Yup. I have played rags to riches since sims 1 because it was just a story idea that sounded fun and challenging to me. I didn't call it that, but I have done it ever since. I pretty much start every Sim that way. But I have never actually done a challenge, not because I didn't know of them, but because frankly keeping a list of the rules, using a notebook to track things, let alone paying attention to points all sounded like an insane chore to me.
This update will create a way to do some of these "challenges" without all that annoying work that went with doing them. So I for one, look forward to trying them out, and seeing how they evolve and get modded etc.

@@ChaoticMoira an ea game changer is a program that supposedly was made so that the community could see content early and so that they could be heard ,those who are selected get content early and can share it with others on social media when ea tells them they can ,that was meant for these game changers to give their honest opinions about the packs they've received...and criticism back to ea on the things that should be improved .....BUT at this point most of them (not all) are too afraid to lose the privileges that come with being selected by ea and the perks that come with it that it's basically become free advertising for each new pack ....there are some who are honest and dont worry about it (an example is plumbella) other perks they receive are a camp they were going to that was exclusive to them and free sims merchandise items for them to promote the game ....its frustrating because they were meant to help communicate the serious issues and problems of each pack and they've only really helped with skin tones....like I said most of them when they get the early access and the packs for free ultimately just praise everything about them so yea...

I'm starting to think there should be some kind of focus group of only dedicated simmers who have the power to approve and improve or reject features. They consulted EA Network creators on the skin tones and hire some to build houses and allow their CC to be added into the game, so that'd be the next step up. EA and Maxis just seem still so out of touch somehow when they could make so much more money by giving us what we ask for. I guess Cottage Living didn't get that message across. And the few that did did not like keeping track of scoring themselves. Official EA challenges could help newer summers see what fun it is & google for more when done.

I think the aspiration points as a reward is stupid. The idea of new traits would be cool. I def agree the reward should be something cool.
Trying to credit storylines that people have been playing since the beginning is ridiculous imo. I played rags to riches style, long before anyone typed up a "challenge" and gave it a name (before I ever saw any social media on it, I played Disney Princesses, evil twins, an apocalyptic world, trapped in a cult, and many others). The issues are numerous, consider how many variants of challenges are out there, and was it the person who first mentioned doing it in their own game just in the midst of a thread (if that can even be found), or the person who decided to take that person's game play/story idea and post it "as a challenge"? I mean it is just a mess in many cases. Many challenges that grow big, came from someone else's idea, that someone else tweaked, and they didn't always credit anyone either.

@@elainal6847 I don't think there is any harm in saying "this feature is inspired by Sims players," but I also don't see that as being hidden. I mean I guess I just don't get why anyone would feel bothered by them not saying it either.
But honestly if they did say something like, Rags to Riches (brought to you by James Turner) I would roll my eyes at that since I was doing it long before I knew who he was, and in fact when he started doing his extreme version I remember laughing and thinking "finally someone is doing it the right way," because, again, I was ALREADY doing it that way for ages (in fact my rules are even harder).. And, I think he even mentions it wasn't his idea.. So most credits would just have no basis. They are mostly just storylines that tons of people have done for ages. No shade on James btw, I totally enjoy his videos, I just am saying it isn't like he created the concept so it would be ridiculous to feel obligated to credit him. And only using him as an example because you mentioned him.
I will acknowledge there are "a few" very unique challenges that are new and can easily be traced, like the Very Berry one. But even then, EA would have to ask those people if it was their idea, or did one of their subs toss it out there to them, in order to give proper credit. Because people with followers take ideas from their audience all the time, and while they often say things like, "someone mentioned this to me," or the better ones, "thanks to so-and-so for this idea," despite that, many people just remember who THEY got it from. So then the credit often goes to the social media person who voiced it.

I don't think the feature is bad, it's certainly gonna help people who lose track of their progress etc, but why did they choose THIS as a PRIORITY, y'know? Because (based on what we know so far) these are just things we can already do, just with in-game reminders and structure. But we don’t need those to play these storylines. What I would like to have seen instead is more in-game lore/updates to the existing townies to make the world seem more real. And/or more built in storylines to play like with Strangerville or the Sims 2 stories. Just ways to spice up your gameplay and give a starting point for making up your own stories.

