    Getting ahead of anyone who is about to "inform" me that the shape of the lockbar is a result of the external stop pin / thumbstud needing a place to be seated......
    It is still uncomfortable. If you have to make an ergonomically unpleasant lockbar to accommodate your external stop pin / thumbstud, maybe you need to redesign / reposition the stop pin / thumbstud. There's no doubt in my mind CRK could have made this work, but in the form it was released in, it has me feeling like it lacks the common sense that was used when the Sebenza was designed.

    The hybrid Umnumzaan/Sebenza already exists, and it's called the Inkosi.

    I hated my Umnumzaan, and was so worried that I waited 2 years to get a new one, as opposed to buying one on the secondary. Well, I can say, there’s really only ONE WAY to deploy and close the knife. ONE WAY for each, and once you get the technique down, it is a HARD flying blade and I love it. It’s SUPER comfortable using, opening, and closing with the proper technique. I promise, I seriously was dissatisfied thinking it was just horrible until I learned to use the 12 o’ clock opening with your thumb and fatty portion of your thumb to push that tab to the side. Please do not be dismayed, it’s truly GREAT!!

      Hey for what you pay, I'm glad you came around to it! The umnumzaan seems to consistently be the most polarizing one... people love it or hate it.

      Yeah like anything else in the knife game, it’s all subjective. I want you to know I respect what you said, and enjoyed your insight. Funny right? I own the Umnumzaan, and still watch videos about it. I enjoy the varying opinions and feedback. While it hasn’t stole my heart like the Tanto Inkosi, it’s perfect in its own right. Great content bud, glad I found your channel.

      @@CA_0341 The world needs more people like you. So many people take things personally. At the end of the day, my opinion barely matters, if at all, regarding what someone else is going to like. I hated the Umnumzaan, but clearly it's a popular knife that continues to sell to this day. That should say all that needs to be said about my opinion! Happy to have you here!

    Chris Reeve did design the Zaan. I believe it was his favorite knife and the one he carried the most. It is intended to be used while wearing gloves. More hard use and that is the reason for the sharper hump. If opening and closing repeatedly using the tip of your thumb, it will be uncomfortable. Otherwise, you’ll get used to it. I use the meat or flat part of my thumb and it’s no problem for me.
    Thumbstud deployment with the Zaan is different than the Sebenza. With the Zaan you push straight up and around the top of the knife. With the Sebenza you rotate in a semicircular motion.
    Between the Zaan and the Sebenza I use their offspring the most - it’s called the Inkosi. I won’t sell any of the three. Enjoy them all.

      The Inkosi is on my list of "knives I'd like to try without buying, except that will probably never happen, so I guess I'm miasing out". Quite curious about it.

      The sharper hump on the lockbar is not the original design. The original ones from 2008,2009 are more flush with the show scale. People complained then that they could not close the knife easily so they made the lock bar stick out more which was a worse design choice the original was just fine.
      I just paid 1000 for the original because it’s the only way to have a Zaan one of the original ones.

    I got my Umnumzaan / Tanto a few weeks ago. It is still not broken in - but has very firm yet smooth action, it's a CRK. I prefer the Tanto blade if for nothing more than esthetics, it's a beautiful blade. I wear XL - XXL gloves and this knife fits me very well. The thumb studs / blade stops aren't the best out there, but I can roll the blade rather easily, only with no pressure on the lock bar. The lock bar has gorilla grip bite. I prefer to flip it bc it works well for me and is simply more fun. I use the flat part of my thumb to release the lock bar and it doesn't bother me. Also my clip has a ramp with a fold in the middle. I have several knives from Hinderer, Giant Mouse ACE, Benchmade and others and the Umnumzaan is my current favorite, but obviously it doesn't work for you.

      I would absolutely recommend it! At the same time, these really do seem to hold their value, so if you ever get it and decide you don't like it, someone is pretty much always standing by ready to pay full retail.

    Needs a long break in period to soften up the lock bar then eventually it breaks into your hand, hand also needs a break in period. Personally I prefer the zaan 👌

    Thank you for saving me $500 bucks on the secondary. Almost bought this last night and someone beat me to it by a minute! I was intrigued by the handle design but will stick to my 31 and Inkosi. Thank you!

