    I remember her to be considered pretty mediocre in Germany as a defense minister. Also, she only got the job of EU president because she is German and a woman and our elites wanted to set the precedent. For the same reason Christine Lagarde at the same time got the job of president of the ECB for being a woman and french, even though she has no background in economics.

      Actually, she was a finance minister in France and was prosecuted and found guilty of maladministration. Typically she was then made President of the International Monetary Fund where she pressed for its largest ever loan to Argentina which had been declared bankrupt on NINE previous occasions. She moved to the ECB. Argentina declared itself bankrupt after it got the loan!

    • @Brand131
      @Brand131 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@uingaeoc3905 But she has no degree in something like economics or econometrics. I can see someone with a law degree run the IMF, where you can rely on the expertise of others, but running a central bank you really need to know what you're talking about. For example, markets respond to the messaging of a central bank based on how credible they think the president is. A president needs to have authority so that the markets won't second-guess them in a crisis.
      Also, in Europe (and maybe elsewhere too) there is a belief that someone does not need to know the underlying field of a ministry to run it. Like in my country our minister of finance was a school teacher and has a degree in middle east studies. Having her then run a central bank as though she now has the equivalent of decades of experience that someone like Draghi, Duisenberg or Yellen has is insane.

      I only know her from the perspective of being an American concerned about Russia rolling over its democratic neighbors. Germans seem to like to bicker and end up being silly about nuclear power and immigration. Some seem to have a guilt complex. They are a warlike people and go into the streets over what they don't like. A nuclear fuel reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf (well named) was abandoned after violent thuggery. "In 1986, peaceful protests as well as heavy confrontations between West German police armed with stun grenades, rubber bullets, water cannons, CS gas and CN-gas and demonstrators of which some were armed with slingshots, crowbars and Molotov cocktails took place at multiple occasions at the site of a nuclear reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf." Is this how civilized people arrive at an energy engineering plan? I think the German sphincter tingles at the thought of fighting in a group. But I could be wrong.
