Ben Hodges - Now is Ukraine's Turn to Strike Back, but When, Where, and How Hard will they Strike?

  • GUEST: Lieutenant General (retired) Ben Hodges - retired United States Army officer, policy analyst and expert on NATO, the Transatlantic relationship and international security.
    ----------
Through the winter, Ukrainian and Western officials had warned Russia was preparing to launch a new offensive. Apparently, it was “mustering forces beyond the Urals”, according to General Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s army chief. Rumours circulated, that Russian forces, bolstered by Belarussian divisions, could even try to storm Kyiv once more. Russia had gathered half a million fresh mobilised troops and would “make a push” around the anniversary of the war, suggested the defence minister, Oleksii Reznikov. But it seems that Russia’s offensive began weeks ago, around the meat grinder of Bakhmut, and is already running out of steam - a damp squib. Intercepted communications and the ravings of angered mil bloggers suggest Russia is running out of ideas and ammunition. Now it seems is the turn of Ukraine to strike back. But when, where, and how hard will they hit the Russians?
    ----------
    SPEAKER:
Lieutenant General (Retired) Ben Hodges, the former Commanding General of US Army Europe, is now Senior Advisor to Human Rights First, a non-profit, nonpartisan international human rights organization based in New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles. Prior to joining Human Rights First, he held the Pershing Chair in Strategic Studies at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA). General Hodges serves as NATO Senior Mentor for Logistics, he consults for several companies on Europe, NATO, and the European Union, and he is co-author of the book Future War and the Defence of Europe, published by Oxford University Press.
He retired from the U.S. Army in January 2018 and lives today with his wife in Frankfurt, Germany.

Iran, of course, is a Muslim theocracy and alcohol is strictly banned, but Russian leaders have been, or so I understand, feeding vodka to the people to basically pacify them by stupefying them for more than four centuries by making sure it was cheap and plentiful.

The history regarding the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. At the end of the Soviet Union the then leader Gorbachov made a gentleman agreement with the USA, EU and NATO agreeing that NATO would never expand towards the East - to Russia...(who violated the Minsk agreements? Angela Merkel have said that Minsk was never about peace, but to fool Putin / Russia to buy time so that they could arm Ukraine for a future attack against Russia !). So.. what is the history of this dispute? We must go back to the fall of the Soviet Union after which the Ukraine became an independent Country. The people of the Ukraine organized democratic held elections in which Viktor Yanukovych became President. Observers from the EU found nothing wrong with these elections. The voters voting for Yanukovych wished for their Country to stay neutral and to do trade with both the EU and Russia. But the WEF Globalist controlled EU told Yanukovych to only trade with them and he also had to make the Ukraine a member of NATO, or there would be no deal at all. Yanukovych refused. Biden, the CIA and the EU then did everything to remove Yanukovych from power - in which they succeeded in the year 2014 with help of the Ukrainian Stepan Bandera Nazis (who’s Ukrainian predecessor SS volunteers murdered more than 120.000 Jews in WW2 !!!) - to replace him by a corrupt Ukraine Oligarch by the name of Poroshenko. As soon as Poroshenko was installed is when he asked Obama ruled America and the EU / NATO for "protection" against Russia, and so the US and the EU promised to protect Poroshenko. Now feeling secure Poroshenko started to discriminate the Russian SPEAKING Ukrainians living in the east of Ukraine because they didn't want to become part of the EU or NATO as they were promised to stay neutral. So the Russian speaking Ukraine citizen got randomly bombarded by the Poroshenko regime and his successor Zelensky for 8 years straight - killing more than 14.000 people in the 'process'- to which they finally called Putin for help. Putin meanwhile asked the EU many times to stop their support for this Fascist regime (his pleading efforts were never ever shown in our Western media ! ) and the random killing, but instead they doubled their support for Poroshenko and the current ruler Zelensky. See how this works? Putin doesn't want Ukraine to become a NATO member. What would the USA do if Putin was to place troops and rockets along the south or northern US border.. would the USA say : "O please, go ahead " ? The truth is: WEF / EU Globalists want Putin be removed and replaced by some Russia corrupt traitor doing the wishes of the WEF Globalists. Make no mistake (and we see it clearly now in Canada, Australia and Europe) - the WEF Globalists want to rule the whole world; Communist style with Chinese style "social credit score". The Ukraine people should have decided to stay a neutral Country... works VERY well for Switzerland. If Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine would have formed a neutral zone situated between de EU / NATO and Russia there would never be war again. They should together be able to trade with the EU and with Russia too, and they should be allowed to have their own form of defense (industry). But this is made impossible because of evil people who love to hate, kill and destroy, and because of their love for power over others and their love for money, rather than to live in peace with each other. God said through Jesus to love our neighbor as we love ourselves - meaning everyone. The history and truth regarding this conflict must be told and spread throughout Armed Forces and throughout the world. Because if you believe the Western media - you, as a Soldier - will die for lies.

