Yeah, I have nothing against autotune, but I do have something against people who pretend to sing live with raw vocals when in reality, they're using autotune. I just don't get why they can't be honest about it 🤷🏻
@@Mayo_Jared That's true, because it's so often used even in live music, and I don't have a trained ear for those details, I kind of expect it to be used everywhere that sounds good.. which isn't that fair to the artists that sing raw live

For the ones that sound tuned, I think some of the filters in TikTok (like some of the ones that add just a little echo) add mild tuning.

They all sound great, but one thing I do notice is that everyone tends to copy the singing style of whoever is big at the time, and that means everyone kinda sounds the same
But maybe everyone isn't copy the singing style of whoever is big.
Maybe it's instead the reverse - the people who make it are the ones that sounds like whoever is big, so it's the listeners and not the singers that are making the choice. While artists singing great but sounding differently still exists but aren't blowing up by lots of views.

Now a days I don’t believe a word people are singing, music is dead… it’s all about the highest notes and most runs now. To me, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke and all those old musicians is where it’s at. People forget that music is about feelings and now it’s just I have to tune and edit my vocals so it sounds like a robot and 100% perfect.

Coming from me, a low bass singer, Daniel Hanson never uses any bass plugins. He is a natural low bass, he uses extension techniques like ingressive phonation, and some EQ and compression just enhance that. It's a thing I thought was worth noting, usually only bass singer are able to tell.

I gues its a hard placement to explain unless you can musically relate to trying to sing in this headspace. Because you have to hold so much raw emotion back, for it to sound authentic...
My favorite examples of this in my memory for male singers are xxx tentacions 'save me' and post malones 'i fall apart' for higher examples.
Honestly now i think about it... a lot of men who sing dont get this sound without like... a naggin or 2 of 80%...

Could it be with all the autotunig that has been going on since the mid 2000s that peopke who grew up in 2014 etc have evolved to where their singing might be just as good as autotune because that's all they've heard and trained with?

the girls in the parking garage are referencing an early pentatonix video. one of their last performances was that song and it went slightly off so they did the song again in a parking garage. its not on their channel but you can search for it.

5:33 fun fact, this might have a bit to do with room acoustics. Long story short, certain frequencies sound better in a given room due to the reverb created by echos. Singers with a good relative pitch tend to subconsciously tune themselves to the room. This is why sometimes singing in the shower sounds amazing, because the small reflective dimensions make it easy for your ears adjust your voice to the stronger frequencies, which results in a strong sounding voice

Some of them extract audios from the videos and put it back with altered vocals. They still sing well but how can one be sure what's what anymore. Some things are obviously lyp synced and others are less evident but to me the whole Internet singing is different.
