I don’t know what to tell you, when Casper asked “Can I keep you?” Every 90’s girl swooned.
😂😂
@@marilynbrammer8670 I sure did!!
I missed most of this one so I found it more creepy than swoon worthy but I also had my fair share of crushes that other people would probably raise their eyebrows at or had lines that made me melt while everyone else would be confused so I don’t judge.
Yes!!! ❤❤❤❤
Omg I thought i was weird for it. Ty for the validation 😢
Christina Ricci states that she once showed this movie to her young son, and he became convinced that she was best friends with Casper as a child.
Awwee
@@PinkPopcastI was so mad at her when this movie came out cuz at the time I was a big fan of Devon Sawa and she said that she would never work with him again and I was like he was in like one scene which was the cutest thing in the f****** movie you be nice
@@brandibastian4193 I think it was because Devon actually fell for her and he wanted them to date irl but Christina didn’t, he said something similar about her in an interview he said he regretted kissing her in “Casper” and “Now and Then” (I guess it was harder for him to move on) and that for a good while he didn’t even rewatch those movies
@@brandibastian4193 I still remember Devon Sawa having to deal with that dang doll that is Chucky. Imagine Chucky having to work with or go up against Casper (in ANY of his iterations).
@@COSun25well you can’t stab a ghost, though I think Devon could beat him with the help of his evil idle hand
The moment you realize the father made “The Up And At ‘Em” machine likely bc he was too depressed to get himself ready every morning.
🥺🥺
Ouch, I feel that one in my soul
What makes this really sad is that one of the newspaper articles says that Caspers dad was taken to an asylum, because he kept trying to bring back his dead son. So Casper was there when his dad was taken away and more than likely thats when Casper started to forget about him, because his dad didnt come back
Omg 😞😞
So now that he knows his father is gone he can cross over if he wants, I guess now Kat is his unfinished business
Aww
@@PinkPopcastdon’t watch any of the og cartoons or you’ll really cry.
@@lauracerqueiramachado8979Maybe. I forget why he doesn't pass in the cartoons. But I did think it was unfair that he never passed on. Or that his father didn't comeback but Kat's mom did. And if Kat is his unfinished business then he def should have passed on. But maybe it's a thing where the ghosts have to say they don't have any left or something.
I love how every adult guy thinks the “can I keep you line” is creepy and every girl who saw this at 12 when it premiered (like myself) can mark that moment as when they fell in love for the first time. Devon Sawa… you kept us all.
Hahahaha - fascinating litmus test 😂
I'll admit I never was attracted to Casper/Devon as a child, but I did think it was sweet, if a little off-sounding, in a "he's a kid with a crush he clearly doesn't know how to express," kind of way. 😆
@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose Yea, and honestly, I always thought Casper was much younger, so when he became human for a bit, I was shocked, fell and never recovered 😂
I don't know, I was a very deep thinking child. Was it was the abuse l suffered as a child or in spite of that? I always felt there was something profoundly different that he died as a child and held on to all the hope and not understanding what that even is that comes with it... forever. A preteen ghost who's forgotten most of his life and even his parents, everything happy and optimistic? But is still optimistic! So when he said "can I keep you" it kinda felt like he was saying if everything is fleeting can I just be here with you forever(memories wise, but also not ...) . As I get older I still think that but understand less of what I meant but still mean.?! Though if a grown(alive lol) person said that to me I'd be alarmed.
It's probably also best to remember that something that would be sketchy sounding nowadays sometimes got a pass in the '80s/'90s. If I was writing a romance story in modern times with the ML saying "can I keep you", it'd probably barely get a pass depending on the chemistry of the characters and the contexts of the situation - but it'd still be called out for sounding iffy online.
But back then, the closest there'd be to someone calling out decisions made by a major-motion studio would probably be sending letters to the editor, or being some outspoken organization - the Internet was around, but it's nothing like the Internet currently is now.
