So far, Swift Wind's wing to me, design wise, are a let down. I say this because, I think his wings would look more majestic had they been designed with transparent looking CGI to make the rainbow colors look like never ending waves of color and energy. It'd really would've made his wing colors pop and standout more plus more expensive, so you know the inclusion of Swift Wind would any episode feel more epic, since he would cost extra to animate.
Good reaction! The casual representation is 1 of my favorite aspects of this show too. On a related note, 5:05 is 1 of my favorite S1 moments, 1st for Netossa ranting at Bo & then for Spinnerella comforting Netossa. 1 more thing of note: As much as I like the "gay agenda" joke, I'm surprised more reactors aren't reminded of the Nostalgia Critic's "TASTE THE RAINBOW" joke: ruclips.net/video/KSoCld6kVKE/видео.html

Even though they are technically the bad guys, Catra, Scorpia and Entrapta are so much fun together and their dynamic is one of the most interesting in the show
I really love how they work as foils for tbe best friend squad in unexpected ways. Might be mild spoilers for character dynamics but Glimmer and Catra have major parallels as do Scorpia and Adora where you would expect that to be reversed.
@Books and Tv Geek Scorpia is very much Adora before she escaped.. She's just doing as she was raised to do and believes the Hoard is the best option for her. both of them were seen as model soldiers given positions of power for the obedience. Honestly kinda makes you wonder why Scorpia never knew Adora or Catra before hand (although the easy answer is Shadow Weaver kept groups isolated to avoid the less obedient ones from banding together)
@@richardsuplee8137 exactly, also according to Noelle, Adora apparently when she was a kid and met little Catra she emotionally "latched onto" her. Very similar to Scorpia.
@Books and Tv Geek adora catra and scorpia all grew up in the hoard and are the same age roughly. Where was scorpia when catra and adora were kids sneaking around? Probably in a different part of the fight zone and stuff but it speaks to a hint of the different squads being raised apart or that scorpia was kept apart for specific reasons. Not a plot hole but certain the show doesn't go into details on everyday hoard life where it's easy to forget the hoard is a massive army and not just Lonnie kyle and Rogelio

As a fat guy, I unironically love that the princess connected to wind--the lightest and most ethereal of all elements--is fat. I'm used to seeing bigger people in cartoons be associated with hidden reserves of physical strength, so it's just kinda nice to see someone whose body size isn't treated like it needs to be justified by the muscles beneath it. It's not a big thing even in my own mind, but I noticed it and I like.
Shera really seamlessly includes an incredibly representational cast of characters for really every body type, mental health, sexual orientation, and honestly any identity without it seeming forced or added in there as a “token” character. Truly one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in that regard, and it proves that including such traits in character has the effect of connecting with people in ways like you described while also making the story even better in the process! I can’t wait to see even more characters as we go! So glad you enjoyed the show thus far!

I know this is an absolute nightmare for the Rebellion, but I can't help but feel a sense of satisfaction at Hordak naming Catra his new second-in-command
I feel like one of the best ways to get the audience to root for a villain is to show them struggle and fight against greater evils to get where they are. They did it with Zuko, and they did it with Catra.
Frankly I think anyone who has compassion for Catra's situation should feel that satisfaction. She went from favorite abuse target of Shadow Weaver, to defeating Shadow Weaver and now taking her place. While Hordak certainly isn't a nice boss by any stretch of the imagination Catra's experience thusfar is that he's more forgiving then Shadow Weaver.
While I think we can all see the looming downsides/limitations of all this she's effectively demonstrating some of the effectiveness of the whole 'acquire power -> be safe' plan.
None of this is to suggest that Catra's justified in a grand moral sense but she's absolutely achieving her goals of building what she's experiencing as a safer and more secure place within the horde.

Regardless of her behavior and the "side" she's with, she worked so hard all her life and she really deserved her promotion. I can't help but feeling happy por her.

