BOEING 747-8 flying LOW above me - Boeing 747 NEW GENERATION LANDING (4K)

- Cologne Airport has three runways and usually the heavies land on the longest runway (14L) with a length of 4000m. The crew of the first Boeing 747-8 shown in this video decided to use a shorter runway (24, 2500m) to avoid crosswinds on the long runway. That` s why I was able to record this amazing B747-8F passing quite low above my head while approaching runway 24.
UPS just started replacing the classic MD11`s with more modern Boeing 747-8F on the Cologne routes cause the Md11`s are too loud for the night time operations at CGN.

For me the 747 is by far the most impressive and beautiful wide body ever made. A380 is technically remarkable, but ugly in comparison. It's all the more incredible when you learn about its development, with a huge order from Pan Am (when Pan Am was dominant) to Boeing when there wasn't even a design.
30 years ago a school friend of mine's father was a senior captain flying 747s. Used to have great chats with him about it where he told me all sorts of interesting things, such as how the security for the crews worked back then (pre Sept 11 of course). He told me the Swiss, for example, were very thorough and polite. They once said to him "Captain, just wanted to say we're aware of the knife in your carry bag; it's not an issue, but we wanted you to know". He told me it was quite large and some sort of ornamental gift and enjoyed the fact they wanted him to know they still were aware of it all while being terribly polite.
He also said 747 was really lovely to fly and, despite initial concerns about height of the flight deck above ground, very easy to land. In fact he said it took something very unusual NOT to have a smooth landing.
Always enjoy videos of them. Sad to see them generally vanishing from passenger services, although I was interested to see Lufthansa has said they intend to use 747-8s to take over from A380s as those get withdrawn.
Great video! I love the 747's, best looking airplane ever made. Luckily a lot of ex passenger 747's get a second life in cargo :D

There's really something about a Boeing 747 when it takes off and lands that give me feelings I shouldn't have for an inanimate object. It's not sexual I'll tell you that now.

@@r3ki474 oh yes, I remember that one for sure but the zoom Cargospotter uses it looks that close. Even in another video from Cologne airport it looks like the airport is smack in the middle of the city but it is actually quite a way outside.

These are great! The 747 is my very favorite airplane. I'm a Boeing brat who was moved to Seattle cuz my dad worked for them. I lived under the north flight path of Seattle-Tacoma Airport and used to listen to air traffic control. When I'd hear a "heavy" was going over Safeco Field, I'd run outside to watch it land and it was AWESOME! I moved to the Dayton OH area in April, so no more 747s for me till I go back to Seattle to visit in the Spring. Well, we're the birthplace of aviation and have the USAF Museum too, so that's nice.
The 747-8F is by far my favorite cargo plane though the 747-400F is a close second. Forget the AN-225, the 747 flies way faster and way higher despite having a similar range!

It was smooth, but he also landed abt 2500 feet past the touchdown zone.
(I do the same thing in my simulator all the time tho lol)

Does anyone else find it in poor taste for the pilot to leave flaps and spoilers fully extended...taxiing to gate?
For some reason to me this reflects poor cockpit management.
Poor taste? There are a number of reasons they're left extended and one is they forgot. Kind of a dumbass question when you make it seem like they do it on purpose.
@@suasponte8363 if the professional "forgot" then it's the same as doing it on purpose. It's his/her job to not "forget". Duhh! Is there anything else you want your pilot to "forget"? LoL
