Thanks for this...it was right on time!! I was just looking up the cost of Van Life yesterday and your number seems to fall in line with most of what I saw. The range was about $1800 to $2200 on average. Actually a lot of the blogs I found did say that van life (RV life...nomad life) was not cheap. For me, van life would not be about low-cost living, but having freedom. Please share more so that folks like me can have a realistic idea of what to expect.
This is so good! Each person who’s in this van life has their own reason and FREEDOM/Adventure/Travel was at the top of mine. Not necessarily “low-cost living.”
I think if you're coming from cities like NYC where I am this is a low cost type of living... Just to live in a studio apartment that's in a gentrified area costs just about the same and that's just the rent... No food or utilities included... But if you're coming from a place that like a small town that you can live off of minimum wage then it's not worth it unless it's adventure or privacy you're seeking
Antoinette, a vanlifer friend of mine has a 'mad money' card. Let me explain.... She puts $500 onto a designated debit card every month. $500 is what she can afford to 'spend' on life's extras. She uses it for attractions, spas, hair, nails, fun, dining out, massages, shopping, coffee, etc. This way she can shop, dine and play without guilt and without having to track every penny. She rarely uses all $500 but if she does run out, she just makes coffee in the van and halts her shopping until the next month. Just something to think about. ♥
I’ve been watching van life people for years! First off I’m happy I came across a black woman because my parents are always like nah black people don’t do that. And second thank you for breaking everything down in this video. I’ve never seen people do this! Great video!
I love how boujee your van life is. I have always wanted to do van life but they don’t make videos about girls getting their nails done, doing their hair, and all the things that would make me feel clean and presentable. I love your style!
The way I see it is the cost of FREEDOM and GROWTH is PRICELESS! I’d rather spend $1800 a month seeing the world and creating memorable experiences than coming home, seeing the same people, places and things. As long as you’re making it work for you sis, that’s all that matters. Love this; thank you so much for sharing, helping and educating us Antoinette ❤️
It’s so real! Mine comes to visit in the rig or I get her a cabin in a park. She is 85 and I LOVE that she has rolled with me when she wants for the last 5 years. FYI my monthly budget is 4500.00 including bills/rig payment/emergency/ reservations & entertainment.
The most important thing to realize about van life is that it is as cheap or as expensive as the van dweller makes it. Aw, thank you for being so open and sharing this. And I gotta say - $300 a month for groceries is pretty good, especially since you're not breaking out the non-food items. I'm a single woman, and my monthly food part of groceries is between $300 and $400. And thank you for explaining how the insurance works. Sounds like you have a great agent!
You're an inspiration. I just need that final push to leap and be on the road with nature, who is waiting for me and the love of my life. Thank you, sharing is always a blessing.

I have zero intentions of starting van life but I love your personality and I do find van life interesting, but its mostly you lol my mom is can also make me feel a type of way about basically anything so I feel you on not telling.
It is either expensive or cheap depending on the goal and the income of the individual. For instance, if one's goal is to safe a significant portion of their income to retire early then it is expenses. In my case, a $1,000 per month is plenty enough, granted that I do not find pleasure in shopping or eating out. I've seen some living comfortably with as little as $600 per month by simply prepping their meals and drastically reducing their unnecessary consumer expenses.

