I really like this song, and feel kind of sad I can't find any translations for it, so I did my own, it's rough so feel free to improve it (a lot) /criticize it. 1. 家山別矣 Farewell to our hometown 想念天涯子 Missing you who are traveling the world 便縱京華多異士 Even though, there are many extraordinary people in the capital 只是無人似你 None of them are you
聽潮怕省鄉愁 Hearing the tides, afraid of remembering our hometown 相思怕見盟鷗 Yearning for each other, afraid of seeing flocking gulls 惆悵當時風月 Feeling sadness for those times long past 輸君同我追游 I am unable to have this journey with you.
離魂無據 A soul without roots 夢裡癡癡語 In dreams I ask obsessively 試問卿卿思我不 Asking you: do you miss me? 思我情深幾許 How deeply? 相離挽斷湘簾 Leaving each other, (waiting for you) I end up tearing the blinds 聽更敲斷玉簪 Hearing the time-keepers each night, I end up breaking my jade hairpins 但恨千帆 Can’t bear seeing the countless sails, 過盡千帆不是歸帆 Thousands of sails pass by, yet none brings you back
2. 悵然老矣 I grow old 我共二三子 (Even though) I have some company 知心唯有他鄉樹 I know my heart only contains the trees of a foreign land 萬葉千聲是你 Whose tens of thousands of leaves only speaks of you 江南江北離愁 Separated by the river, parting sadness 年來年去飛鷗 Years pass by, gulls fly by 怕說當時風月 How I fear talking about those times long gone by 閒情不似舊游 Not as carefree as the last time I traveled (by your side) 離魂無據 A soul without roots 夢裡癡癡語 In dreams I ask obsessively 試問卿卿思我不 Asking you: do you miss me? 思我情深幾許 How deeply? 相離挽斷湘簾 Leaving each other, (waiting for you) I end up tearing the blinds 聽更敲斷玉簪 Hearing the time-keepers each night, I end up breaking my jade hairpins 但恨千帆 Can’t bear seeing the countless sails, 過盡千帆不是歸帆 Thousands of sails pass by, yet none brings you back
3. 恍然夢矣 Anxious dreams 夢也徘徊起 I wake up from these wandering dreams 別夢樓臺鸞鏡裡 The dreams I have after you left me, in (our) house, in my mirror decorated with phoenix patterns 餘我一人無你 No longer contains you 天涯地角濃稠 At the end of this earth 此身獨羨雙鷗 I only envy the pairs of seagulls 暮暮朝朝 Days and nights 老去吟遊 I grow old and wander 離魂無據 A soul without roots 夢裡癡癡語 In dreams I ask obsessively 試問卿卿思我不 Asking you: do you miss me? 思我情深幾許 How deeply? 相離挽斷湘簾 Leaving each other, (waiting for you) I end up tearing the blinds 聽更敲斷玉簪 Hearing the time-keepers each night, I end up breaking my jade hairpins 但恨千帆 Can’t bear seeing the countless sails, 過盡千帆不是歸帆 Thousands of sails pass by, yet none brings you back 但恨千帆 Can’t bear seeing the countless sails, 過盡千帆不是歸帆 Thousands of sails pass by, yet none brings you back Fun facts: (1) 聽更:Ancient China had a time keeping system where the night is divided into five 更 (gēng), usually from 7pm-9pm as the first 更, 9pm-11pm as the second and so forth, and every 更 is manually reported by someone going around and hitting a gong (think of a human clock tower/alarm clock), so 聽更 I understood it as hearing the gong from the time keeper reporting the time. Chinese still say 三更半夜 to mean late night/midnight, and that‘s where the phrase originates from, as 三更 (the third 更 would be equivalent to 11pm-1am) (2) Yes, I know 鸞 luán isn't exactly a phoenix (that would be 鳳 fèng or 凰 huáng), but that's the closest translation I can find besides just using luán. 鸞, in any case, would be a phoenix-like mythical bird and is sometimes used together with phoenix in certain Chinese phrases, for example 鸞鳳和鳴, literally it means "the Luan and Phoenix singing in harmony" which is used metaphorically to mean "a husband and wife living happily together".
You did a good job translating this. It's was a close translate if it relate to my uncle's translation, although he didn't know what 鸞 mean. And about first fun facts, yeah he told me about that. But I still wander what "湘簾" supposed to mean? Can you please tell me?
Hendras S “湘簾” is typically a type of bamboo window frame/blind, with decorative carvings within the frame. Think of stained glass windows but substitute the glass with paper (or just nothing) and the seams between the glass with bamboo, and imagine it designed in traditional Chinese patterns. "挽斷湘簾": I treat it as a reference to a line in an ancient Chinese poem "挽斷羅衣留不住", in which case it describes a scene where you cannot keep someone from leaving even if you pulled on his/her clothes so hard that it ended up tearing, but in this song its "挽斷湘簾(等不歸)“ Hope that helps.
Miketo2000 I am Taiwanese, and chinese is my mother tongue.挽斷湘簾 means not only she is so miss her couple so much that tear the curtain but also means she want to let her couple stay with her. In Chinese, especialy ancient Chinese, we use verb to express our mind.挽 has two means, one is pull, like 挽起袖子 or another means, 挽留. By the way, I don't think 挽斷湘簾 reference any poem, but 過盡千帆不是歸帆 related to so many poem, like 過盡千帆皆不是 and 想佳人,妝樓隅望,誤幾回,天涯識歸舟。p.s. I want to know how you know挽斷羅衣留不住,it isn't popular even in chinese culture.
郭峻佑 That's what's so beautiful about the Chinese language (or really any sort of literature in general). People can interpret certain aspects differently based on his/her own personal experiences, and understanding in literature. To me, I just happen to know that poem, and so this line in the song rings that bell, it might have been a stretch, I suppose, but that's what clicked for me. So, I am not saying that I am right and you are wrong, or vice versa, I am simply providing a perspective to facilitate understanding is all - we both are, isn't that so?
These song are written in ancient lyrics, only Chinese people can read them and they takes a lots of time to translate( even that after the translation you still lost the hidden meaning and motions in chinese)
Japanese Vocaloids= upbeat and energetic. Chinese Vocaloids= sad/bittersweet happiness.
what about the korean ones and the lesser known spanish ones
lmao

This is a beautiful songs?
What are the oriental instruments in this song?
The sound is so sad and sweet at the same time.
The most distinguish ones are Pipa, bamboo flute(maybe piccolo), and I don't know the names of those percussion instruments
thank you ^^
saberbutterfly Thanks
有没有人感觉洛天依在这个MV里看起来比往常成熟好多
What is this song name?

Is it me or the video doesn't have a subtitle ?
I‘m so sorry...I haven't done it QAQ, for ancient style song, I plan to sub "三月空城" first, then "惜春去", and then this one
