Of course old Bulgarians were Turkic, the name Bulgar is Turkic, the Bulghar Khans had Turkic names and even the Tamgha ( symbol ) of the Dulo clan is Turkic (and the name Dulo is also Turkic ). Actual Bulgarians are Indo-european because Slavs took their name. The Bulgarian empire was founded by the Dulo clan which is a Turkic clan that came from the western Turkic Khaganate.

Of course old Bulgarians were Turkic, the name Bulgar is Turkic, the Bulghar Khans had Turkic names and even the Tamgha ( symbol ) of the Dulo clan is Turkic (and the name Dulo is also Turkic ). Actual Bulgarians are Indo-european because Slavs took their name. The Bulgarian empire was founded by the Dulo clan which is a Turkic clan that came from the western Turkic Khaganate.

There are people even in central Europe who are using some of these names (like Kurt in Germany). Of curse I don't say that it was imposible for having some mixture but the genetical tests are clear.