@@tcb1012 Ukrainian counteroffensive starting soon. They’ll be doing all the hard work, just like they did last year when they took back Their Own land in the north and the south. Really it’s Putin playing Russian roulette. If he’s somehow successful today, he’ll be doing the exact same thing with Georgia, Moldova or some other country 10 years in the future. He’s not gonna stop unless he’s stopped. But if he loses in Ukraine, he’ll likely be out of power, Russian federation could very well collapse into a dozen smaller entities, which would be great news for all the Russian minorities who Putins been drafting into the Russian military to use as cannon fodder. Hes Genociding his own people in this war, yet you cowards think we should bow to and appease this bully….How’d that work with Hitler in 1938….?
Now if Ukraine drives south to Melitopol or Mariupol, Putin isn’t gonna drop a nuclear bomb on any of those cities. It would make conditions insanely harder for him to win back ground in those places….it’s just Not gonna happen.
These sound like the same voices that said Ukraine would collapse in weeks, that said Russian military was among the best in the world….🤔😂🤣🥲
Back here in reality, Russian army is on the verge of collapse. Shell hunger, the tragedy of Vuhledar(which showcases in all its glory Russian offensive tactics complete FAILURE lol), Russian morale is in the toilet, and crucially they have no ability to easily replace All the advanced weapons they’ve used to terrorize civilians and attack Ukraine’s power grid. Just like the Germans in WW2 didn’t give up when their cities were bombed during the day by US planes and at night by the British, it’s made no difference in Ukraine 80 years later.
The war of attrition is nearly over. Combined arms counteroffensive is on the horizon 🇺🇦, lol and while Russian troops will eventually be marched west after their taken prisoner, their clearly(Vuhledar, Bahkmut, Adiivka, Marinka) not in any position to take more ground. They lose 1000 soldiers a day for a couple kilometers at most. If their smart, their saving their reserves for strategic counterattacks against the coming offensive. It’s the best hope they have, as Ukraine will likely strike w 200,000 troops(Army Group=multiple armies) toward Melitopol or Mariupol or maybe both.
You wanna know where Ukraine will strike…? Tap into Russian sources and figure out where the most partisan activity is happening behind the lines…because those same Ukrainian partisans will make it hell on earth for the occupiers when the offensive is in full swing. Where they really have a chance is where partisan resistance is at its highest and fiercest….and if you look on the map and at Russian sources, it’s Melitopol ☄️💥🇺🇦
And lastly, the Russian soldier is adept at just the 1 thing: following orders. They do not think for themselves on the battlefield, their NCO’s are powerless and toothless, making little difference in a fight when the shells start flying. They have no initiative, they will Not become partisans if their units are overwhelmed and fragmented. Russian soldiers simply do as their told, march where their told, and lastly die where their officers order them to ‘attack’ lol. Once the Russian command structure is decapitated(which Ukraine has been soooo good at during this war), once supplies stop coming through and orders stop flowing in, the individual Russian soldier will be nothing more than an armed refugee far from home, and surrounded by enemies. They actually don’t wanna die for Putins ambitions….their gonna surrender en masse after Ukrainian armies cut them off. That’s the sad, horrible truth. Their army is struggling: morale is low, critical ammunition is low. Ukraine has been smart to bleed them in places like Bahkmut, as they sacrifice their offensive power every day for no tangible result. The stage is set!
The collapse of the Russian army in Ukraine will likely herald the collapse of the Russian federation, and totalitarian rule. Democracy may have a chance to rise in the new nations that will be born from old imperial Russias carcass…and That is exactly what those people need. Russia today is a ghost of the USSR. Their vision and lifestyle has not been eradicated(Putin is keeping it alive) but it cannot survive in todays world. People everywhere want freedom, economic opportunity, and prosperity; why Russia is so threatened by a democratic and prosperous Ukraine….because it shows his own people an alternative that’s better than the gulag, the culture of fear, the mass surveillance of the FSB, that their living in today….

