Saying two blisters, one on each foot, is a good thing because it means you're not favoring one foot, is an inspiration to me to always find the positive. I love that part.
Part of training is finding the right shoes so you don't get blisters. Glad the blisters didn't ruin her experience. I'd quit after the first blister...lol :D
I am a student and I get really motivated to study hard after seeing your videos as I want to study and work in Japan. Been watch your video for quiet a while now and I really love them. keep up the good work.
Loved it so much i bought the book! Well it’s a nod to hard work done, love the channel, but especially love Wakayama which is close to my heart after living in Southern Osaka for 6yrs. Been in love with the Kansai area since I was 18yo some 37yrs ago. Im looking forward to part retiring in Wakayama in the next few years, so your journey and others you’ve vlogged have given me the impetus to plan for retirement! Your ebook will help me do that and look forward to visiting the many places you’ve opened my mind too !
@@CurrentlyHannah glad you included Gyojano Falls. Having worked at Kansai Aiport Minamitei onsen and Gyojano became my sanity sanctum for 6 years. 20 mins from KIX brings you into something so archetypally Japanese and that close to the madness below. Koya on the other end is that on steroids, just love that place and managed to visit in August.
Beautiful Video. The interaction on the second day with the other Hiker was so sweet. The Jeep ride looked like loads of fun. The entire walk looked absolutely Stunning.
This is my favorite kind of content. Doing hard things, explaining how it works, showing us the view along the way. Had no idea there was hiking insurance in Japan. Also, for some reason (Nachi can probably take credit) I took my family to Wakayama for our first mainland Japan trip, and I am so glad we did. It is a beautiful prefecture!
It will probably feel amazing to look back at this video in 10 years. Those challenges in life make it memorable, and the beauty is just incredible. By the way, your editing is amazing!
This so much! I'm a climber, and I love that it's a sport that is all about you - It's just you and the wall, and whatever is challenging to you, is a challenge worth feeling proud about beating! Same thing goes for running.
Loved this video! I'm due for another trip to Japan in the next year or two and definitely want my next trip to be more nature focused. This video has me so excited to get out to the big cities!
Looks like a spectacular trip, the scenery in that valley and the ethereal atmosphere amongst those trees on the last day looked absolutely spectacular. Also, 29:39 - Loool.
Great video! I just walked the exact route Kohechi-Nakahechi-Nachi and big props for running that bad boy. Gonna take me another month to get my video uploaded. Oh, and nice Jeep setup as well!
Charming indeed! Great video, great place to visit. One of the best hikes I've ever done. Can't imagine running it though, very steep and slippery sections.. but I guess I lack some experience, currently in a rather flat land to train for such terrain. Looking forward for your next hiking/running video.
My friends and I hiked Kumamoto Kodo a few years ago when we lived in Japan. It was the best decision ever! The trip was so amazing and so many good memories!
GOSH! What a bEEEEAUTifulll video! My hiking legs are itching rn! Very inspiring, great editing. Loved it loved it loved it! Kumano Kodo has been in my bucket list for a while. Thanks to you it's in my top 5 笑笑
Wow - this is absolutely stunning Hannah and Chris - the most beautiful video you have done to date. I hope you have recovered Hannah. Running and videoing in this terrain is incredibly taxing and the toll on your body would have been quite demanding and potentially damaging. It was a real treat to watch. Many thanks for all your hard work and efforts.
It's challenging enough to hike through the mountains of Japan, let alone run them especially with asthma. What an awesome adventure. I was cheering you on the entire way. I had Nachi Taisha on my list, but hadn't considered hiking any of the Kumano Kodo. I have now added this route to my list because expansive vistas, tree houses of fun, red shrooms, and foggy ancient trees.
Three things: 1. When you mentioned previously that you had shot this video, all I could think of was all of those shots you do of you running away from the camera! You are a frikkin rockstar! 2. Chris should have done a behind the scenes video of what he was up to while you ran. 3. This whole video was absolutely stunning. The drone shots of the off-roading were SO good! Everything was just so beautifully shot and edited. Thanks for the journey!
