11:38 To be fair, I feel EVERY multiplayer game will have this curve. You only get to do "what you like" until you find out how other people do it better. I can't think in a personal experience a game that I played that was multiplayer, where I always did what I wanted vs what it was best for me. Once I knew a more productive path / way, I followed that, instead of solely focusing on what I wanted to do.
that's the reason why i quit playing a LOT of multiplayer games - I tend to pick them up play them for a while and then at some point stuff gets either too hard to solo or there is mandatory multiplayer and then i quit lol
Speaking of questing differences that make a game better, my brother and I remotely played the last few Ghost Recon games together, but Breakpoint added a gameplay option that removed precise quest markers. We would read/listen to the quest info, and then we pulled up the map and discussed where we needed to go, and how to get there, based on our interpretation of the dialog. One of us would fly/drive around looking for landmarks and calling out what we saw, while the other watched for enemies and checked the map. We would periodically swap rolls between navigator the driver. It was such an immersive and fulfilling way to play as a team.
11:39 i saw a video once about an argument to be made about playing the game 'right' to enjoy the game. I think it was 'Why it's rude to suck at Warcraft' by Folding Ideas. IIRC, a point made was that it's a multiplayer game where everyone's success is riding on everyone doing the right thing. So one can insist on playing their way because that's as much commitment they're willing to pour into a game, but if you don't play the 'right' way then you just bring the whole party down and you become a detriment to everyone else's enjoyment of the game. Something like playing for the greater good.
6:16 As someone who used to work in retail and quit because I wasn’t allowed to sit (while having ankle problems due to my weight)… *YES! ABSOLUTELY YES!!! THANK GOD I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!!!!😭* Also ( 8:57 ) don’t worry, Nagzz. I thought the same.😅
You claim that the guy who sued himself is smart.... until you realize that he could have just approved the workmans comp. claim from the start...... So then you realize that he was just doing that for attention....
That problem is more the design of the game more than those players. By not going into Ninja, you are losing more than half of you abilities, damage, and utility. Because of the design, classing up is an unofficial mandatory component of the game. It is stupid, but they wanted the broadest player appeal as possible, so they had to cut out all the intricate design they had been building.
12:16 I'm going to jump in and defend Destiny 2 Warlocks for a hot second because no, I don't feel them. I don't main it by any means but I do play a Warlock and I built it like it was just a skinny Titan that heals and it got really nowhere so I did go and I looked up this small half build for a Prismatic Warlock. I used most of that META, changed the rift from Buffs to Heals and changed the artifacts and now it is the only thing I can solo or solo no death an expert lost sector. I don't think Gamers 100% optimize the fun out of a game, they do in part but mostly I think once you get that many people in the same space the older players will post builds to help new and struggling players because it sure is fun to be anything you want to be until you have to run the same Instance for the 50th time because you don't have anything to handle a 🔺shield but you do have something for a 🔴shield all day because that was your personal "fun, be yourself" build but that 🔴shield doesn't even exist in there and you don't want to leave because of how deep you are. Look at PoE2 it just came out no one has META builds yet it hasn't been power crept yet but as soon as it is we're going to get crazy VOD's of people melting bosses and doing things we currently find impossible, they'll share those builds and others will want to do that too.
The whole build thing with MMOs hit me hard cause MMOs have ruined me like that. I would go look up a good build for my class and learn the rotations instead of coming up with my own build. And what's worse is that I still end up doing that at times in single-player games. Like in Baldur's Gate 3, I would do my own build for my custom character, but I would look up builds for my companions instead of choosing myself for them and I would be playing on normal difficulty.
11:38 Funny enough, the only multiplayer/mmo game I know of that lets you do what you want even without the meta is Warframe. I can go into whatever the game throws at me while I just use what I want to use or play the way I want to play, even in the end game.
Warframe still has the hardcore players yelling at people using less than optimal frames and weapons. But since it is a pseudo single-player game it is possible to ignore them.
@@masterlinktm Honestly, the only time i ever see people complaining like that is when others are failing an objective. Though to be fair the people complaining are also the ones that are also not prepared if they can't complete an objective/mission with others. For me, if I see others struggling in a mission then I will gladly help them get through it instead of trying to tell them to "get good".
I hate the metagame mentality... I mean I get it, I like to know what's the best... But competing for top spot on dps meters back in Burning Crusade with guild mates, just by trying out weird builds for ourselves, was peak WoW. I don't think a game died faster for me than League of Legends, after having a Jungler became a mandatory thing for every team after that first big tournament.

When I first played POE, I looked at the skill tree, got overwhelmed, and never played it again.

Oof, I feel that MMO one. Played FF14, just wanted to be a Rogue. Then on a Rai someone complains that I'm only a Rogue and didn't class up to Ninja.
