If you haven't reversed a trailer before, or if you haven't done it in a while, give yourself a chance to practice in a large empty space.
The bigger the trailer the easier it is, so a bit of frustration working with a smaller trailer is perfectly normal.
Here's a few tips to get you on the right path!

When I was taught how to back up a trailer, if you hold the steering wheel at the bottom and steer from the bottom of the steering wheel, you don't have to worry about that whole turning in the opposite direction thing. You can turn in the direction that you want the trailer to go. Give it a try the next time you need to back up a trailer.
Another little truck I use is relying on front end swing..... where the front is swinging is where the trailer will go
Its exactly the same manuvor your method just makes it easier to remember! 😊
That’s exactly the way you want to hold the wheel, or use your palm as I do. Small increments on the wheel.
Doesnt explain how to avoid jacknife
The average person can master reversing a trailer in about 10 seconds with this little life hack. To get the hang of how this works, firstly get your car and trailer lines up - as easy as driving as far as say 5 metres in a straight line and stopping. Now put your dominant hand in the very centre of the BOTTOM of the steering wheel, watch your mirrors and start reversing 'very slowly'. Now while watching the trailer in your mirrors, if the trailer needs to go to the left, simply push your hand (that's at the BOTTOM of the steering wheel) to the left, if the trailer needs to go to the right, push your hand to the right. You'll master it in seconds. Basically, you just push your hand in the direction that you want the trailer to go. It's super easy.
Who'da thunk, :) :) :)
Dang… you made it super simple to understand 😮 thanks!
holy shit.. this is an excellent idea
Doesnt explain how to avoid jacknife
I just got this new position as a driver in this company and I have to back in a trailer everyday at the shop, man it is not really that easy for ppl that doesn't have that much of experience, videos like this one really helps..thanks for posting it...
I lost my shit trying to reverse one of these the first time.
lol. I appreciate a humble person like you.
Me too... I've ended up disconnecting the trailer, turning around with the car, and pull on the trailer again by hand... still better than jack-knifing to my rear bumper.
I just lost it trying to get a new trailer on the drive
Thank you , I need all the help I can get lol
Bro same I fucking suck it’s so embarrassing when I have to back into traffic
Same for me🤣🤣 need to train
Watching my dad back up a trailer is just tragic... I think the biggest issue with his reversing is that he doesn't understand that once the trailer & truck is straight to keep the steering wheel straight. Small corrections are all that's needed.
I can relate , all I have to do sometimes is reverse straight back … yet I’m spinning the steering wheel too much and it all goes pear shape …. Herse why I’m here watching vids how to reverse a trailer 😂
It becomes much harder if there is a**hole outside yelling and try’s to guide u and says let me do it then does sh*t job himself. But after a 50th try says this how u do it.
Sam? Is that you?
😂
Thanks for your help. I had just a few minutes' practice but I am already having the hang of it.
Managed to reverse down a drive and out round a corner, not gracefully, but didn't cause any damage. Figured it was time to check out how to really do it :-D
Thank you for this video best, accurate one I found about reversing a truck with a trailer....
Managed to back a 4x8 uhaul up I95 at 75mph after watching this! Might have been faster but that’s what they put on my court papers. I have trailer hitches on the front and back of all my vehicles now.
Put your hands on the bottom of the steering wheel when backing: that way, when you turn your hands to the left, (steering wheel moves right) the trailer goes left, turn hands right, (steering wheel goes left) trailer goes right.
CharlesFockaert I disagree with this method a lot. As a HGV driver I believe that it is far better to eat your humble pie nice and early and learn how to reverse with hands in the normal place. This is because when it comes to doing it in the real world, you have far more flexibility to look out of windows, mirrors, etc. Obviously this is in my humble opinion, each to there own and all that. However I do not know a single UK HGV instructor that will teach the method you noted .
great sir..
Just bought American Truck Sim and realized i'm a complete scrub at reversing trailers! Let's see if this video helps any. Cheers!
I had a JetSki trailer that you couldn’t see without the ski. So long story short I walked it down the boat ramp to get the ski back. Re hooked it up at the bottom of the ramp.
Thank you. I appreciate this greatly as. I like to learn how to do things myself rather than ask someone else to do it. Video was simple and helpful.
my first today was awesome. soooo much to learn.
I am trying to learn to do it with a Valtra tractor and its driving me nuts! we have to weave it between 5 or 6 cones in and out XD I have 4 days of training and then a test my god wish me luck!
That somebody is "me". Thanks for sharing the video.
easiest way to back a trailer is put your hand on the BOTTOM of the steering wheel and the direction you move your hand is the direction the back of the trailer will go makes it really simple and easy to remember...this has been around for 40 yrs in the States,,,guess we are more advanced than the brits ....
