  • During Autism Awareness Month, Fox 5 News reported on the challenges facing so many families today. Autism refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences. Children with autism can be diagnosed as young as 18 months old. But the most obvious signs -- lack of eye contact and verbal communication -- tend to appear between 2 and 3 years old.

So much need is set upon people with autism both individually and as a group. At this rate, it may not be possible to help individuals with disabilities properly. Ownership of the concept of autism has likewise been taken out of our hands. It has been set upon us as a problem which has been made impossible for us to control.
At this point, it's more of a disability for society at large than for any individual.

It shouldn't take the involvement of the Supreme Court to verify the importance of a meaningful education for every child. It was already codified as special education law, and it feels like everyone knows that.

So much wrong with this. I mean this as constructive and educational critisism.
    - Autism Speaks is not an organisation to support or give attention. AS supports ABA (see below), spends tons of money on "cure" (f.e. electroshock therapy)...
    - ABA doesn't help autistic people, let alone make them happier, it learns them to act "normal", suppress stimming, ignore sensory overload... all only to make neurotypical ("normal") people be more comfortable around them.
People need to start realising autistic people aren't retarded and don't need to be fixed, they're just different and live the happiest lives in an environment that accepts their differences, an environments that doesn't judge stimming, doesn't jump to conclusions when one doesn't make eye contact, doesn't force busy and social situations on people who prefer a moderate amount of one-on-one conversations...
Some autistic people are smarter than most "normal" people, they don't need to be "fixed" and definitely don't need to be spoken for.
Check out the RUclips channel "Amythest Schaber" and watch some of the "Ask An Autistic" videos on there, instead of propaganda of an organisation that mostly has non-autistic people working for them and calls themselves "Autism Speaks" while the majority of autistic people disagree with most of what they're saying and doing.

Sometimes people need to be taken to task, and when things go badly wrong, merely being constructive won't cut it.

Did Alex really need both a tracking system and a service dog?
Don't let kids be used to justify people tracking our every move.

Have you ever known a child or adult with severe autism? They take off an usually to water, randomly an without notice many times. You could have weeks where they don’t then one day you don’t have window like an they will escape or you are not holding their hand well an they just run off when outdoors etc

@@CharitysClarity Yes, and now I know it starts with the development of a concept of autism and fidelity to it.
This goes far beyond encounters with individuals and case studies.
The more we condone the manifestation of autism in our world, the more we gird the systems which facilitate us all being treated like we all have it.
The recursive effect of not keeping the cost of autism in check is that we all end up being bound to its strictures, dragged into the world of autism, by some measure or other. It cannot be allowed to consume and bind us.

@@CharitysClarityThe fact that these people are alive and in need and that of their being human, their resultant connection to all those concepts of human decency and dignity, is being used to justify doing all of this.
      They're like living lynchpins.

Why did Christopher's parents have to go so far? Aren't most non-public special education schools reimbursed for their services by their students' home school districts? Maybe Christopher school really was Private, it was Inception, but couldn't act like every parent has to resort to filing a lawsuit just to ensure their children can be educated in the best possible setting.

Stop! You know fully well that the services available to adults with autism could just as easily benefit any other ambulatory developmentally disabled adult, so don't act like they only serve people with autism!
