I tried using an AGM ATV battery for a wisblock node. I got a tiny little solar panel that puts out 14 volts and ran it through a charge controller. Then used a voltage reduction module to drop it from 12v down to 5 and into the wisblock. After about three weeks the battery died because the charge controller and voltage reducer was wasting more power than the panel could keep up with. So I got a pack of NiCad 1.5 v battery cells from Amazon and soldered them into a battery pack that hangs around 4.8 volts. I have been testing this setup being fed by one of the little panels that you like to use for about 2 months now with no issues. I am about to deploy this node to a cliff side that is overlooking my valley and 5000 feet higher. Should get great coverage.
Self heated batteries are what you want. Yes they’re expensive. Yes they work. They of course have temp protection as well. This is another compromise at best. Li time makes good stuff, just not right for this application.

Have purchased quite a few Li-Time batteries in the past year - they are great batteries and wouldn't hesitate getting more as needed!
imagine running wisblock on this, it can survive entire winter without sun
Based on how long it'll run on an 18650, it should run for over a year with this battery!
That seems like a great price for 100 AH rating, thanks for the content.
There is also self heating batteries besides low temperature cutoff
Hey man, I ordered a WisMesh Pocket through your link. I hope it helps you a bit. Great content. 👍
Awesome! Thank you for helping support the channel to keep the content coming!
@@The_Comms_Channel You're very welcome.
Same, ordered 4

That depends on location. It doesn't generally stay below freezing here long enough to need heated batteries.
Is this a packet digipeater or a APRS digipeater?
It'll do both
@@The_Comms_Channel Thanks.