This guy is not a Brit. Lol.
LlamasAreBest He talks funny and the driver is on the wrong side of the car...that would make him a Brit lovin' Aussie....the criminal element of the Brits....or cousin....
Wilbur Finnigan No. He is an Aussie. Huge difference.
Llamasarebest Thats what I said in my last post ! ! ! Pay attention.....
While you do come over as a complete fud, that is a useful tip about putting hand on bottom of steering wheel. Thanks. (By the way, half of the planet drives on the left.)
My first tike backing a trailer was fun, but I think where I had to back the trailer helped me out q bit too.... between a container and a building with like 3 inches on either side...... got the trailer lined up and got it in on the first try..... no assistance needed
I reckon electrical company and we have long trailers transporting machines that we use on everyday use. My question is I haven't driven in a while with a trailer on the back what do you advise me do if I haven't done it in a while and don't want to feel embarrassed about the whole situation backing a trailer in?
1:25 bold of him to assume aliens aren't capable of doing it perfectly first try.
An easy way is to hold your hand on the bottom of the wheel and truck and trailer will match up when u turn
First time hauling a tow dolly. I felt like I was Mr Tow King. Once the reversing of the tow dolly needed to be done, I tried about 50 times before getting out of the truck, MANUALLY disconnecting, and moving the dolly where I wanted it.
1:04 you voiced this over incorrectly, you say turning to the wheel to the right but when you switch to the outside camera the driver is turning the wheel to the left and vice versa. slight editing mistake that can cause huge confusion
What are those bars on the back of that truck called? They look pretty cool!
Lol I'm fk'd then, downloaded auto truck simulator to get some practice in before paying for lessons n it took me 33mins to get the long trailer backed into the bay 😂
i know they sell an adapter bar to install to avid the jackknifing when backing up.do you know what its called ?
I got this job at a construction site, have to reverse a big ass trailer full of tools, at least 3 times a day, I came to watch this video bc I don’t know do it yet, this old coworker of mine doesn’t even know how explain shit right n makes me look bad by saying , “move , let me do it cause u taking too long”. “ I already explained you” Fuckkk haha, my worst fear at the moment is having to do it while some cars are waiting, hate that pressure
Did this help?
@@supercheapautotv im glad to say I got the hang of it now😎
I like this guy. He’s cool
Can you come and reverse my trailer into my driveway, I been trying over 1 hour lol
I just got out and pulled the bloody thing by hand lol
I do a lot better if no one is watching me. The less I care, the better I do.
Same with me while parallel parking lol
@@artymunoz5060 Hell, when my wife and I go to the grocery store she always asks; Why do you insist on parking crooked?" My reply: "I'm a nonconformist, you no LIKEY? YOU drive next time!!!"
Thanks man, i have to take out some junk and this will help :)
Where are you filming this video? The steering wheel is on the opposite side of the vehicles in the United States 😁
Nilda Silva Yeah that's what I noticed too...Now I'm even more confused 🙃
Australia
Really useful, thanks! At least I know it's not just me!!
Thank you
This helps :) Thank you
can you tow in the United Kingdom with just a regular drivers license
Yes, but I think there's an age restriction. I think its 21.
Thanks dad!
thanks man
That somebody is me today lol
They say if u look out ur not a professional use your mirror 😆
Short Trailers are the worst !!! U can reverse a 20 foot or more trailer all day long, a 5 foot trailer, foooget it !!!!!!!!!!!
Jeck noife
aero panels are fought to back.
Because... It's always easier with a bigger one ;)
"The bigger the trailer the easier it is to back it up"
Okay then tell me why I jack knifed a 2 car trailer fully loaded on an incline in a cul de sac, on a mountain neighborhood.
That's technically not calling jackknife a jack life is when the trailer is touching the vehicle I'm a trucker I should know
Do u think he wanted to use the trailer touching the truck as an example
Wtf why do you said the opposite.. literally at 37 seconds ur turing the wheels to the right and guess which way the trailor goes ?? Right!!!
0:45 - HEY! Is this video reversed? That guy is on the wrong side of the vehicle!
Super Cheap Auto is Australian
So where are the tips?
anyone else here for eurotruck? / American truck sim
yes it is great for the deaf
1:48.........? why bother..
Nema ovaj pojma za trailu.
Lil
My brain seriously doesn't comprehend the reverse with a trailer. It seems to go the same direction no matter how I turn. It just does whatever it wants and the wheel is useless. Also turning back and forth trying to get the wheel straight again doesn't work. So confusing. It's like driving and reversing your entire life and then inverting it upside-down under water. It just doesn't register.
Thank you,I need all the help I can get lol
