I think they are out there....people just don't care enough about solo/virtuoso artists. I just don'T get why someone showing his ass on YT will get more views than all of these artists put together. I almost feel bad for them and give them thumbs up every time I watch a video.
Oh.My.GOD.CRIMINALLY underrated Nevermore album. Everyone is so focused on Dead Heart and Neon Black that I think they are truly missing out. Excellent solo off an amazing album \m/
This album cemented Nevermore's foundation as a band, greatly accepted by power-metal heads and thrashers as well.. Phenomenal songwriting, super unique riffing with so many nuances and details to absorb in each listening, deep lyrics sang or even better, performed by one of the most unique and emotional vocalists .. A true school on what heavy and technical early is.. That album has an ageless feel to it, so many layers of expression and emotion shifting and reconbining into something more crushing and amazing as the album goes on.. The first time listening to this record was a life changer for me and got me really serious about guitar ever since.. Pat's insanity and Jeff's darkness with Warell's infinite layers of depth along Van's often overlooked but always kickass drumming and Jim's chugging bass lines was a recipe for a prog/thrash monument, a glorious moment that hardly could be recaptured or matched by anyone else..
It's almost like his solos are peppered of Becker and Friedman in one solo...literally like he's playing a "Becker esq" section into a "Marty esq" section... Friggin awesome.
Cacophony = Marty Friedman & Jason Becker. Minor 3rd is an interval, exactly 3 half steps away. The inversion of a Major 6th(opposite). ex 1st fret on E string (F) to the 4th fret (G#/Ab) is a minor 3rd. Stacking them consecutively (1, 4, 7,10 or F, Ab, B, D for example) creates stacked minor 3rds, aka the diminished scale. You can obviously play em on one string, but to get any real speed out of them, you gotta either play em diagonally with 2 notes per string (ex 1, 4 on E string - 2, 5 on A - 3, 6 on D - 4, 7 on G etc) or use the Z pattern which uses 3 strings and the shape looks like a backwards letter Z. e-----------------------9---12---9-----------------------] B----------------11--------------------11----------------] G----9---12----------------------------------12---9----]
@@rickfeith6372 thanx! I "sort" of understand what yr saying.. I think I play smthn similar (not like that or evn remotely close..) but nvr knew what it was called.. And, well aware of Cacophony! Hated the singer. But I still spin the instrumentals all the damn time...
YES! So many awesome riffs and solos in the politics of ecstasy. Glad you're doing lessons. My favorite riff in the album has to be from The learning. It's so freaking heavy, I love it!
I love these videosss!! I've been a fan of yours for a really long time and I always find it difficult to learn the solos myself, so to be able to watch you play up close really helps me out man! You're an amazing guitarist and an amazing guy overall, been my #1 inspiration as a young musician since I've started! Keep em coming Mr. Loomis!🤘🏻
Love it man! Some of your own solos/ideas (warms ups, exercises, favourite solos) would also be sold. A lot of people here, I’m sure, would be really interesting in what it is that you do with the guitar daily! Keep the videos coming
First thing i notice is the beard, it really looks good on him and i have never seen him with one, for the last 20 years i have been a fan !! Not even going to mention the solo and the playing everyone already knows how great Jeff is :D Really glad he's making videos !!
Rob King Absolutely 100% agreed! That little chromatic run during his diminished scales are his signature lick and they never get old man. Even when he slows that run down, I practice it for hours and can’t get them up to speed like him. His alternate picking is out of this world. I need to spend more time with a metronome 😫. Jeff Loomis is amazing.
My Lord, now that is a prime representation of mastering ones' craft! The smooth, fluidity which is displayed certainly indicates many years of hard work and a whole bunch of talent! My friend, I doubt I would ever be able to play a fraction as good as you, but that being said, you will certainly inspire me to work harder and to constantly improve! Thank you for that!! Also, thanks for being such a cool person too, everyone I've ever heard from that has interacted with you says you're the coolest guy ever!
I love this album (The Politics of Ecstasy) and the debut album too. For me they are the best, perhaps because they were the first CDs I bought in order of release. The "Nevermore" debut even came with an extra catalog of Century Media albums. This is Nevermore's favorite guitar solo!!! Could do a solo lesson from the tracks "Garden of Gray", "Timothy Leary", "Matricide", "Inside Four Walls", "Engines Of Hate", "Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday" too. See ya!
The thing about Nevermore was that Warrel Dane's singing and concepts gave the music an emotional weight and context that Jeff then took to another level with his solos. In my opinion, a truly great solo is one that expresses the emotions of the song in a way that can't be done with words. If you don't have a great song, you can't have a truly great solo. If not it's just noodling.
I feel like I've been waiting for this for 15 years. The world needs more Jeff Loomis

Sadly we will never see alive performance of any of these Nevermore classics ever again :( RIP Warrel
5 years later, jeff loomis announced that he is forming nevermore again along with Van for a reunion
hold that thought, New nevermore incoming
Amazing Jeff! nice Krisiun t-shirt! 🔥🤘🏽
This was the first Nevermore Song I ever heard and up til now the solo is the one that kept stuck in my head the most, of all Nevermore solos I heard
That neck pickup tone is killer Jeff as is the whole solo !
my guitar doesn’t do that...
needs moar abalone probsly
well, you need a new guitar then
😂
Andy la roque is proud of you, you and Pat killed it on this album
Love this sick psychotic bend in beginning....make more sick bends 🤘😁 the open strings is sick cool too Jeff 🤘😁
Man that was much needed. The Learning is quite possibly thee greatest metal song I've heard from Nevermore, or any band for that matter.
Loomis, keep posting on RUclips. Your playing videos are gold.
how in the world does Jeff loomis have his own channel and i just found it today. best thing i have found this whole year.
I just found it today

Agreed! So many killer songs! My favorite along This Godless Endeavour.
SilverFox same here. Both those albums capture old Nevermore and “new” Nevermore perfectly.

Don't forget In Memory! It's "just" an EP, but it slays.
It's almost like his solos are peppered of Becker and Friedman in one solo...literally like he's playing a "Becker esq" section into a "Marty esq" section...
Friggin awesome.
He definitely studied at the School of Cacophony...even his stacked minor 3rds sound exotic. Loomis ❤.
I have no idea what that means but...
Totally...

Thanks for taking the time to do this Jeff. Much help.

Amazing Jeff! Love these videos and studies.
Holy cow!! I dropped everything I was doing and immediately picked up my guitar and proceeded to learn that killer solo! Thank you, sir.
That is awesome as always it doesn't get to be any better than that !

Jeff, do politics of ecstasy, seven tongues, or even that mini intro solo on optimist or pessimist! Amazing that you're teaching your old stuff.
This is my favorite one to play! Please do a video for Requiem for the living Jeff!
Guitar is on 🔥
Love these lessons!
I love the decending notes in this solo..

I would love a break down of the next in line chorus riff. I have been trying for years to figure it out.
Awesome! 🤘 Please, make videos about the gear used on the records.
How nice it is to hear how he plays

Jeff, You look good with beard man - keep it :)
Amazing! Would love a solo lesson for Born! A slowed down lesson, that is haha
Killer, although every time I see JL play something I have to listen to the entire album and get sad about WD. Your new Jackson's look amazing!
...and Tim Calvert :(
Finally! Jeff can you do engines of hate solo or born or the intro for requiem for the living? 😁
Great suggestions!
Yeaaah
