against her one day.

Paige, you are a gem. Having met you, can confirm how wonderfully real you are. As PJ says, we have all experienced these same release aid issues. Having suffered the worst TP known to man, & saved by a hinge, aside from a few return disastrous attempts to a trigger, have shot a hinge since. Keep on keeping on.

Looking at geometry if bars are level with weight say 4 oz then it's holding 4oz. Lowering bars subtracts weight an raising bars raises weight

really interesting comments about the various releases - Lol so funny about the high side rods... lol cos mine were the same and they ended up there cos I was playing with the grip pressure with various side rods hights and ended up with mine above level too and shot well like that... though nowhere near Paige's scores lol

When can we get a men's pro bowhunter class

I started shooting 3d in early- mid 90’s . There was no “known “and i had fun even though it was difficult. Just got back into it this year and I’ve done both ways . Heres my opinion, and im always right ( just ask my wife) ha!….. i love known and i think it makes more sense. It’s easier and more fun and I feel that it will help grow the sport which has ALWAYS struggled. Compare to other sports….. what other sport do they make you start at higher levels? They dont …. If you want the sport to grow, then make it more enjoyable when getting into it. If people like it and continue to grow in it , they can take it to the next level of unknown….. maybe bare bow….. my prediction is bow companies will promote known strongly and the industry will be much bigger in the next 10 years

Although I'm not against known , per say, I also know it will make unknown distance disappear from archery .
You can't look at a micro example and say it won't hurt the other classes . Look at the age structure in the known pro classes, senior excluded ( because it is an age limited class ). Id be willing to bet unknown archery ( basically an exclusive to the 3D world ) will vanish in 10 years, or be a novelty with a handful of dedicated 3D SHOOTERS .
It's human nature to be lazy and if you can compete for the same money, but eliminate easily half of the diffuculty , humans will gravitate to the easier game.
Sometimes growth isn't, or shouldn't, be the end all, be all goal.
It's progress ( the dirtiest word out there, imho ) and the great unknown shooters will fade away . The most challenging game in archery will dissappear and our grandkids won't even care. Such is life , I guess.
As far as drawing shooters from the world stage is concerned, we have to face the reality that hunting is not looked at favorably in many counties . We do shoot at foam depictions of animals, as this sport was conceived as practice for hunting season . It has grown into much more today, but the overtone is the same.......shooting animals. Mark my words , people will gravitate over for the money and will change the ASA to something else. And as long as it is labeled as progress and money can be made, it WILL change . People will protest the idea of the sport and there will be classes with world type targets on some ranges . It will eventually turn into something all together different than it is now.
I'm sorry to be so negative , but when you have been around a while, you learn the way of things .
I have no dog in this fight , but its a sad day for 3D/hunting when you openly entice anti hunting communities to embed into the organization.
I will leave you with this advice........money isn't everything and growth isn't good unless your growing in the right direction .
As far as women's known pro goes , I think it is nessassary if you have a men's known pro . I have nothing but good to say about Paige as an archer . Great ambassador for the sport !

This is so true right here I experienced this all the time this is exactly why I sent my button really heavy so I know I have to wrap that thumb but still didn't you still struggle with it you'll come back to school drawings thanks that you wrap your thumb really heavy and the shot don't go and you're like what the hell and then you start after fly pressure with your thumb in the middle of the shot
