this is an old training concept. We used to do it with either rubber tubes or one's belt. But this guy is beyond weird. who is he, where did he get his Hachi-Dan ?
you have probably recieve other mesages but just in case here is my contribution well althought it is true that his stance is not correct, you must understand that what he want his student to understand is the importance of the hip muscle in the practice of karate, the exercise targeted that region all the time so the may fell how it is like when those muscle are working
This also helps to prevent injuries because it strengthens hip muscles
this is just for inteligent Karateca. Normal person can not understand this tecnique.
