Hey, thanks for this video. I just built my own naked gopro after paying a stupid amount for one pre-made for me and I'll be damned if I ever order another prebuilt. This was so much easier than I thought it was going to be. Took me less than an hour. One thing for anyone else doing this, don't be afraid of using a hot heatgun on the front panel. Try to stay away as much as you can from LCD and even if it starts showing dark spots, ease on the heat and keep going around the edges and you'll find that it will separate easily. IFlight did an amazing BEC and this is honestly the way to go.
Yes ive seen a few people actually selling pre-made naked gopros and I've always been a little sketched out. The process for making a naked gopro is relatively simple other than getting that front cover off lol. Love the iFlight case and BEC, havent had any issues with it and have another one getting delivered tomorrow!
Great video dude. I used this a couple years ago with a gopro 8 and worked great. However I just turned it on after a couple years and need to repair through gopro quick, also won't connect with ble app. I do not have a front screen. And accidentally threw out all my spare parts. I'm having no success with gopro labs also. Camera turns on and records. I just cannot change any settings. Any recommendations? Should buy spare parts like a rear and front screen? Thank you!
very clear tutorial many thanks .. on your naked hero 6 you have a ND filter mount on it .. please can i have a link for it .. many many thanks in advance
Sick dude! Knocked this one out of the park. Nice and slow to show where all the screws go, and all the intricacies that go into putting it together. Got a sub from me. I'd love to see some flight footage. Specifically, RSGO, and hypersmooth. Great job!
Thanks for the sub! definitely will have some flight footage coming out soon. I am actually working on a video that compares Hypersmooth to RSGO so keep an eye out for that one! 👍
I want to make something like this but I need to rotate the lens and turn it into bullet type camera. Would it be possible? Camera cable allows it? And how did you connect/place on/off and récord buttons to the top? I couldnt see it well.. And how do you get datas? I'll be glad If you can help me out. Dont wanna ruin the camera. I also need to power it with a powerbank. I got 3d printer to make custom case
nice tutorial. I've been looking at all the different stl files and premade cases for naked GoPro 8. I liked the Iflight version but was skeptical of it. you help me confirm which case and bec I'll be using. Thank you
Glad it helped! Before pulling the trigger on the iFlight case/BEC I was also looking at cases that people had made on thingiverse. iFlights definitely caught my eye with the ND holder, front screen capabilities, bottom mount, and included BEC. Highly recommended, Thanks for watching!
Hello, so I have a working Hero 8 but the LCD is cracked and broken. It still records by pressing the button. So for this mod, I don’t need the wireless connection right? Because I lost my wireless connection before my LCD breaks.
you do not need the wireless connection to do this mod. its recommended to have it connected to your phone before disassembling if you want to be able to change settings but not necessary. If you do want to modify settings on the gopro after tearing it down you can always use the goproBLE app. Thanks for watching!
Just finished doing this myself following your video. Took me less than an hour. Needed a T3 and T4 torx and a small phillips head. Also added the gopro labs update so I can change settings with the camera lens in case I have issues with the app. Thanks a lot....
you can always reconnect the rear screen to modify settings afterwards, may take some work though. ALSO you can use an app called "GoProBLEremote" which controls the gopro via bluetooth. hope this helps!
Hi mate thank tou for your video! Just wonder to know if you have any problem with heat... I have the gopro 6 and in the summer I’ve got camera shut down because high temperature... do you think if i let the aluminum plate in it without finishing disassembling it will be too heavy?
I haven't had any problem with it getting so hot to the point of shutting down, which BEC board are you using? Make sure you have the right amount of power going into it otherwise you can fry components!
There are similar STL files on thingiverse for a hero 8, but iFlight unfortunately hasnt released this one to the public :/ I don’t think you can just buy the BEC anyways, the case & BEC are a package. Thanks for watching!
@@TRONCATFPV Yes I am. I did take it off and reconnect power and lcd and it works ok there. Incidentally I had ordered the BetaFPV board and that came the next day. When I put that on there, the lcd blinks and then continues to blink every few seconds but the power buttons dont work there either. So not sure what is going on. Drone wiring looks right, powered off the battery pads and yellow wire going to LED. Not sure where to go from here.
@@TRONCATFPV Ok I did not try that but I did wire it up to a different quad and that worked fine so I knew it was not my camera. So then I ran the following: resource PINIO 1 NONE save and that fixed the issue with the camera.
I followed this video with my hero 8 and when I powered it up after i finished the process, it shows "SD ERROR" and will not let me record. Any idea where I may have went wrong? The gopro still connects and shows picture on my phone & works with the gopro remote. Also I should mention I tried formatting the card in camera and on my computer as well as trying multiple different SD cards. Thank you!!
Hey Tron, Great video. I was able to successfully convert one with your video! I do have a question though, does your naked gopro 8 stop recording after a certain amount of seconds? It happens to me all the time. Like it still stays on but when I land and check the gopro lcd screen, it stopped recording a while back.
I would try a different SD card, Ive had that issue with SD cards that dont have the correct read/write speed for the gopro. If that doesnt help double check the wiring for the naked gopro power, Ive had that come loose and recording stops mid flight. Hope this helps!
Thx for the tutorial. I might do my first one in a couple of weeks and was looking at the iflight bec/case. But a question do al naked gopro cases have about the same dimensions? I got a naked gopro mount included with my cinewhoop. But i dont know if the iflight case will fit. Do you have dimensions of the case? Thx
the hero 6 and 7 have the same dimensions and the 8 has different dimensions. The iFlight case has its own variable mount built in so you would need to find a mount that is compatible with your drone and the iflight case. What kind of cinewhoop do you have? if its a Beta95x v2 or 85x v2 I designed a mount that is 3d printable that you can easily mount to the drone for use with the iflight case. Thanks for watching!
@@TRONCATFPV I ordered the cinelog 25, but it hasnt arrived yet, So I dont know if it's the exact same mount, that would be handy. No thank you for the tutorial ;)

I would try lining up the single top connector and clicking it into place first. This will line up the bottom connectors. It takes some light force to click into place
Thanks so much! Just wonder what hardware you use to connect your mount (on thingiverse) to the beta85x floating mount. Neither the BNF or the iflight kit came with a screw/nut that thin and long!
Those tiny screws came with my beta95x and 85x for the naked gopro mount that they included. if yours didnt come with it, i'm sure you could find replacements at your local hardware store. just look for the thinnest smallest screws you can find haha
@@TRONCATFPV good to know they came with yours.. i'll go check the bottom of the box again. I got a couple TPU mounts and a hero6 case but didn't see any hardware.

It all depends on which board you are using. I have the betafpv BEC board on my naked hero 6 that has an input power of 2-4s (7.4v-16.8v). On my naked hero 8 I use the iFlight BEC which is capable of 2-6s (7.4v-25.2v). If you have a 3D printer, your hesated bed is a good way to soften the adhesive on these before disassembly
Genius!
Are you planning to make hero 11?
You can blow hot air with a hairdryer around the front screen so you can open it easily... It makes that adhesive loose...
yes, on the next hero 8 decasing I do i will definitely be doing this. thanks!
Why did you change the WiFi on GoPro to 2.4 ?
FPV drones use the 5.8ghz video frequency and the gopro wifi uses the same and can interfere with video feed unless its changed to 2.4
