Hi ! Just to say my view as a frenchman : it was all over the news when Notre Dame burned, and it was indeed emotional. So Macron took the opportunity at hand to promess, without the opinion of any expert, that it would be rebuilt in 5 years. So he made everything possible, including bypassing heavy and slow french administration, and pressuring deadlines, to make it happen in 5 years. So i just wanna say, from my perspective, this whole entreprise has become a way for Macron to win free political points, at a time when he desperatly needs it. Last week, his government got censured, which had not happen in France since since 1962 ! And in his 10min hollow speech in response to this insane political event, he spent 3min praising himself for Notre-Dame. Anyway, glad that it was saved and is beautiful, but i wanted to put a bit of polical context .
Macron had consulted experts before and they said it was possible in 5 years. After the reconstruction and restoration, the craftsmen said that they were happy with this delay because they were able to enjoy the restoration to the fullest.

The letters that look like an 'X' with an overlaid 'P' are the first two letters (Chi and Rho) of the word 'Christ' (ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ/Kristos) in Greek. The symbol is called the Chi-Rho (pronounced like the Egyptian capital 'Cairo') and was first used by Roman Emperor Constantine the Great on his military standard/flag in 312 AD. It became a sign of recognition for Christians during periods of persecution. (In pre-Christian times, the Chi-Rho was used to mark important passages in the margins of pages and was also used on some coins of Ptolemy III Euergetes.)

In addition, the vapors from the millions of tourists and the smoke from the candles did not help the situation. But let's be honest, the cathedral was very dark and not at all at its potential before the fire. There was an underinvestment in this most visited monument in France.