Love the running content! I did a hike at Mount Jinba on a foggy day and had similar vibes, so it's good to see that you appreciated the different look
Just want to show my appreciation for this video!! It must have been difficult to film due to having to go back and forth for the camera and not to mention the things going wrong!! Well done.
These are some amazingly beautiful shots and I can see that you had tons of fun! Well done! Just two things: 1. There is a mistake in the map at the beginning. The most popular route, the Nakahechi is the pink line at the bottom. What you indicated with the arrow is the Omine Okugakemichi. Just to let you know. 2. Please treat your body a little better, it was quite painful to watch. 😭 Tape blisters as soon as they start. If you know you have problems with your ancles and knees, carry braces with you or learn how to tape them. Please be careful, we don't want you falling down a mountain. Otherwise, a great video! Looking forward to more adventures!
I am always curious when you do your B-roll, how much more back and forth does it add to your run? Also what is the filiming gear setup that you carried on your person in your running mode? I assume it is lighter than your normal hiking setup. Love the video as always, keep making the great videos!
Well this one didn’t have much back and forth because I didn’t have a tripod so I was limited to wear I could lean my iPhone against to film myself haha. I only carried an iPhone and GoPro!
You make me want to do this. I went to Kyoto last October and run/hiked Arashiyama to Kinkaku ji Temple(via Sawa Pond). I didnt know the route can extend up to Fushimi Inari(about 42km long total).
The problem was that I had just run the Osaka marathon two weeks before this run and road running can cause knee problems when it’s slightly sloping in one direction for a long time (aka running on the road that slopes to the left the whole time). Chris had the exact same knee pain as me from the marathon! I’ve trail run a lot since this one and never had any problems so I think the marathon was definitely the culprit!
Sooo enjoyed this video! It was like a hero's journey, but more giggly! Went to part of Kimano Kodo last year with my friend and it was mostly road (possibly even same part you've done?) and then we got lost and were chased by bees (or wasps?). At least the non-roady parts were pretty 😅
Please don’t undercut your achievement! I am a hiker and backpacker but I have the worlds worst cardio so any amount of trail running is impressive to me, lol. Plus it’s something that the vast majority of people will never do. Love these videos so much, hope to be able to do some hiking in Japan one day!
Excellent video and excellent achievement. One day i'll follow your steps albeit much slower. I love Kumano hongu taisha and the Otorii been there twice already. Where was that 4WD campsite? That looks hecka fun
Very beautiful and very cool! Will you do something like this again (or have you, in the intervening months?) and if so is there anything you could've improved about your training or are blisters and the occasional ankle roll / knee injury just par for the course for you?
I actually ran my first trail run race a few weeks back so that’ll be a new video in January I think. I fixed all my mistakes in this video and had a great time. Mainly wearing good running socks and not running it two weeks after a road marathon 😂 my knee was totally fine this time!
After living and raising kids in Tokyo the appeal of "Nothing" cannot be underestimated. Rural Saitama and Chichibu Especially (Nariki kaido) are the best places I've ever lived, Niigata Joetsu a little too nothing. You did well with the weather, That said we always carry our Bear bells, with as much riding we do, we've seen too many bears to not take precautions.
Congrats on the run...we'll be back in Japan for 3rd family vacation with plans for Kumano Kodo...Please share the name of the artist/track that starts at 25:07...Thanks and stay well...
this just popped up on my feed and I am so glad. Planning trip in spring and I run trails so this is a must do and stunning from start to finish. Thank you so much for sharing - Did you purchase the gels and electrolytes in Japan, bring with you or were you able to have them shipped to you. Wondering if I need to bring these with me.
I love the running travel guide of a beautiful area of Japan. Just a note. The Hobart Walking Club uses the metric for 100mtr of elevation is equivalent to 1km. So if you did 3000 mtr of elevation the you did 100km. Sort of.....
70km is no easy feat but then you have the aches and pains and add that you were also filming. Thanks for taking us on the adventure! It was such a joy to watch!