Before watching season 2 I want yall to know that season 2 & 3 was all supposed to be a season 2 but it was split for an unknown reason. That’s why they have 6/7 epsiodes (which is 13 just like other seasons). So season 2 finale won’t really feel like a finale cuz it’s technically just a mid season finale. So I just don’t want yall to be disappointed. But it’s still a great season and S3 finale is INSANE!
Netflix decided to split the season because they wanted to extend the wait, but yes seasons 2-3 are supposed to be ONE arc. Honestly if Netflix wanted to extend the show so bad they should have ordered as many episodes as ATLA.
S2 is the "fun" season.

The best thing about this show is that season one is the “worst” season (if you assume season 2&3 are really one season, which they are) and it’s still great.

This show may not perfect, but it does such an incredible job in terms of having strong and exciting season finales (especially later on!!)
I love the season finales, but I'd also say that the character writing is where this show shines the most

@@Marta-uv4id agree. And the way all the plots are connected. Some shows (even shows I love, like The Owl House), use one episode for each plot. But She-Ra's writting is amazing, and they are able to put all the plots moving together without it feeling rushed
To be honest season 1 is the weakest season after season 2 the show just becomes something great S tier
Yeah the only real criticism I have is that the trope of "non-binary shapshifter" but I love how this show goes into mental health
The whole final battle and all the colors in this episode were absolutely stunning

Korra and Steven Universe really opened a lot of doors for lgbtq representation in animation because before them there really wasn't much, if any of it. I respect the hell out of the creators for fighting to have it in the show bc the networks didn't really want to and it's sad bc it really wasn't that long ago. It was so nice to see she-ra taking that further and being more explicit with it, which is one of the many reasons why it's one of my fav shows ever
Did you pick up on Korra early on? I just ask because I know some people who said they noticed as soon as the two characters met, and I was like, "What? No, you're reaching, there's nothing there." Then the finale hit and obviously proved me wrong, but to this day I'm scratching my head trying to figure what signs they noticed in the first season that I missed.
@@jimballard1186 There were certainly some moments even in the first season, like the racing scene which I loved bc Asami drove her and Korra even though Mako was her bf at the time and it made more sense for her to go with him and the scene where they are in Asami's house and Asami makes a point of entering the pool and swimming over to korra just to get out and look over her shoulder which was very extra of her but they weren't that many, it became really obvious to me in 3x01 when Asami was teaching Korra how to drive, I knew they were going to end up together after that and the moments they had after that in seasons 3 and 4 confirmed it for me. But in season 1 and 2 they were too focused on Mako, both of them really so I didn't see korrasami happening based on the scenes from those 2 seasons even if there was a bit of tension between them. Sorry for the rant btw😅

Right? Obviously none of these shows are perfect but in terms of past and future representation in media for us they're huge milestones. Now I have Raine Whispers who's canonically non binary but back then I only had Chrona who's gender the author never confirmed. Today I have Alex Fierro who's a canonically Genderfluid main character but back then the closest thing I had to that was Ranma 1/2.
There's always room for improvement but we've come really far and I'm happy I got to see it.

Angella and Glimmer's relationship is so sweet. At the start of the show they were two people who clearly cared for and loved each other but didn't know how to properly show it, and now they have a much stronger relationship and understanding of each other.

Bow is THE unproblematic fave! Also, the first princess alliance didn't have a She-Ra, so they couldn't access that increase in power when they cooperate.

Fun Fact: the show started production at 2016, when TRUMP was elected, and the studio told the showrunner "NO romance. Whatsoever. Gay or straight, to make it fair." But... as the seasons passed the fans started getting louder and asking for more than plausible deniability, which gave the showrunner to push for more explicit rep at season 5.
One of the things I enjoy about this episode is that they don't waste time explaining why Frosta shows up despite never actually joining the Princess Alliance and just leaves it to you to understand and put the pieces together. A lot of shows would have somebody ask her and have her look at the camera to explain, but She-Ra trusts its audience to get it.
Ok so few things:
Just a heads up about seasons 2 and 3, they were originally one collective season but Netflix or Dreamworks decided to split it up so they could get more episode out faster. So something to keep in mind.