Personally I am looking forward to the Scenarios update. I have tried to play the challenges before but I would lose track or forget rules so I would just give up on it after a while. Having an official in game system that holds your game accountable for you is great in my opinion.
I wouldn’t use this in my “main game” though. I’d maybe set up a new file to play specifically for the scenarios. As I do agree with your comments about having “challenging” game play with consequences for my main game is what I want the most from the sims team, but that’s not to say I can’t enjoy the update in the mean time.
I understand why a lot of simmers who do the challenges already find this a very underwhelming update, but for new players, or players who don’t know about the challenges or players like myself who need a little help with being accountable, I see this as a positive update.

I am italian and I can tell you that part of the italian community watching the EA livestream screamed of joy at the word "scenarios" because it is a false friend with the italian word "scenario" that is how we name worlds in the sims 4 (Willow Creek, Oasis Springs...) 🤣🤣🤣 I had a really fun time oh my gosh 🤣🤣🤣 Btw I really don't need this challenges, and plus they are related only to new family units. I think we need new ones but they copied the existing ones. I'm instead waiting for this new kind of Delivery Sistem in the game, as a new gallery with new downloadable free objects, even in limited edition. I think it would be interesting.

So we constantly complain about nothing new unless its paid dlc ect. We constantly complain about the blank slates sims 4 sims are ect.
But yet any time they give us something everyone screams about it. Nothing they give us is good enough everything they give us is stupid.
People in 2021 are exhausting they want everything but accept nothing.

I also didn't like that they just change the name of the challenge and don't even talked about who created them, that's it's something that the players I already do etc. I really like these challenges be part of the game, it's interesting but I guess we need to see how exactly these scenarios will work

the sims team is so lazy. we all know that they stole these challenges from simmers. also, they know modders will tweak the challenge system. the sims team has very little imagination. modders have been saving the game for years. XMiramira and her Melanin packs. for starters.

The "fill your space with colour" was the update with the swatches and on the Livestream they highlighted that this one is "unlock new ways to play"
As for the update itself it just seems bland to me, like it's nothing new or exciting, I could already do that stuff
But I agree with the point lilsimsie made that there are a lot of people who play the Sims and aren't as involved with the community and may not know this challenges.
As far as crediting goes I suppose it's hard to find the inventor of these since they have been a thing for so long that even simmers posting rags to riches now don't credit anyone. It would have been nice though if they said something like this is popular within the community and this will make it easier and more official for you and showcasted more a challenge that they have created. In the Livestream they just acted like it's their brand new idea and I guessed that that bothered me.

Personally, on my wish list, I’d love to have multiple residences or business and a residence on a single lot and working elevators…it’s so sad that something as simple as elevators are not in the game. (Bug was a typo but i thought it would be ironically funny if I left it alone.)

I think if they had gone with what you said about having the community make the challenges; it would be a lot more fun, and I would be willing to do it myself. I know when I play Assassin's Creed Odyssey, they have gamers make up challenging gameplay that a player can choose to click to play them. It's a lot of fun, and it's amazing what the community in AC comes up with as far as gameplay. I really wish they would have done it that way.

lilsimsie made a point that they might be doing this for new players that aren't familiar with how to play the game. It makes sense but I would've liked an update to likes and dislikes, an overhaul of whims, and something like wants and fears, or an attraction system. Sims 4 seems too childish to me and even the aspirations are basically "hold you hand" tutorials.

I'm kinda surprised these gurus didn't make mention of the CAS Sim preference changes referenced in the code that are coming soon (source is TURBOdriver)
It makes me wonder if that's the "add dimension to your sims lives" part as we've already seen the "customize your space with color" (which was more base game colors to all objects, which was nice)
I like to think that if you don't have a story idea, this is their way of introducing it to simmers that don't google stuff like Rags to riches/off the grid/homeless, they just need to add credit where its due (If they do add more challenges, i hope they add more scenarios like the scrapped power outage from sims 2, but i'm not holding my breath)
Someone actually said that the "finding love after breakup" was shallow as your sim can get in a romantic relationship then married in one sim day, but until i see how this sceanrio works, this can't be ruled as such yet
To wrap this up, was it me, or did those 3 gurus really not know what was going on with this new feature in the latter half? like they were completely unaware or unsure of how it would work? (I enjoyed the stream, but the latter half left more questions) and i don't know who wasn't moderating the chat but that was terrible...
Sorry if this was too wordy...

