@steveno7058 so slow in fact that the bottle will be finished b4 it breaks. Dry cork on the other hand has and will break sooner the juice is finished. Just my experience.
@@mikelester816 Good question. I'm over the $100+ bottle pricing on almost everything. Pricing has become ridiculous. It's not fun when whiskey is this expensive. It leads to more disappointment than anything.
Yes Jason you are spot on flopping the bottle. I usually give it a little shake as well. Let a bottle sit and you'll see the FAEs will settle its a white cloudiness. Not all bourbons have this effect.
I always do it too. Mainly to wet the cork in my crazy belief that it will wick and help the pop after it’s been sitting. Sometimes I give them a good shake.
I really enjoy your channel. I appreciate your honesty in your evaluation s of the products you sample. For me I would see this on the shelf and think " oooh this gotta be good! Look at the price and wow (a little giddy.. ) double double even! " and then I watch your review and go "whew! What a sucker I would have been falling for marketing hype if I bought it" Thanks for being real and honest. Cheers!
I also flip my bottles before I pour them into a glass. It feels fine when I’m at home, but it feels very strange when I’m at someone else’s house and still do it 😂
Woodford Reserve is my favorite. Always available. Tastes great. Here in Finland we only have regular and Rye WR. I found Double oaked from our neighbor county Estonia. Wheat and malt i found in Germany. Baccarat is out of my budget. Master's collection was available. I was in my cottage and I missed that. Double double... probably i will never see it with my own eyes😅
I saw a buffalo trace video that recommended turning them upside down to move the oak tannins through out the bottle and they showed a light shining on the bottle to demonstrate.
I've seen this one going ape shit selling on secondary. So glad to watch your review before I made the plunge for an absurd price! Appreciate you brother
I always turn by bottle upside down. It wets the cork if it hasn’t been opened in a while and most importantly, do this experiment, Try it without inverting it and then after inverting it. There is a definite taste improvement.
The Double Oaked is so good, and already expensive enough, that I won't even look for the Double Double. I have no interest in finding the point of diminishing returns.
Woodford double is great, I recently tried Bondstone Triple Oaked and that's very good but almost too much oak sweetness, almost oak syrup. I really can't see regularly drinking anything more oaked than woodford double or OF1910.
I already have a good friend trying to get a bottle of this new Bourbon expression in the U.S. because I will probably never be able to get it in Canada. I won’t pay up on the secondary market. It’s already fairly pricey but I really like Woodford Reserve! The dark flavours are something I love. My whisky of choice is single malt scotch so I am used to paying too much although it’s getting ridiculous and especially the peated Islay scotch that I adore. For me it’s worth it to pursue and I think given where my friend is in the States he might have good success! I hope so! If not I tried! There’s always another terrific Bourbon to try! Awesome video! Cheers!
It looks like a copita, which is Spanish for little cup. Scottish distillers and blenders used copitas for years until the Glencairn glass came out, and maybe some still do.
Won myself some money gambling so I decided to take some of my winnings and buy a bottle I payed a lot of money but I really wanted to try it so I'm glad I came across your review🙏🏾 my bottle will be at my house Monday
I shake the bottle a couple of times. i think bourbonr did a blind comparing agitated pours vs normal pours and the agitation pours scored higher. so i shake it up like the cars song
As always nice review! When I started a year ago I really enjoyed this pour but now it’s not that great to me. I guess I like things with more proof because of the enhanced flavors. Cheers
Same with me - Woodford double oaked was by far my favorite whiskey, now I’m not sure if I’ll even buy a backup once my bottle is gone. Peerless double oaked blows it out of the water
I would be curious to see a blind taste between Woodford double double and Whiskey Wars double double. I had the Whiskey War for the first time recently and it is a higher proof point than the Woodford and I really enjoyed it.
I've never seen the "double double".. Woodinville had a triple cask, I think Fourgate does too. I know that of the regular Woodford double oak that I have had, the bottles vary, some of them are fantastic, and some of them are terrible. Good review, cheers Jason 🥃
Yea keep it..... distillers got caught up in the fever that companies like barrel craft bourbon helped create with over hyped and over priced bourbon/whiskey. We all get it takes some money and skill to make a profit and sure you need to price appropriately. But it seems some people who have gotten in the game are trying to make this type of spirit into some fancy French liquor so to speak. As always Jason great review, would love to try it but starting to become disinterested in the high price points. There needs to be a massive readjustment in the bourbon game.
Woodford bugs me that most of their stuff is traditionally proofed at 90.4p. I get that’s what they do, but I’d like some more higher proof releases, just a heavier punch of flavor and more depth of profile throughout the pallet. I’d def grab this but not over SRP which is hard to do these days.
I think Drinking Buddy said it best no more $100 bottles that are 100 proof or less. I know there are some great 90 proof bottles but the distilleries need to get their prices under control and we need to push back.
So WR ages it for an additional year and jack the price 2 1/2 X! Come on WR! And yes, I also turn the bottles on newbies to dispell the notorious “neck pour”.
Hard pass for a 375 bottle at 80 no not buying it. And I’m really not a double oak guy I thought the Sagamore DO and the OF 1910 were just ok took a few pours for me to enjoy them. I do like Makers Mark 46 though so maybe the French oak is sweeter? I may try the Penelope architect and see how it is. I have the Penelope 9 year and it is a great pour. Good luck on getting to 100,000. Enjoy!!
The name is confusing. I understand why they named it that so people who love the double oaked would really want it. But before watching the video I was trying to figure out if it went in 3 or 4 oak barrels.
I’m so sick of all these overpriced bottles, I miss how it was a few years ago where you could find an absolute banger for $40-$60. I’ve actually started exploring other spirits recently and have been surprised by a few rums and tequilas that are aged as long as bourbon can be for wayyy less money…. But bourbon though 🤤
All the Woodford’s give me a synthetic, or non-organic aftertaste. Maybe medicinal? Before I got into bourbon more deeply, Woodford neat was what I drank on most Delta flights and I enjoyed it.
Interesting. Should I expect to pick up that taste on whisky aged in warmer climates like Texas and Georgia then? Assuming the sped up aging process causes it?
Nope, won`t be seeking this one out as the price is too high, I`djust go for a 1910 instead & have a proper bottle. Flopping your bottle is weird.....I`m concerned :)))