Running is already hard enough, filming and running is next level effort.. Kudos!
Definitely adds to the difficulty, especially with the trail running angles.
You two are so enjoyable to watch… your compatibility is undeniable!!! Great vlog!!!!
Such a great video. I loved living vicariously through you in this adventure! Thank you for making content like this.
Thank you so much Ben! Very kind of you to donate!
I am a student and I get really motivated to study hard after seeing your videos as I want to study and work in Japan. Been watch your video for quiet a while now and I really love them. keep up the good work.

Japan never ceases to amaze me
Beautiful Video.
The interaction on the second day with the other Hiker was so sweet.

As a runner and with Japan on my bucket list, I need to do this. ❤ Thanks for sharing 🤗
Parts of the Kumano Kodo are so runnable! Highly recommended!

So happy you feel that way! It’s my favourite kind also 🤩
OMG WHAT A TREAT!!! My three fav things, running, japan, and a hannah video! Let's go!!!
I absolutely love your energy and enthusiasm Hannah ☺️ Congratulations on 70km. The last day in the forest was breathtaking ❤
Thank you so much!! My absolute favourite section!
Seriously amazing! Such a beautiful run!
It will probably feel amazing to look back at this video in 10 years. Those challenges in life make it memorable, and the beauty is just incredible. By the way, your editing is amazing!
Thank you! And you’re probably right, it’s something I’ll be very proud of when I’m older ☺️ also I can only thank Chris for the editing!
I was here a year ago. Missing this experience 😢 I love kumano kodo from end to end. Esp the ending! Yes the waterfall! Worth it!
Welcome to Japan. I'm glad you introduced Japanese nature to everyone.Thank you
deserves much more views, Japan's rural areas are such underrated gems
congrats for 70k run! they say comparison is the best snatcher of happiness. so dont mind other people's achievement and be happy for your own 🎉🎉🎉
Hahaha that’s a good point 😄

That off-roading was wicked!
Totally unexpected! 😁
Looks like a spectacular trip, the scenery in that valley and the ethereal atmosphere amongst those trees on the last day looked absolutely spectacular. Also, 29:39 - Loool.
Most annoying 2kms of my life 😂
Me, a Kumano Kodo lover: Oh no way, a new video! Aw hell yeah she's hike- wait WHAT
The fog between the trees was mesmerizing! Awesome adventure.
Amazing job Hannah! 70km on rugged terrain with varying elevation is not an easy task. Especially filming the whole darn thing! You're awesome!
That looked like an amazing trail. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Hannah. I’ve long wanted to do an ancient pilgrimage trail and recently fallen for Japan. I now have a route to aim for.
I enjoyed watching this!!
This is so amazing. You are amazing Hannah!
Great video! I just walked the exact route Kohechi-Nakahechi-Nachi and big props for running that bad boy. Gonna take me another month to get my video uploaded. Oh, and nice Jeep setup as well!

You have such a fantastic attitude Hannah, nothing gets you down. Well done!

Oh I’d highly recommend hiking some of it! So glad you liked the video and caught the red mushrooms too! How mythical were they! Haha

Amazing video and amazing achievement especially after all the 'problem' immediately at the beginning! I am inspired! :D
16:00
The "pew-pew" sound is the call of a woodpecker called the green woodpecker.
Oooooh! I’ve always wondered!
Ah what an adventure! So ready to try road tripping instead of train hopping and getting to those out of the way places!
Wool or polyester socks.
Cotton absorbs and retain fluid which causes blisters.
Use cotton over wool/poly.
Can’t wait to watch this!!! I love your running videos!
I'm glad you do! This was a fun one!
Amazing video! Congrats on the run. I hope I can do this kind of stuff some day :)
trail running next in my list! thanks Hannah!😁
Just want to show my appreciation for this video!! It must have been difficult to film due to having to go back and forth for the camera and not to mention the things going wrong!! Well done.
I did the nakahechi route in january! So good to see the kumano kodo again
wow, that was amazing! thank you for bringing us all along to experience it with you. I'm sure i'll roll my ankle shortly in solidarity for yours
😂
Thank you so much for your posting☺⛰👟