Scenarios are pretty good as a concept, but I do see very good potential if they allowed us to make our own scenarios with a Scenario Creator/Maker. Having this allows us to add in our own goals and objectives in scenarios and add it as another way for people to play The Sims 4 by sharing sceanrios that you made with other people. Add our own rewards for completing certain objective and goals in a scenario. It would act very similar to the Scenario Creator/Maker of the game Plague Inc. and also its successor - Rebel Inc. We can make our own challenges and give it to people to try. It would be really awesome if we can have multiple scenarios in one save. We need The Sims Gurus to turn this concept into a reality. If you introduced a new element to The Sims 4, we will ask you to make this into a fully creative feature.
One example that I see would work with a Scenario Creator would be the Not So Berry Challenge. I know it is kinda of a farfetch and complex idea to make it into a scenario, but you can add rewards for completing each rule of that generation as the scenario, and have the generations be the multiple scenarios.
Another example that would work as an idea with the Scenario Creator is having something to do when your sim or sims is a teenager. Give them the best teenhood by making multiple friends, or have the Parenthood Game Pack integrated with with completing one of the goals rewards you with the Private Journal. Make one of your sims a bad sim to the teen sim by having one of the goals be to snoop at another sim's journal. Much like with lots and sims, if you have a scenario that has rewards that requires a specific pack, you will need that specific pack or packs to download the scenario.
As I said, Scenarios has potential, and the best way to do that is to give us a Scenario Creator/Maker and allow us to make and share it so other people can play them. You can upload and share rooms, lots and sims... I don't see why you can't do thast with scenarios. It might seem slow introducing new scenarios, but if we get more people on board with a Scenario Creator/Maker idea, it might be enough to get The Sims Gurus to actually make this feature perfect for absolutely everyone. Even without packs, scenarios is enough to make the gameplay experience worth wild. So scenarios is a good move, but it needs to be better by letting us make the scenarios.

I’ve been playing The Sims since I was 8 years old. I’m 29 right now and I only discovered the online community and the RUclipsrs etc last year. I really think most players play offline and to them scenarios are a cool new thing. I feel like EA listens to the online community but also tries to balance that with all the people who play offline. And I think they achieved just that with this update :-)
Also, when I was a kid I got one expansion pack a year at Christmas and that was it. That’s what I’m used to and the Sims is the only game I know with soooo many new content all the time. Ever since I discovered the online community I’m surprised by how many new content people expect. I didn’t buy kits because I’m still on a high from Dream Home Decorator! I love it that they keep updating the game (with free and paid content) and I think EA sometimes doesn’t get enough credit for that in the online community.

On one hand I agree with the lilsimsie perspective on what the reasoning might be behind Scenarios, but on the other it kind of feels like they're trying to take some power back after realizing how much smarter and more creative Simmers are at coming up with incredible game play that comes with both challenging and rewarding storylines - which end up differently every time! If anything, the community is just pushing them to do and be better and maybe this is a catalyst for an even bigger moment of outside-of-the-box thinking and game dev!

  • @hennarepo935

I kind of like the idea of challenges, especially if they work in the way that you have to reach goal 1 to unlock something and goal 2 to unlock something else. Like in rags to riches, it wouldnt let you cheat by showering in community lot, visiting other worlds without paying or getting your needs up in someone's home. And as you gain more money, you gain more freedom. I also like the customisation idea. So you could tweak it if you want to add or remove something. Or create your own or use someone else's. It would be so much easier to do legacy challenge and add some restrictions and objectives to each generation. And if you failed, you would have to start again or at some earlier point or had some penalty. I think this also would compensate lack of aspirations. So you could make your own ones that suit your game play

I have a mod that adds Rags to Riches as an aspiration, with a link to the challenge. And if we were getting them as Aspirations, the base game needs more Aspirations. I'm also not thrilled about them adding challenges that were made by the community without attribution or compensation because they've already shaved off the serial numbers when presenting them as names we almost knew, enough that those of us who follow challenges know what they were talking about. I only caught the part of the livestream where they announced this (don't know how I got lucky there) and my hope didn't turn to hype because anyone can have this in the game without EA adding it. I want EA to add things we don't have access to, like bug fixes (the t-posing doctor is getting to me, plus all the things they broke in adding Cottage Living, like building rockets), more aspirations, more occults, refreshing old packs so they work better with new packs, etc. I can do what they offered in my own time, and that's why it disappoints me.