Yes I turn my bottles upside down before a pour. I do it to moisten the cork.
Doesn’t work. All you are doing is slowly dissolving the cork
@steveno7058 so slow in fact that the bottle will be finished b4 it breaks. Dry cork on the other hand has and will break sooner the juice is finished. Just my experience.
There’s so much value in following your channel, especially when it comes to saving money on things that should be skipped at their price.
$80 for half a bottle is tough.
Is 150 for a full bottle more appealing?
@@mikelester816 Good question. I'm over the $100+ bottle pricing on almost everything. Pricing has become ridiculous. It's not fun when whiskey is this expensive. It leads to more disappointment than anything.
Agreed.
Not worth it
They can keep it.

u can also see the cloudy/oily layer in an empty glass of bourbon thats been sitting a while
I had a double oak store pick for my first woodford bourbon product and was blown away. I loved it
Yes, I turn bottle upside down before a pour. I like soaking my cork! 🙂
Soakin' the cork!
You cork soaker 😂
Idk why they don’t do a Master’s Collection Batch Proof Double Oaked. Would absolutely kill
It’d be $300 😂
I just got one for $65 here in Central Texas and very pleased

I'd say that the Old Forester 1910 would be a great alternative to this bottle. Great review, as always, Jason! Cheers!
Yes old Forester 1910 is a great alternative too.
I also flip my bottles before I pour them into a glass. It feels fine when I’m at home, but it feels very strange when I’m at someone else’s house and still do it 😂

I’m holding out for the Double Double Double Oaked.
I saw a buffalo trace video that recommended turning them upside down to move the oak tannins through out the bottle and they showed a light shining on the bottle to demonstrate.
If anything, flipping the bottle helps keep the cork from drying out
Glad to see you say Passed on this. My sentiment the same with pricing and size and age/proof.
I definitely flip my bottles upside down too!! lol
I usually flip my bottle to wet the cork… I let it go up, upside down to watch a few bubbles come out of the cork
I thought this was a joke when I clicked on this video. I had never heard of double double Oaked. Good video and I learned something new today.
You're not crazy I shake my bottles helps keep the cork wet too 😂
I've seen this one going ape shit selling on secondary. So glad to watch your review before I made the plunge for an absurd price! Appreciate you brother
Going through all the comments, im glad im not alone with the Flip then Sip approach 😂. Who doesn't hate a dry cork?
Please Woodford! Just give us a barrel proof version of your regular double oaked bourbon 🙏
I always turn by bottle upside down. It wets the cork if it hasn’t been opened in a while and most importantly, do this experiment, Try it without inverting it and then after inverting it. There is a definite taste improvement.
Appreciate the review Jason. Doesn’t sound like the value is there. Maybe I’ll pay for a pour somewhere and call it a day

I really like Woodford Double Oak, I guess I'll have to get my hands on this! But you need to get your hands on a bottle of 2XO, wow what a bottle!
I did review one. They are hit and miss depending on the barrel.

I flip the bottle to lube the cork a bit
Skip… what’s the name of the glass you use again ? That’s like the perfect shape.
It looks like a copita, which is Spanish for little cup. Scottish distillers and blenders used copitas for years until the Glencairn glass came out, and maybe some still do.
Pass for me because of the price. $80 for a 375ml is a little much. Regular Double Oak and OF 1910 will do just fine
I would buy it hands down. I just can’t ever find it!
Won myself some money gambling so I decided to take some of my winnings and buy a bottle I payed a lot of money but I really wanted to try it so I'm glad I came across your review🙏🏾 my bottle will be at my house Monday

Flip that bottle baby! Every time!!!