Find places to stay at for free like Walmart and hook your batteries up to alternator to charge your battery when the sun is not out to cut down on some bills..
Your statement about whether it is high or not depends on many things such as lifestyle, priorities and financial cashflows. People will vary and there is no right and wrong answers. What i can say is that so long as you are not going negative in your money reserves and you are still able to save money on an ongoing basis, then live your life as you please. The question is are you happy with your life and financial choices based on your income and situation? You are a smart woman entrepreneur. You are living a life most people can only dream of-a life of freedom from 9 to 5. I 'm glad you track your expenses monthly in an organize fashion. Most people don't have this discipline. You do you and make your time count based on what is important to you. Live well!
Thank you for your honesty... And remember everyone's Van life looks different ...it's different for everyone. Keep going your doing really good !! I will be starting my Van life journey in April , Maybe I'll see you around 💚💚💚
Yayyyyy.... your expenses should be what you want and what you can afford.... everyone has to determine that for themselves... Would love to see how you scale down for February though since you mentioned it! 🌹👑
My monthly cost of living would be cheaper than yours…I don’t drink coffee…But I love to eat..I don’t do my hair and nails…I would drive to a spot and stay for a few nights…that would lower my gas…You are living your best life…I am so envious of you…One day I will be out there too…I’m taking care of my mother and grandmother right now…I can’t go anywhere until they’re gone…I’m in no rush…I will be here for as long as they need me…I love my Mom and grandmother with all my heart…so, I will wait as long as necessary…Safe travels to all…and good luck on your journey
Your energy is definitely the vibe. And also you could try saving on the nails by diy. Poly gel that’s what I do it’s easy and not too much power needed
I do my own nails actually and prior to leaving I decided that I would not bring ALL of my equipment in the van. I am ok spending the money on my nails for the time being until I have more room to have all of my nail things in here. This is not expense I , me, myself, am going to give up.
I mean be mindful of your spending I get that... but at the same time enjoy the experience and indulge yourself a few times a month. Its ok to want to be in a hotel and in a restaurant where things are provided to you. You just started your journey and will figure out things that work or you need to tighten up on in time. Honestly glad to see someone keeping themselves up like they are use too. I have seen some videos where people really look like they live in the wilderness .. they look rough despite having a van snd all essentials. Its not important but its nice to see that you keep up with what matters to you..like coffee 🙌🏾
A friend who is enjoying van life spends around $800 to $1,000 a month between gas & food. Boondocks a lot, my go to a camp group once or twice a month..Enjoy your journey 🚐

Antoinette I can see you’re really treating yourself when it comes to the miscellaneous but your groceries for one person plus the restaurants over the top and your monthly expenses are more than mine and I have a small mortgage and there are three of us adults but honey if you can afford it go for it. Enjoy your life and I look forward to every video that you put out, (I am going to make that seafood boil that you had for your birthday )

I think that you are a very amazing young woman, to travel and enjoy life, to experience freedom that traveling can give. You have a beautiful van. Safe travels, continued blessings!
Thank you for making these videos. Can you do one about what you keep in your pantry? If you want to cut down on your restaurant expenses, your air fryer should allow you to cook a lot of meals without much effort. An instant pot will help you, too.
I always admired people who lived the van life but I never thought it could be something for me because I like the comforts of home too much. Watching your videos has led me to the conclusion that all I have to do is add nail appointments and facials in to my budget and I can actually do it, lol.Seriously though thanks for putting your life on the internet for strangers!

Then the not so nice neighbors from my experience right now. I think you did good, and there is always room to eliminate in Feb like you said. I am planning on Van life in my foreseeable future for more Peaceful and Stress-free living. Can't wait for your next vlog!! Thank you😘
Ayyyy Indiana!!! 🤣🙌🏾 I love that you're a bw from Indy doing vanlife, gives me hope! Thanks for this video, it definitely helped me open my eyes when it comes to expenses.
Very smart to fillup everytime and never let your tank get to 0. Love your site and stay safe, and really enjoyed watching the trip with your Mom!
This video was so helpful!!!! Sending all the love, peace, and light your way!✨☺️
OMG... I just commented less than a week ago about 18K subs and now 20.6K Gurrrrrllllll! You killing em! Yayyyyyyyyyy👑🌹

