Mine is coming tomorrow, I'm excited. I'm glad to hear the display is really good - if i can watch Netflix/movies/tv shows on it i'll be happy!

6:19 upgrading non-mainline kernel is not that easy, especially when you're using proprietary blobs from soc vendor, which probably won't work on newer kernel

I'll have to check this out next time I look for a tablet, since this can be a legitimate laptop and tablet

Could you do more software reviews?

Awesome vid, I love seing how your content improves from video to video!
systemd is awesome and GRUB is not even the same class of software! But maybe I'm missing the irony here! : D Anyhow, systemd is better than init.d! There! :D

Nice tablet, but $899 crap that is expensive!! Thanks so much for the review, with some work though I would consider buying it for sure!!

    Nice video!
I don't know if that SoC will be mainlined - chances are it will remain stuck on 4.14
I can't seem to find a repo containing the kernel 🤔 Would've been interesting to give it a try with something else than JingOS

Eh, I don't know why I was under the impression it was using Mali GPU. Nope, PowerVR and not a peep about it on the specs page 🤣 I don't wonder why but good luck there getting it to mainline 🙂

I'm completely new here, but I have a question: how long did the shipping take?

I think they have already got the display Rotation solved.

    is jingOS open source?
edit: I googled it, and it appears to be licensed under GPL 3.0. Thanks for the video!! Hope to see more soon.

Hardware looks good but the jury is very still out on the software side of things, really hope they can pull off the implementation and polish!

I hear that for a Linux tablet a lot of the firmware is NOT open source, the blobs aren't public and the OS runs off of an Android stack.

can you try plasma mobile on it? it should have enough peformance to run smooth even docked

Can you show the latency of the pen in more detail? Because the video material I have seen so far tells me that the latency is still an issue for artists. On the other hand iPads have pretty much nailed it from my experience trying it out on a friends iPad. I would definitely like to see a Linux tablet being on par with that and the people from JingOS said they would try to improve/fix it but I haven't seen anything yet which makes me believe it's usable already (your material was speed up for example.. so it doesn't tell much).
What I'd like to know is if there's any noticable delay between point of the pen's tip and the cursor drawing (in Krita, Gimp and MyPaint with different kinds of simple brushes)? Another interesting aspect would be how the viewing angle is while drawing but it's not as important as the latency. Because if you draw much and there is just one frame it is behind in rendering, you will notice it and it makes the whole thing worse than any piece of paper.
I really would like to get a Linux tablet for drawing but I have no purpose for it except drawing. So latency being "good" is not detailed enough to me. Because I didn't know how important that aspect could be until I had a 2-in-1 laptop with a pen which most people probably would state as working fine. But it's really not. ^^'

Basically the pen is the same responsiveness as touch. Some apps like Krita and (especially) gimp had a delay, but this same delay also happened when using the touch screen. Xournal worked incredibly well with the pen and I couldn't notice any latency at all (which was great because I used Xournal to do a bunch of school work)

    • @TheJackiMonster
      @TheJackiMonster 2 года назад

@@PizzaLovingNerd Yes, that's similar to my 2-in-1. Xournal++ has pretty low latency because it doesn't apply much interpolation for brushes and such. So it's not as noticeable.
The latency issues become really problematic if you want to draw curves and the polling is either to low or too late. Then the curve gets edges. Krita brings some brushes to post-process this problem but they have additional delay which isn't ideal either.
I assume then they haven't fixed the latency yet. It's probably good enough for taking notes with Xournal but it could still annoy me while drawing. ^^'
I hope they can fix that. It would also be extremely awesome because you could use it to texture paint in Blender. ^^