Fun Fact: Casper was the very first fully CGI Character to have a lead role in a Motion Picture.😝😝
Awesome!
first time my son cried from a movie was casper.. he was 8.. he became a real boy and the clock dings at 10 pm and i look over bc i hear him heaving trying to catch his breath and hes A MESS i said omg hunny whats wrong he yells "WHY CANT HE JUST STAY WITH HER ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!" and my heart melted and we cried together.. now hes almost 18 and i wish we could go back in time 😭
🥺😭
Damn kind of how I felt like the first time watching it. I was probably around the same age or a little younger. I didn't cry but felt it sucked they could be together. Maybe my emotions weren't developed enough to cry to it then because I have cried to less emotional things in movies/shows since then. Was a movie that made me feel sad though. Like the first Land Before Time or All Dogs go to heaven movie.
@@stevenfriedman2902 land before time still makes me cry its torture lol
I keep wondering how a sequel could be like, they could get more of that substance that made the Lazarus machine work, explore the ghost world more, maybe introduce the concept of reincarnation, it would be nice if they found a way to make the machine work in reverse so Kat could turn herself into a ghost without having to die, the villain could be that huge mean green ghost that was in one of the other movies, he would be angry to see the ghosts being friends with Kat and her dad so he would start messing with them, like making bad things happen to Kat at school, getting Dr. Harvey in trouble at work and trying to get the Ghostly Trio to be mean to them again, so when Casper found out it was that villain who was doing it he would get the machine to work again and come back to life so he could help Kat at school while pretending to be a new student, and Kat would also want to help them the ghosts could have a big fight against the villain and Kat would turn herself into a ghost using the machine so she could help them fight him and it would turn out that Kat was even more powerful as a ghost than the Ghostly Trio
@@lauracerqueiramachado8979 honestly, I can get behind almost every part of that except her becoming a ghost without dying. One of the reasons I can't see that is bc even if it could do that, you know Casper, much less her dad, would let her take that kind of chance. They'd see it as too dangerous for her. Casper would make the argument he can use the machine bc he's already dead. Therefore, nothing to lose. She, however, is just starting her life with everything to lose. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Lol. I LOVE the concept of Casper being in school with her as a real boy! That would be awesome to see. Here's hoping some screenwriters reach out to you after they see this! ❤
Oh my gosh! Devon Sawa was every girls crush with this movie and in Now and Then (also with Christina Ricci). What a trip down memory lane, thanks Popstars.
Omg I didn’t realize he was in that too!
I think Macaulay in My Girl with the glasses was more my childhood crush. Unfortunately, given what happens in that TRAUMATIZING movie.
He was also in “Idle Hands” (a horror movie that is so bad it’s good) and “Final Destination”
oh Devon Sawa in the Little Giants made the 8yo me wanna play football if i was meeting boys like him 😂😍
I had such a crush on both Devon Sawa and Christina Ricci.
_Casper_ and _Now and Then_ were my favorite movies for a while, lol.
God I remember wanting to be Kat SO badly as a kid. She was cool, wore a pretty dress (that miraculously fits her perfectly 😂), and got to dance in the air with a cute boy. Also I never noticed just how many dead parent subplots were in movies until I started going "oh no Rizzo's gonna cry again" seconds into multiple reactions 🥺
😂😂
@@raynacarraway440 and it's not even just Disney!
How the other ghosts treat Casper is made even worse when you remember that they are his uncles 😢😢
🥲
It's one of my favorite things about the movie Casper's Scare School (2006). (Anyone else remember that film? It apparently went on to spawn a TV series in 2009. I've seen its vibe described as Tim Burton-meets-Harry Potter). Of the three Casper movies I owned (this, Scare School, and Casper Meets Wendy), it's the only one where Casper gets to have a solid relationship with his uncles from start to finish. They're always trying to teach him how to scarier, but largely because they don't want to lose him in the same way they did his great-aunt Spitzy, who was banished for being too friendly and now they have to act like she never existed (and it's clear that loss still affects them greatly). As a result, they don't hesitate to agree to send Casper to Scare School when ordered to, but then there's a whole scene dedicated to how quickly they miss him afterwards (which itself is preceded by a scene of Casper hinting at his homesickness while looking at a picture of his uncles). Towards the climax of the film, the headmasters find out about his illegal human bestie Jimmy and force Casper to scare him, which causes a depressed Casper to run away in shame, his uncles show up at the school worried sick about him. When Casper finds out his uncles are in trouble, he doesn't hesitate in his determination to go save them, as well as everyone else being victimized by the headmasters' planned takeover (because surprise! they were the villains).
