You can really see how technology is developing throughout this series, with the celebs starting to beef online instead of just at the awards being shady haha
SO AS A FORMER HARMONIZER I CAN BRING CONTEXT ON 5SOS VS. FIFTH HARMONY: IT WAS THE FIRST FAN WAR I WAS A PART OF AND MTV FUELED IT. At the 2014 VMAs Fifth Harmony and 5SOS were battling for best new artist and it was a bloodbath, they had both fans vote via text message to the point it broke VMA voting records. Fifth Harmony won that best new artist that year and the 5SOS stans wanted a rematch. MTV knew this and instead of voting via text, they switched it to tweets and hashtags, they even had special blocks where each tweet would double their vote. Literally every Harmonizer and 5SOS fan were in the trenches spamming these tweets until VMA night. Stan Twitter had not known peace until the voting was over. Also both groups encouraged this, I remember both Ally and Camila from Fifth Harmony promised that they would post a rap on instagram if fans reached a certain amount of votes.

As as 5SOS fan(more casual now but much stronger then), I remember some really awful things being said that year, likely on both ends. It was SO bad. Definitely my first experience with that kind of fandom fighting.

I was a big 5sos fan back in the day, me and my friend made twitter accounts only for this voting (I am from Romania and Twitter is to this day not very popular here) but I remember getting blocked a few times because I was tweeting too much, and things were very heated, yes :)))

I literally cannot get enough of these hot mess award show breakdowns! This dude found a niche which has basically turned out to be an endless rabbit hole full of gold!
I just hope he doesn’t make the mistake of doing what so many other creators do when they find a new idea, or a new take on an old idea, and once they get that initial taste of success/popularity, they panic and completely abandon the thing that was the source of their initial success in the first place.

honestly miley did an awesome job hosting this. perfect amount of confidence, corny jokes said in a way that acknowledges how corny they are, and ICONIC outfits.

Completely agree!! Idk, Miley, Taylor, Katy, Nicki, Ariana, ect.....they just ruined the VMAs. Their li'l feuds were just childish and this sort of stuff gets in the way of the music. But the music had started sucking by the time they became popular anyway, so I guess it's not much of a loss, lol.

I was actually at this award show and Kanye's speech was 100% live. Taylor introduced him and walked back to her seat..this venue is super small, so everything walking distance.

I have something to say about the 5sos and 5th harmony votes.
It makes sense
Around that time music groups were a huge thing. And 5sos was being endorsed by none other than one direction themselves. On Twitter the whole of 5sos Fandom available and the whole of fifth harmony Fandom available were voting. We could vote I think as much as we wanted but after a certain amount of similar tweets, Twitter would flag your account due to "spam". So we all made SEVERAL new emails+Twitter accounts in order to get as many votes out there as possible.
We were trying to support the new artists rather than the big mainstream artists that already had a secure standing in the industry. Hence why 5sos and 5H had millions more votes than everyone else.
I think the reason the 5SOS votes are so high is because they were so tightly correlated to 1D, and Directioners got behind the voting too. I remember it was like an organized thing too lol stans have always been super dedicated and wild and in 2015 Directioners were one of those groups.

Fact #1 - The most popular song of this year was “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth!
Fact #2 - The most popular animated movie of this year was “Minions” by Illumination!
I remember watching this and 15 year old me was LIVING!!! The most iconic award show I ever witnessed and I was so glad to be a part of it

As a 5SOS fan who was much more ingrained in the fandom in 2015 than I am now, I do know that 5SOS and Fifth Harmony fans were fighting a lot back then and it got BRUTAL and I mean brutal. From my memory, fifth harmony fans were saying some pretty dark things about 5SOS fans(and possibly vice versa, as well) so that war may have had something to do with the insane numbers. Just deeply petty back and forth stuff. Both fandoms REALLY wanted to win that year.