The U S., along with inept government leadership and incompetent NATO leaders are fighting a *"PROXY WAR"* with RUSSIA! The U.S. has used a secretive procedure called ‘127e’ to launch at least 23 “proxy wars” across the globe since 2017!
In the current conflict in Ukraine, the U.S. has brought humanity to the brink of a global conflict and we're one miscalculation away from *Nuclear Annilation...* thanks to foolish, "Western leadership" and things can very easily go off the rails!
The Western Propaganda & demonization of Russia and all of this heated rhetoric..doesn't stop with Russia, The U.S.
HAS ALSO PROVOKED *CHINA AS WELL,* ESCALATING tensions WITH BOTH COUNTRIES THAT POSSESS ADVANCED, HYPERSONIC NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY and these provocations, are clearly in preparation for a bigger war! Inane Western leaders, have failed miserably and have opened up a pandora's box!
When Biden said don't worry about nuclear war, what does his administration do..??.. *They purchased 290 MILLION DOLLAR'S* *of ANTI-RADIATION PILLS.* FOR WHO? SURVIVORS OF A "NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST.?.. while tensions escalate. BRILLIANT!!!

THE U.S./NATO ..ARE ON A SUICIDE MISSION!*
Those absurd Sanctions the West imposed on *RUSSIA??*
have had a boomerang effect on the U.S & Europe!
The cold, hard reality is that the Russian Ruble that feckless, Pres. Biden said would disintegrate into RUIN..?? (REMEMBER?)
*NOW is higher than it's been in years!* Russia has the natural resources, energy reserves, gas & oil!
The expansion of The *"BRICS NATIONS"..* their alliance & endeavors, serve as a mortal threat to The U.S. & The West!
The foolish West and U.S. miscalculated and will continue to suffer the economic consequences of their actions!
*REGIME CHANGE IN RUSSIA IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!*
*UKRAINE & THE WEST WILL SUFFER A HUMILIATING DEFEAT!* WHAT IS NEEDED IS A U.S. ADMINISTRATION AND POLICY CHANGE RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA.. *RUSSIA* has Been warning about Ukraine for decades, but the West & their inane leaders wouldn't listen & are hell bent on preserving Western Hegemony!
Russia's origins go far beyond Putin. Russia has a foreign and security blob, just as does the United States, with a set of semi-permanent beliefs about Russian vital interests, which are rooted in national history and culture and are shared by large parts of the population. These include the exclusion of hostile military alliances from Russia’s neighborhood and the protection of the political position and cultural rights of Russian minorities.
Yeltsin protested strongly against the start of NATO expansion in the 1990s and Russia accustomed itself without too much trouble to NATO membership for the former Soviet satellites in Central Europe. But from the very beginning of NATO expansion, in the mid-1990s, Russian officials and commentators-including liberal reformists-warned that an offer of NATO membership to Georgia and Ukraine *"would bring confrontation with the West"* *and an acute danger of war!* These warnings were echoed by Henry Kissinger and other leading American statesmen...
*BUT THE INEPT & AMORAL "WOKE" U.S. GOVERNMENT,* *ALONG WITH A WOKE MILITARY.. (THAT SPONSORED "DRAG* *SHOWS ON MILITARY BASES LIKE LANGLEY??") WOULDN'T* *ENGAGE IN SERIOUS DIPLOMACY* after years of Putin's protestations about NATO expansion... *so he invaded!*
Now, this regional conflict, this *"proxy war,"* could "potentially" lead to a global conflict and just one faux pas, one miscalculation can rapidly escalate to ☢ Global Thermonuclear War! 🙏

The reason why Crimea is so important to Putin, its not about Russia, it is about that Putin has his 1.3 billion dollar Summer Palace just 170 klm from the Kerch Bridge or 370 klms from Sevastopol, a mansion where he has a harbour big enough for his 2 super yachts. Putin clearly promised himself that he would have a whole sea to himself for his super yacht cruises with guests. The US drone was just 200 klms from HIS place and 210 klms from his girl friend’s place. Putin is not giving this up, full stop.

