I was just thinking 'do hamsters take sand baths like a chinchilla does?' And the sand inspector did a spectacular demonstration of just that! Sorry Lotus, your butt is just too cute!! 😊 thank you for sharing Ollie!
The only difference is chinchillas use dust and hamsters use sand. Dust baths would irritate a hamsters upper respiratory system. Also ☝🏼 I agree… the hamster booty was too adorable! 🥰
That enclosure is the hamster equivalent of a royal palace. I just watched the clip featuring its elaborate construction. Brilliant. Although, I kept asking one obvious question above all. HOW THE HELL DO YOU KEEP IT CLEAN?! Scanning the comment section, it became clear I was not alone in asking. The uploader made it a point to answer that question, in full detail. It was an interesting read, and I learnt so much. So, my question answered perfectly and gave me an entirely new perspective on the care of hamsters. If I ever get a hamster, I'll use the other clip as the perfect guide.
@@starbuck1089 because they're very territorial, all hamster species are solitary and individuals gain no benefit from social interaction like we do! even hamsters who have appeared to tolerate each other when living together in the same enclosure for months or longer have higher stress levels and may one day snap and kill/greatly injure the other hamster "out of nowhere", it is ofc not fun waking up to discover a bloodbath and one of your hamsters lifeless corpse which has sadly happened to plenty of owners. some dwarf hamsters in the wild do live in temporary groups but they only do it to raise young and when they need space, they can get it whenever they want (being out in the wild and all). in conclusion, they are happier alone and it isn't fair to them to force them to cohabit with another hamster, even if we think they might "feel lonely" like we or other species would :D
@@starbuck1089 because all hamster species are strictly solitary and very territorial, and individuals don't gain anything (except elevated stress levels) from social interaction like social species (for example humans or mice) do! if housed in the same enclosure, even hamsters who seem to have peacefully cohabited for months or longer can suddenly "snap" and injure/kill the other hamster seemingly out of nowhere. some dwarf hamster species in the wild do live temporarily in female only groups when raising young, but they ofc can leave whenever they want, whereas in captivity they can't just run kilometers away when they want to avoid other hamsters. in conclusion, hamsters just don't want or need "friends" like we do and are happier living alone (though a human can sometimes be welcome in their territory, if they provide treats ofc hahah)
Can you do a live podcast of your lil guy/girl for us? 😅 It's really relaxing watching him/her explore and be cute. I would love to have one but I know I can't give them what they really need 😢
He's a winter white dwarf (hybridised) and his colouring is called sapphire. For the sprays there are a few different ways they are kept upright, for some there are small holes drilled into the shelves below that they poke into, the ones in the garden area are all standing in a pot of tightly compact soil, some are held up using DIY spray holders (which act like vases) and the rest are just shoved straight into the burrowing substrate 😊
This is delightful! Thanks for posting! I am so curious what the maintenance is for this set up? Do you do just surface level cleaning and leave the borrows intact until a total new cage set up? Like, how often do you have to do regular cleanings and how often do you change out the whole thing for fresh bedding? I would consider a set up like this but wondering if it gets smelly? Thanks for the video - definitely made me smile!! 😃
the rolling about in the sand is a thing at all dwarf hamsters do (dsungarians, campbells, hybrids, roborovskis), and it's so cute! Surprising you haven't seen it before if you know hamsters hahah
@@xx__wolfieandflooftastic__4941 well, you will be soon enough if you stick around for a bit! hope you enjoy your time here, even if you don't become as hamster obsessed as many of us here (me. I'm talking about myself) :D

Ohhh! I was asking how much hamsters would be living in this amazing habitat, in the past video… This is for this one little guy! How cute!
Actually, only one hamster can safely live in a habitat, and this is a decent size inclosure for (what I’m assuming is) a dwarf hamster.💕
@@Camrynbenze why can there only be one hamster per enclosure?

Lotus is soooo cute!!! What breed of hamster is she. Also how do you get your sprays to stand up. 😊

Are hamsters just bobtailed chinchillas? 😂 like- what's goin' on here?? I have NEVER seen a hamster do that in sand before.