Absolutely amazing adventure!
What an amazing adventure. I really want to go back to that region, after visiting Koyasan, Wakayama in winter.

Also, this is totally unrelated but you're so beautiful. You've always been.

Hannah + running = joy
Omg that is such an accomplishment! I can't do that, don't sell yourself shot, you were amazing!
Knee and ankle brace is a must if you ask me! Trail looks amazing!

@CurrentlyHannah 2 weeks prior... You are a machine girl! But really be careful up there you two!
Epic effort !!!!
That was an amazing effort.
I live in Mie, Japan.
If you come to mie, japan,
you should go to Ise Shrine!
Ise Shrine is the highest rank shrine in japan.
You are so great, running a trail in a beautiful land like heaven. I must say you are a strong iron lung, you can do it.
Sooo enjoyed this video! It was like a hero's journey, but more giggly!

I'm glad you liked it! It's something I'm proud of for sure 😊
The off-roading you did was in a Toyota Megacruiser, an extremely rare and capable vehicle. There were two of them actually.
Oooh is that what it was! I thought it was a hummer’
行きたくても行けない所に私を連れて行ってくれて、ありがとう🎉私はあなたのチャンネルが大好きですよ。
Excellent video and excellent achievement. One day i'll follow your steps albeit much slower. I love Kumano hongu taisha and the Otorii been there twice already. Where was that 4WD campsite? That looks hecka fun

Wow! That made for some exhilarating watching! Do you think dancing has given you a higher pain threshold?
I think dancing definitely taught me that I can push further than I think? It’s a different kind of pain but the effort can feel similar haha
Congrats on the run...we'll be back in Japan for 3rd family vacation with plans for Kumano Kodo...Please share the name of the artist/track that starts at 25:07...Thanks and stay well...

This is awesome and I'm surprised you didn't run into a mythical pokemon out there!
so crazy i like this video
you can add more kilometers by going back to get the camera multiple times in your adventure.
Are there any bears in the mountains?
How do you train for trail running when living in such a dense urban place like tokyo?
Take a train out of Tokyo to go for a run in the mountains hahah. Hence why I didn’t train that much for this run, besides running in the city!
Be careful of bears... Also, it's cold even during the day at this time of year, so be sure to take precautions against the cold.
がんばりましたね😄
wow❤ how canci manage to go there and do that 😍
the iconic blue running joggers make another appearance. nice edit.
Hahaha this might be their last appearance though 🥲 the treads were almost completely gone after this trip haha
the random jeep adventure popping up like an unskippable side quest lmao it looks so much fun !
Hahah yeah I really needed to start the day running early but I just couldn’t get past the feeling that I will never get this chance again!
2:23 u call that blister? isnt that corn? Wats the difference btwn blister and corn?
You wild! Id be too afraid of Japanese bears 😅
Are cross-country/mountain bikes allowed on those trails?
70km is no easy feat but then you have the aches and pains and add that you were also filming. Thanks for taking us on the adventure! It was such a joy to watch!
I am a subscritor and I liked it too!😂😂😂 Thanks a lot the video was amazing! Bye
Finally!
Running, shooting, talking.... How did you do it ? 😵😵💫🫨
I love it. But at 64 I think I'll walk.😊
u shall go to taiwan to hike next stop
that is very diffcult

are you using gimble in this video, there is no camera shake while you ware running.
Just a GoPro!