I just came upon your channel. Thank you! I am so excited to see someone Extra! I am certainly not a minimalist and that’s all I’ve seen on RUclips before coming upon your content. I am looking forward to getting my nails done on the road 😁
Thanks for subbing!
I am so into van life and would love to do it. Thanks for this much needed information!
This is great info. Thanks for sharing. If you are enjoying yourself and can afford it, don’t feel bad about the restaurant numbers. You didn’t mention a car note or health insurance. If your van is paid off then it’s not a monthly expense. Loved seeing you and your mom together. She can really sing. 🌺
Thanks and God Bless. This is mother dearest.
So good that you are tracking your expenses. I need to get on that myself. Thanks for the motivation
You're still getting your feet wet in van life so as you go along you'll get better with your finances. Enjoy and safe travels!
This is literally a good cost not expensive to live in a van and travel the world 🌎.... soooo good... I just subscribe to your channel I can’t wait to see your travel journey ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aloha Ms. Antoinette Yvonne,
Happy Sublime Sunday!
Mahalo for sharing YOU! I love watching your shares of being and journey.
Sending you much love, health, JOY and Prosperity, NOW and always! Mahalo :-)
So happy I found your channel. Your expenses are not high at all. Keep doing your thing. Many blessings
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your videos and for sharing your van life costs! As someone who is also in the research stage of van life, this is so helpful as I figure things out to get started! I so appreciate your positive energy and voice on this incredible journey!! Excited to see your adventures and experience!
Yes-a video for your Feb expenses would be good to see.I'm with you on supporting the local coffee shops.I would try them all if I could.Also-the words of wisdom you shared from your father on your website is so inspiring.
Lol that's so funny... I just knew you had a NY vibe... I'm from the Bronx and I can tell when ppl have been touched with the NY experience 🥰
That's good 👍 that just my rent alone😩
Hey friend hey🙋🏾...i hit the LIKE button before the start of the video bc I know its gonna be GOOD. But the mom shame is real over here too and so hard bc you wanna share but not feel guilted for the choices we make...like dang mama can I be grown...its my money..anywho...great info as usual. Love you my RUclips friend. Just a suggestion for a vid...How you shower( bathing suit edition) in your van🤷🏾.
Wow! You never really know how much you are really spending until you do a breakdown like this. I am like you and like to get my nails done. That is one of my forms of self love. Please do one for February!
Hi ! I stumbled across your channel yesterday and I love your energy, honesty and humor! New Sub☺️
Yes it is what it is. Thank u for being open and honest. This is perfect research, it's real. I'm wanting to do this. It'll help with my self journey in finding myself again. So thank u for being real👍❤
Live well!
Omg your expenses were still lower than my rent in Toronto! Loved this vid please continue the monthly expenses and stay safe ❤️
Thank you for your honesty... And remember everyone's Van life looks different ...it's different for everyone. Keep going your doing really good !! I will be starting my Van life journey in April , Maybe I'll see you around 💚💚💚
I love how these young women still take good care of themselves" hair nails make up".
Yayyyyy.... your expenses should be what you want and what you can afford.... everyone has to determine that for themselves... Would love to see how you scale down for February though since you mentioned it! 🌹👑
I would love to see a monthly van life budget
Good job tracking your expenses so closely!
Thank you for sharing your budget. I love how practical and intentional you are with your content around van life. Keep inspiring! ❤️❤️
Yesss thank you. This put a lot in perspective for me. Van life definitely seems possible.
I have seen some videos where people really look like they live in the wilderness
.. they look rough despite having a van snd all essentials.
I just bought a 2021 Ford transit AWD and can’t wait to hit the road full time Regardless to what it cost. Thanks for sharing your monthly expenses because I’m More determined to do it full-time now. Peace ✌️
Antoinette I really enjoyed this video and you being so honest about your spending just want to say yours is very high I watch Vanlife all the time in fact I’m addicted to watching your channel and so many others I mean it’s just it’s so entertaining and it’s so much fun for me because I wish I was doing van life but I’m past that age now.
Thanks Antoinette, that is helpful and keeping it real. You always speak your truth. Thanks...this entering van life consideration..gives me something to think about. I appreciate you!!
You stay blessed ❤️
Great demo on Air Table. Kinda looks easier more useful than Excel.
thank you for being transparent I am preparing presently to transition into living on the road, this totally helps in having a look at what will be needed, I believe your groceries is right on for a month we must eat
I think your expenses are very practical & reasonable with good flexibility. You are so disciplined👍🏾
I would love a setup like this !! Inspiring I hope one day to be like you
Honestly it’s great to a video because I always assumed van life was cheap living and I guess it’s more of a freedom thing. Thank you!!
I think you’re still doing great on your monthly expenses! I spend nearly $1500 per month just on rent and my water bill alone! Thanks so much for breaking it down for us, it’s really eye-opening.