Last year Putin didn’t want a war, he deliberately sent in a small force to show that Russia had every intention of taking action to stop the killing of Russians in East Ukraine. Zelensky was scheduled to meet Putin in Turkey but NATO at the request of US met Zelensky and said no we will give you anything we can fight back. After the Crimea bridge explosion was when Putin finally gave up hope for a peaceful resolution and implementation of the Minsk agreements that had already been signed and went to a full scale war. Ukraine casualties 200,000-250,000 dead, 400,000 wounded, Russia 25,000 to 30,000 dead, 50,000 wounded. Ukraine is running seriously low on artillery ammunition all the MIG 29’s that they had are gone, all of the tanks are gone, air defence systems are destroyed and they are completely reliant on NATO who has no formal military alliance with Ukraine to supply them. If you think that’s nonsense then ask yourself why then is Zelensky begging for weapons and if the Russians are running away and being defeated why are Poland shivering and planning to put 200,000 troops on their and why is the American 101st airborne In Poland, because Ukraine is being annihilated. Meanwhile on the Russian border with Ukraine is 300,000 Russian troops, that have been training constantly since last year, with 1000’s of Tanks, artillery systems everything waiting for the mud in Ukraine to dry in April, May so you are being lied to.

Ben did something I have never heard from any of the "western" retired generals and TV military "experts". He admitted he was wrong about Russian military capabilities; and, that is why I like him so much. Too many, current and former military, seem to be doubling down on Russian magical military capabilities, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, because they built their carriers being wrong about it and now seem desperate to save their legacy (or job). I find that especially terrifying when they are still in the Pentagon or Brussels making life and death decisions for guys in a trench in Ukraine facing russians across a field; let alone, the World for the next decade. Western militaries will look very different in another decade, I hope.

Actually, it is quite rare that people in general admit they were wrong - and here the General admits it, not making a big fuss, just saying it as it is natural to sometimes be mistaken. That is an impressive human being!

      *PLEAZZZE!*
*THIS WAR IS OVER..UKRAINE HAS BEEN REDUCED TO RUBBLE!* *Sadly, BEN HODGES, is a propagandist.. What an absolute shill* *for the U.S. governments propaganda machine!*
*WHO IS THE REAL ENEMY..?.. THE ENEMY IS WITHIN!*
What we're witnessing today is a "Self-righteous, self-entitled," WOKE, U.S. NATION IN DECLINE & *IT'S DAY'S ARE* *NUMBERED!* Nationalism and those myths about how righteous the U.S. is *...cannot* compensate nor hide *how corrupt and* *ruthless the U.S. truly is!* This country is less than 250 years old, but has been morally & Spiritually bankrupt from within..
*for YEARS!* The political, economic, financial and social problems plaguing the West so prevalent, are only the "symptoms" of the moral & spiritual decline of these nation's!
Everyone should've been down on their knees praying! 🙏
      *NEVER BELIEVE THIS LYING GOVERNMENT!*
*REMEMBER THE WITHDRAWAL & DEBACLE IN AFGHANISTAN!* *REMEMBER THE SABOTAGE OF THE NORD STREAM PIPELINE!* *ABSOLUTE, FOOLISH U.S. LEADERSHIP..* Democrats will never allow Ukraine out of this nightmare... which would immediately raise the question of.. *how did we EVER end up in this* *quagmire?

These wishful thinking reports are the ways of coping for westerners lol This is a one sided biased western propaganda. Ukrainians loosing way more men because they are being heavily outgunned - mainly in artillery. And yes technically it is much easier to sit in fortified positions and defend than attack. Russians understand that, there are no "human waves" attacks. The specialized assault units only attack when Russian artillery dismantles the Ukrainian positions. By then there is hardly any Ukrainian soldiers left alive to defend, and the wounded or shocked with concussion simply can't defend properly. This is why this war is so slow and it is simply a methodical grinding. Ukrainian counteroffensive is a very desirable move by Russians, they will simply eliminate more UA troops much faster than smoking them out of their bunkers.