Point is, though this may not be everyone's favorite piece of Casper media (it only has a 4.5 on IMDB, which honestly surprised me), it's provides a nice and much-needed change of pace regarding Casper's interactions with his uncles. 😌👻
11:15 I like to think in this scene the Ghostly Trio was checking themselves the way they looked before they died, Clint Eastwood is Stretch, Brodney Dangerfield is Fatso and Mel Gibson is Stinky
@@lauracerqueiramachado8979 Then who would be the Crypt Keeper, Casper's father?
@@AlextheHistorian idk, maybe Stinky also wanted to see how his dead human body looked like now 😅

Same for me when my mom passed away in 2013. Hard to watch the endings of the first two Home Alone movies.
I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you have a good support network around you. Sending you so much love, from a stranger in the UK 🇬🇧 xxx
My mom passed away in 2016, and I hadn't watched this movie in years, so when Kat worries she's forgetting memories of her own mother then recounts a few, that part hit me harder than it ever had before. I even teared up for the first time during James' reunion with Amelia. 💔
"Can I Keep You?" This line always sent chills up my spine, and cemented my crush on Devon Sawa.
It didn’t hit like that for us 😅
Don't worry about it. It was the start of many a 90's girl inability to see red flags.
I included myself in that group.
@@rincaimo812 you call that a redflag? Ever watched “Welcome to the Dollhouse”? Brandon McCarthy walked so Hardin Scott could run
@@lauracerqueiramachado8979 red flags are subjective, and of varying degrees. relax.
@@notamberp fair enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When the ghosts are teasing her dad about Amelia, one of them says "she's always been an angel to me" and another says "she's as nice a person as they come"
The part with Fatso in the dress was to mess with him, but they genuinely did know her and were always going to pass the message along
I didn't have a great or even good relationship with my mother growing up, but even as an adult woman, I can put on 'Casper's Lullaby' by James Horner and it makes me feel comforted when I need it. I wish more people knew this score
Aww that’s so sweet
100%! Such an absolutely beautiful score!!
It Spiritism it’s said that souls in Heaven can come back to the living world once in a while to visit their loved ones and help tormented souls that became ghosts to cross over, Amelia must be one of those, she tried to convince the Ghostly Trio to stop pranking people and go to the other side, it didn’t work but she was nice to them so they respect her
I watched this movie when I was little but haven’t thought about it until a couple of years ago because I listened to a piano version of Casper’s Lullaby on SoundCloud and it almost made me cry so I rewatched the movie and I love it even more now
I still think this was one of the best live-action adaptations of a cartoon ever made, the 1990’s was the golden age of live-action movie adaptations, “The Flintstones”, “Inspector Gadget”, “George of the Jungle”, but “Casper” still stands out because we can see there was a lot of heart in it, the CGI was amazing, the soundtrack was amazing (composed by James Horner who made the soundtrack of “Titanic”), the acting was amazing, the references were amazing, it explored deep parts of it’s IP that the fans probably wondered about, like the fact that Casper is a ghost and a child implied that he died young which is quite sad by default, I wish this movie had a sequel because the end had so many loose ends, like what happened to Casper’s parents after they died? Did they become ghosts? If so why aren’t they there? Could they get some more of that substance that made the machine work? I wish we got to see Kat as a ghost having fun with Casper and becoming even more powerful than his uncles
This could’ve definitely used another movie to answer some more questions lol
Don't forget Casper Meets Wendy with Hillary Duff! I feel like no one remembers this one but I adored it as a little kid and watched it over and over
Father Guido Sarducci is a fictional SNL character created by American comedian Don Novello. The character was a chain-smoking priest who worked as a gossip columnist and rock critic for the Vatican newspaper. 😂
😄😄
That’s sounds so fun and intriguing lol
I actually think it makes sense why Kat doesn't see her mom. Unlike her father, she had accepted her mother's death. Yes, she was still grieving her, but the mother's death hadn't tragically altered her like the dad. On the other hand, Dr. Harvey quit his job and repeatedly uprooted Kat from her life in order to search for his dead wife. And based on his conversation with Casper's uncles, he had no way of contacting her on his own anyway. One could say he was chasing a ghost.