    • @thepracticalblade9013
      @thepracticalblade9013  2 года назад +1

      Sure thing! Many things are subjective when it comes to knives, but the Umnumzaan definitely feels like the most distinct CRK and opinions across the board seem to reflect that. The Sebenza is the classing choice and the Inkosi seems to be the one lots of people enjoy more when they finally step away from the Sebenza.

    Cool channel. Just found
    I nearly got a zaan but played my first crk purchase safe with a 31 Seb. Had it a month, brand new and the pivot screw came loose.
    Do you think its an acceptable situation where crk just says, “use loctite, it’s fine?” Feels like crk as a company feels a bit lost at the moment
    Another point, in my experience only a tungsten tip can reliably break glass…so that glass breaker on the zaan, I’m guessing 70% of people can’t break car glass easily with that relatively soft s45 tip

    • @thepracticalblade9013
      @thepracticalblade9013  2 года назад

      The new 31's seem to have that "issue". Mine does it sometimes. That being said, it's hard to justify at this price. CRK knows what their doing. The funny thing about tight tolerances and knives that like to operate under very specific circumstances is that you need to constantly make sure they have those circumstances met.
      On one hand, I say why should I have to use loctite on a $475-575 knife? On the other hand, I say if they're "designed that way".... well... I guess they're operating as intended.
      I still think there are better options out there in terms of bang for your buck. The CRK appeal continues to elude me and I honestly only keep my sebenza atthis point for size comparisons. I think about selling it at least once a week. Lol.

    • @neillevy4087
      @neillevy4087 2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the reply and your thoughts. My Sebenza was born in July 2021. There is no factory Loctite on that screw so even they don’t assemble the knife like they recommend we reassemble the knife.
      That’s similar to a car manufacturer specifying loctite usage in the repair manual but then they don’t use it when they assemble the same part in the factory. It seems absurd to me.
      If this screw came out entirely when i was on a 4 day camping trip and I didn’t have the hex key/Allen wrench on me then tough luck for me with a $500 premium knife.
      What a pity, it was a legendary company with incredible innovation, i hope Tim Reeve can help that company find its soul again

    Ahhhhhhh I don’t disagree with you on any of the points! That being said I’m way more drawn to the zaan than the sebenza for some reason. Also that pocket clip is aftermarket and the original literally was a worse hot spot than the lock bar lmfao!!!!!!
    And that interjection was hilarious (the apology)
    It def has its flaws man… price wise is it worth it…. Probably not lmfao but I still sold my seb and am keeping this one lol!! Great video buddy!
    FYI I’m not the down vote here…. Just want to throw that out there being it’s one of my babies ;) still a thumbs up from me!!! Lmfao

    G'day Cory, what a shame mate !!! The overall design has so much potential to blow the Subenza out of the water IMO; with the blade profile and handle texturing in particular. After those, the first thing I noticed was the prominent lock bar. Maybe comes from complaints about many lock bars being too shallow, but man that's way too far in the opposite direction.
    And those thumb studs, what the hell ? Must admit there aren't my preferred deployment option anyway, but still, if that's the design, make 'em so you want to use 'em.
    Cheers Duke.
    P.S. any idea why is the rear screw is different from the rest ?

    • @thepracticalblade9013
      @thepracticalblade9013  2 года назад +1

      The lockbar feels like it was made that shape to accommodate the "thumbstud" acting as a stop pin not only when the knife is, but also closed. Not worth the trade-off, in my opinion....... especially considering I don't like the thumbstud. Haha.
      Which screw are you referring to? The pocket clip screw? If so, I know it was lent to me with an aftermarket clip. I'll have to take a look when I'm home if you're not referring to that one.LOL.
      Edit: I think I might know what your referring to. The thing at the back that looks like nothing fits in it is the lanyard pin. It is actually just held on by being sandwiched between the scales.

    I have the small sebenza 21, large Inkosi, and 2 Umnumzaan's in droppoint and tanto. The Umnumzaan is just special, the blade, the deep hollow grind, the swedge. I even love the tight action, thumb studs, and the lockbar. Got used to the knife in a few days. No pain or trouble opening or closing the knife. I even prefer the Umnumzaan over my Koenig Arius....
    If you're going to buy your first Chris Reeve, buy a Sebenza.