I don't pay any attention to the challenges that players create. Im in general not interested in "challenges" which in my mind are slightly grotesque like the 100 baby one. However I believe in credit where credit is due. EA needs to credit the original creators by name (whatever name they go by in community) and give them some kind of cool exclusive gift to them. They already use us for ideas they should at least reward folks who they are blatantly ripping off.

While I wish this was a partnership or collab with the individuals who created or are best known for the challenges, I really like the built in structure of the challenge being inherent in the game. I always get bored trying to track particularly complex challenges on my own, and find it hard to remember which generations have which careers and etc. Ever since at least Island Living, I've been keeping my expectations at rock bottom so I wouldn't be disappointed and this is one of the base game updates which actually sounds like it would be fun and compliment how I play the game. I actually really enjoy the idea from EA, but I'm gonna need a lot more scenarios then just rags to riches and 7 toddler challenge, and whatever the other two are meant to be. Even if it gets a lukewarm reception from most people I hope they actually stick with it instead of abandoning it like whims.

Give us Apartments to make from the ground up like in TS2
    FREE THE BABIES!
Fix the times it takes to get things done.
Give us the option for rotational play like in TS2.
Just start making more worlds with more lots.
Go through the basegames of TS, TS2, and TS3 and give us what they haven't given us yet
    Bring back the Social Bunny
Give us a color wheel for clothing and hair
    Make pets clickable
Give us cheats w/o using MCC or UI
Seriously! I can't even believe I have to DL mod to raise my sims' hunger level. All these cheats were in the original games.
Give Teens, Kids, and Old People fun things to do. Look at TS3 Generations and go from there.
So many things they could actually do but whatever.
I don't even have TS4 anymore. I'm just here for the tea.

For every idea you're going to have people that think it's exciting, and people that do not. I think what we're not addressing (which is sort of an elephant in the room) is that, you don't get a pat on the back for shouting from the roof tops that you made something more diverse. Just do it. Also, as a Hispanic I do feel underrepresented in CAS. I think the things that are given are almost costume-ish like the sugar skull makeup and the Mariachi outfit. I agree that taking things from paid packs and just slapping them into base game so that there's more representation is not the way to go. It's a start, and it's a step. But do better EA. There are so many people out there that would love to collaborate with you to provide new things that are NEW to all.

I actually like the scenarios. I’ve done challenges before, like empty shell challenges and rags to riches but the scenarios give a fresh perspective on every play through, especially for new players or players who go on sim hiatus' and get bored of the same way of playing or simmers who aren’t RUclipsrs.
I haven’t done the toddler/baby challenges before because I rarely play with toddlers as it is, it’s difficult lol, but I did do the toddler scenario and actually enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to see what else they bring.
Yes, these challenges have been a thing but now there’s an UI for it and rules and direction for players. I don’t see what the problem is lol. If people don’t like it then don’t choose the “Play scenarios” option 😅

Hey cuz! I think the problem with EA introducing consequences is that Sims 4 is marketed as a sandbox game. It's not Sims Living Large. When players say they want "story progression", it means different things to different players. I have a carer who insists that "story progression" means a narrative-driven story, not a sandbox where you create your own story. He says we literally have whims for that. Granted, he does not like EA and is worried about micro-transactions coming into the game and bugs, but the point is that everyone has their own interpretation of what the Sims should be.
Personally, I just play the game for creating my own fantasy families and I don't want to worry about my fledgling vampire sims dying when I move them to Sulani, etc. If they do implement more "realism" into the game, I want it to be toggled, and I think that's the problem. It would be too much to implement features that everyone wants, so they make executive decisions that not everyone likes. Heck, I'm still waiting for werewolf sims. They should have been introduced by now. Last time I checked, I couldn't fix my sim's shower-tub combo. There's just so much for them to do that it would take a miracle for them to do everything.

Some people have never played the sims games before and not everyone is very involved in the community.