I LOVED this movie as a teenager because I was OBSESSED with Devon Sawa. The 90s had the best heart throbs, change my mind. 😂
😂😂 I won’t fight you on that
Strangely, as a straight female, I was obsessed with Cristina Ricci and fell in love with Devon Sawa because of her. Lol
Omg Rizzo’s eyes darting at the realization of what Kat’s mom said to her dad and then his emotional reaction at 35:00 was so sweet.
I cried with this movie so much. I forgot all the sub plots and most of the movie but now I remember why it hits so hard.

My grandpa died, I was with him, just before I went to school. My class had a field trip that day and this is the movie we saw.
I love the movie and also had the crush on Casper, but part of me always equates it with my grandpa's death.
Also attending his funeral with "it's my party and I'll die if I want to" in my head was a thing that happened.
I saw this in the theater when I was 12. As human Casper descends the stairs at the end, I whispered to my mom, “I swear, if he is fine!…” Then when the camera turned on his face I fell in preteen love!!! 😂

A bit of a personal story but here it goes, when I was young I used to love the old cartoons and when this came out I was obsessed with this movie. During that time pizza hut was running a promotion where they were selling theses rubber casper puppest all 4 ghosts from the movie. Well I went to Disney Land with some relatives and when we got back to my great grandma's house my mom was sitting on the concrete steps leading up to the porch crying, I didn't understand why at the time. She handed me the whole set of puppets she'd got for me while I was away, then we just sat there for while. My mom had just lost her mom, my grandma. I should have been over the moon for the puppets but all I remember ist thinking, "Moms can cry? mom is crying? What do I do? How can I help? Can I help?" All that is to say, being so intertwined with that core memory makes this movie pretty important to me. I'm so glad it holds up so well. I made sure to take everything I loved about those old cartoons and make them a core part of my art style (specifically backgrounds). As a mater of fact the little mascot for my vids is a casper like ghost because of all the characters I've ever created, it just felt right. Thank y'all for a great reaction.🤌❤️🔥🤘
We are being fed today🎉

Oh my goodness 🎃 What a VHS throw backwards
I really enjoy 😁 your channel Benji & Rizzo! Thank you for this upload! Since you watched this beautiful classic, please do Casper 👻 Meets Wendy (1998) with Hilary Duff and Cathy Moriarty, amongst some other fun and amazing actors 🎉
Absolutely will next spooky season 🙌❤️
Yay 🎉 Thank you both!
I loved this movie. The stuff with the mom always killed me. I still tear up hearing that song.
Yepp🥹
NGL, I ruined my VHS tape during Devon Sawa's scene.
Oh no lol
I know it’s more of a Halloween movie, but highly recommend watching The Frightners. It has Michael J. Fox and Paul Bettany. Paul did the voice of Jarvis in the Iron Man movies.
Love the reaction! good video guys.
Thank you! 😊
I freaking love this movie, had such a crush on human Casper as a kid. Now whenever I watch it I lust over the beautiful house. That set was amazing. I want to wander through the halls with dramatic robs and a candlestick.
I was so excited to watch your reactions to this movie. I didn't expect to cry my face off throughout. This movie came out when I was 13 and back then I just thought it was goofy. The comment "Cincinnati" broke up my tears and now I have hiccups from laughing. ❤
The number of movie reaction channels these days is wild