Is this really Double-Doubled Oak? The juice is finished in 4 different barrels? Or it is just Triple Oaked?
Triple oaked technically.
6:55 I turn my bottles upside-down before I open them to wet the cork... That's my story though lol
I would be curious to see a blind taste between Woodford double double and Whiskey Wars double double. I had the Whiskey War for the first time recently and it is a higher proof point than the Woodford and I really enjoyed it.
I flip my bottle to wet the cork a tick. Never once had a cork fail, maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t. Who’s to say
I had a chance to buy at 85 and passed. Appreciate the review
I envy your amazing palette Jason!
Great review as always
Woodford double oaked is $42 here. So they put it in another barrel, kept the proof and quadrupled the cost? Im good.
Stick with the Double Oak store picks. Best thing Woodford does on the regular.
Figured this was a new release. I’ve never heard of this!!
Nice call out, dude. Maybe I'm getting snobby but I can't be bothered to chase stuff under 100pr in little btls for big dollars 🙃
Great review, thanks Jason.
As a friend of mine always says, dark is not a flavor😅 Just poking the bear. I do enjoy your reviews. Cheers!🥃

The drinking game idea (every time you say double oaked). How about taking a drink every time Erik Wait says "Really" 😂
We counted 42 times you said double! Lol!!
Thank goodness this wasn't a drinking game!
Lmao!!! That's crazy.
Shit, he just dared us in the video to do it 💀
Looking forward to this review! 🥃🤘🏼

High West (Whiskey War) has a "Double Double Oaked" .... and it's phenomenal.
High Bank I think you mean.
@@TheMashandDrum you're correct 😅
Jason, Did it dry you out as you continued to take a few sips?
yep
I got a really nice cranberry note on the double double when i tried it at the distillery
Ohh. I can see that. This was a fresh crack so I'll see if I can find that once it opens up a bit
I know you've mentioned what that glassware is, but where can I find them?
I got them on Amazon. Stemmed tulips or copita glasses
Was on the hunt for the price point will have a taste at a bar
I thought this was a distillery release only .I've never seen one in the wild..I'll be searching for one!
Only in KY unfortunately.
Art of spirits double oaked is another good alternative 😉
Never heard of it. Lol
This bottle I think would be amazing at just 100proof. You would get all the sweetness but with more depth
Chronic bottle tipper here.
Surprised you'd never done this one.

Is this gonna be a regular release? So just a new bottle.
It's an annual limited release
I always turn my bottles upside down before I open them and get a pour.
You get bottles faster than any channel. How in Earth are you doing this?!
So WR ages it for an additional year and jack the price 2 1/2 X! Come on WR!
And yes, I also turn the bottles on newbies to dispell the notorious “neck pour”.
How would the double double compare to 1910 or a store pick of Double Oaked ?
Close to 1910 with that extra char.
awesomeness...i would like to get to try the ddo...
but my have to try is the 13th Colony DO
Did you enter the sweepstakes for the 13th Colony 15th Anniversary bottle?

Thanks for saving me the $80
It's good to turn all bottles upside down every once in awhile to keep the cork moist. But yeah, $160 to get 750ml worth is uh..... what
The hardline core range 90.4 proof is kinda played…
Love the products but would appreciate some variety in proof.
The name is confusing. I understand why they named it that so people who love the double oaked would really want it. But before watching the video I was trying to figure out if it went in 3 or 4 oak barrels.
technically its a triple oak. But thats not as fun to say I guess. lol
See that Old Potrero Rye in the background. Honestly bought two a month back and I dare to say I prefer it more than overholdt 10yr
Could you imagine this at cask strength?😀
It will be impossible to find in New England
90.4 proof bourbon for $80 in a 375 ml bottle doesn't get me too excited.
I’ve been seeing is for around 120 on secondary market in Ky. I’ll probably pass
I think for me the smoky flavor is overpowering and just doesn’t grab my taste buds, personal preferences I guess.
No that's a thing. I know many folks who hate any smoke note.
@@TheMashandDrumthis is true so this means I will probably like it.
Did Someone say Double?
The price increase is disappointing and hopefully not a sign of what’s in store for the Double Oaked 📈
I have seen it in every store I went into this week in Texas…just not interested in double oaks! Thanks for the heads up!
Skip on by this release
I don't get Woodford Double Oaked. I find it pretty undrinabke.
Double Double Oaked sounds DOUBLE DOUBLE awful 😂
I'll pass on this one 😉

But bourbon though 🤤
I tried this one last year and was very underwhelmed. I will stick with Woodford DO and save the money.
Wouldn't the double double oak technically be a triple oak?
Yeah. For sure. You could call it that but then the marketing wouldn't be unique I guess. Lol
All the Woodford’s give me a synthetic, or non-organic aftertaste. Maybe medicinal?

That's the heat cycled warehouse effect. I get it too.

The price increase on this is outrageous. Distilleries are getting out of hand. Not worth it
Seems like a giant waste of a whole barrel. Isn’t there a barrel shortage?
Give me a break. PASS. Thanks Jason.
1910 for 50 bucks
Why wouldn’t you just call it Triple Oaked?
Then the marketing isn't as clever. I'm guessing
Nope, won`t be seeking this one out as the price is too high, I`djust go for a 1910 instead & have a proper bottle. Flopping your bottle is weird.....I`m concerned :)))