Catra is a villain, but it’s also complicated. It’s sort of why she’s my fav.
episode 11 had me like "this is a kids show????" and this episode had me like "right.. this is a kids show"

let me suggest you to watch Castlevania if you want some american animated production far less censored, more serious and much better drawn and animated.

I like how in this show it changes the "all characters are straight unless stated otherwise" thing in shows. The creator said that all the characters are LGBT in some way unless stated otherwise i think.

The scene at the Underwater Party Adventure where he and Mermista have Falcon tied up behind the bar, Seahawk and Falcon are coded as ex-partners in both dialogue and body language. They broke up because Seahawk set Falcon's ship on fire (as he is wont to do).

Well, even though they're not, that's the mindset she's kinda in. She feels like she NEEDS to be useful, or what's the point? I mean, the only reason people accepted her in the beginning was because she was she ra.
And she always wonders that if she wasn't she ra, then would she still be with her friends?
i don't think labeling the characters as "villains" or "heroes" is the way to go with this show. the character writing Is really good

@@LettsReact indeed. I will say some parts went deeper than I expected if we are doing a direct avatar parallel. The one thing I thought I’d mention is that season 2 and 3 (I think) were meant to be one season but 3 came out beefier that expected so they needed 2 earlier and had a shorter s3 rather than place them together as one season.

I really liked Glimmer armor design here. Obviously fantastic, but looking practical enough to give her "I mean business" look.
Everything Catra is doing is smart and tactical! While her heart is hurt and sinking into the darkness, her mind is always thinking smart and always thinking ahead and even when she fight she is fighting smart that is how she win against stronger and bigger enemy - she is observing and using her amazing strengths- smartness(using the territory) , her incredibly agility , fastness, flexibility and her opponents weaknesses- like Shadoweavers masks and She-ra's bing bigger making her slower and less agile, not to mention she observes how her opponents think and use it in her advantage! And then Entraptha - for her everything is an opportunity to learn to grow to progress and she is so resourceful and intelligent , that she can hack the whole planet- Which is INCREDIBLE!!!Just the duo Catra-Enthrapta is the most unstoppable duo ever!
Did you notice how when they all touched, the princesses all lit up. BUT did you notice that even BOW lit up?!?! Bow is a Princess!

The real reason for Catra doing so well against She-Ra/Adora is because Catra simply knows how Adora ticks. She knows how Adora’s brain works and knows that Adora would follow her.

I really wish I had this show growing up. I feel like the representation of queer women and diverse body types would've been great for My self Discovery and self love and expectations of myself. Bow's modelling of an actual healthy friendship with Glimmer and Adora would've worked wonders for my emotional regulation and communication skills. And also there's a Big Big lesson a few seasons forward that I could have used much earlier in My life, although I still treasure it at My age
So glad you finished season one and can get into the meat of things in the next!

21:40 literally winning with rainbow power. I laughed so hard when I first saw that scene.
Honestly this is the weakest season finale, and it's still pretty damn solid. The Princesses all showing up and saving the day with the power of rainbows feels a _little_ Deus-Ex-Machina, but at least that power was set up in the previous episodes with the idea that the Princesses' runestones are all interconnected and they're supposed to be working together to access their full power.
And hey, I'm not going to _object_ to "saving the day with the power of the Gay Agenda."
It still though subverted the trope of "the chosen one saves the world." In this case, the world saved the chosen one, thanks to the connection she made with it (the princesses)

If this show is about one thing…. Well I can’t say that because, y’know, spoilers. But if it’s about *two* things it’s perspective. After all from their POV the horde are raised from childhood to think they’re saving the planet. Catra is handling a lifetime of abuse and negative reinforcement in a system that only rewards conquest. Granted, handling it badly but still… So hero and villain might not be the most helpful labels.
