@Living The Skye Life Sarah, print received safely from you on Thursday. I couldn’t have asked for better, absolutely adore it ❤ thank you for inscribing as I requested xx
Willie, when you were telling Jack Spaniels he didn't need to jump down off the rocks, I was saying to myself, on behalf of Jack Spaniels, "but dad, there's water...Jack Spaniels must get in water!" Glad he didn't jump into it from off the rocks. I see why y'all call him monkey at times, he's as full of mischief as a monkey. The new boatshed looks great, well done you and Richard. It looks like you and Richard got the roof on the byre waterproofed and replaced just in time before the rains and flooding came along. Hoping you're able to fix where the water is coming in from outside. So nice to see some of the sights of Kirkcaldy, albeit vicariously, in this episode. Scotland is absolutely beautiful and on my bucket list of places I want to go before I leave this earth. Hoping you are well. Greetings from eastern North Carolina. 👋🙋♀️🙂🙂
I live very rural in the woods, we have a campfire percolator. We frequently have 3 day power outages & the ability to make coffee without power is wonderful! Also keeping some usb charging led lights on hand for such outages.✌️💕🤘
Growing up amongst people of Scottish descent who settled here, I can confirm that their language of affection is incessant ribbing. Richard must really like you guys and Willie must really love Sarah! Also, I can understand why so many of the Scots who came to America settled where I live. The scenery would have felt very homey, as would the unpredictable weather. We often say that if you don't like the weather in Kentucky, wait 5 minutes. ❤Love seeing the little lambs playing!
You really are the loveliest wee family with your fur baby Jack Spaniel. Richard is such a brilliant friend, I love his sense of humour that always makes me laugh. Fabulous way to start the week! Much love to you all ❤
I'm all caught up ... yay .. I will leave comments on the other videos .. algorithm and that 🤣🤣 mother nature is wild ... the difference in that water flow over just a few hours is incredible .. what an amazing neighbour you have too 🙌🙌
You’ve pronounced Zsa Zsa Gabor correctly, at least to my 75-year-old memory as someone who grew up in the United States of America and heard her name on television shows. Thank goodness you were able to get that water diverted!
It was probably a blessing in disguise having the flood now before you put floorboards down, as now you know where the problem is and can sort it out without losing stuff to water damage.
Richard is a Godsend. You will have to adopt him😁 It will take awhile longer before the property reveals it's secrets. However you are young and it's all in front of you. All the very best to you both.
Water can be frightening when there's a lot of it in the wrong place. We lived in a new build on the side of a small Welsh mountain & during heavy rainfall one night the run off from the mountain was diverted because of our neighbours' newly built rockery through our garden rather than straight down the mountain. A hasty trench was dug by me in wellies & waterproofs & the torrents ran across their garden & down the mountain again. 💦
Sorry you got flooded. Thank goodness you were at your cottage at the time and managed to divert the water with Richard's help. When I moved to Romania in 2010 my basement got flooded after heavy rain but it happened a few days after the rain due to rising ground water level. My house is at the foot of a 100 metre high ridge and when it was raining there was water flowing through the courtyard, under the big gates and out into the road. Fortunately it hasn't happened since although I did buy a submersible pump and 30 metres of plastic pipe which would allow me to pump any water from the basement straight out into the roadside gulley.
I'm currently in Germany healing from a war injury in Donetsk region of Ukraine. Ukraine is my home and we live much like you do in my region. Your videos and seeing your life makes me forget what's happening in my country. I'm a member of Kraken special forces regiment and maybe I can pay Sarah for a piece of artwork dedicated to my regiment. Thank you for these videos.
@@livingtheskyelife Thank you for the kindness. I have a suggestion Willie and I say this after all of the death and destruction I've seen over the past year. You and Sarah took a risk buying this cabin but you believe in yourselves and you'll be successful. Take another risk and make her your wife. I say this because that bond of marriage is very special, especially in Ukraine it's the most important thing in life, even through the war the wives stand by their husbands regardless of injury. The love in a married couples eyes can never be replaced.
@@livingtheskyelife a time capsule, when I was younger my late grandad was a carpenter, he engraved a piece of wood with all my families names on 6 children and my mum & dad, it was put under the wooden step into the play room 15 years later I wrote to the new owners if I could pay to get it back to give to my dad before he died. It was lovely to see it again
You 2 are doing such a great job at refurb…gorgeous! 🤩 Mr Richard is quite a character! And so generous with his time & abilities. Richard, you’re a ROCK STAR!
Hello Sarah, hello Willie and of course hello Jack Spaniels. Richard has been a life saver. You've made a big improvement on your new property. Until next time. Greetings from the U.S.A.
Living on Skye is definitely a daily adventure, but one you are obviously up to, especially with good friends and neighbours (like Richard) to lend a hand when needed. The property is lovely! Thanks for sharing!
Well here I am NSW Australia, snug in my bed watching this at 3:30am, Monday morning and it’s 11 degrees! I think I’m cold 😅😅That Scottish weather is unbelievable but it doesn’t stop you guys from getting out there and doing what has to be done, your champions!!!!! So enjoyed this ❤ those lambs gave Jack competition for cuteness 😮(just kidding Jack)🤭
I know Sarah will want lots of natural light in the byer for her studio and I expected you’d add a transparent roofing sheet to the middle sections of the roof, but you must have other light options in the works. 🪔 Love the bloopers and you 3 are such a CUTE family! ❤️
We did think about those panels, but Richard explained to us about the condensation issue - hence why we have installed the membrane. We have gone down a different route for bringing light in, but we will go into this more in future videos 😊
What a legend Richard is, a man of very few words but an absolute trooper. What an amazing neighbour to have. That man is a true grafter and gent. I'm loving watching how Skyelife cottage is coming along. It'll be a stunning place in the summer months. x
....so..."Green Acres is the place to be, Farm'mm livin' is the life I need, land spreading out so far and wide, keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside" ( Zsa Zsa Gabor/Eddie Albert)😃 Have Sarah google it. Look forward to byre updates. Those lambs were too cute!
Good video as always. Glad you guys were able to divert the flooding away from the byer shed. At least it did not go through the house. Jack is so funny. Love the bloopers it makes me laugh. Thanks guys.
1. Your videos always leave me with a smile on my face. 2. Jack Spaniels barking when he gets somewhere he knows - can relate - dog barking in car is deafening. 3. Repointing is hard work - I wish you the best of weather for it.
Never a dull moment on Skye and when purchasing an old property. You guys are doing such an amazing job getting things Skye shape. Richard is a great neighbor. 37:53
Those lambs are SO cute!! I'm so sorry for the flood you had. You made quick work with the fix though. Hopefully it will dry out fast. Now that you have electricity in there can you just run a fan for awhile?? Super happy that the new roof is water tight, at least that worked well. It's nice to have such a knowledgeable and handy friend like Richard. A special thanks to him again. 🤟 I loved seeing those areas you stopped at on the way back to Kirkcaldy. I know we've been there with you on a hike before but I'd forgotten just how beautiful it was. 😍 As usual, I enjoyed every bit of the video. Thanks again for bringing us along. 😊
We live in a village that used to flood on a regular basis until a small dam was constructed. Parts of the village still gets some flooding but on the whole it has worked. This time your house wasn’t flooded but possibly a wakeup call to look at protecting the house, perhaps a mote with a bridge, your own little castle 😊
O wow looked like you had your hands full with the flood, all a learning curve and with the help of the legend Richard. Jack Spaniels and his pieces of wood. ❤ It must have been nice to get back to the peaceful and quietness of the cottage. 🙂
What a lovely pair of grownups and enjoy your coffee machine. Thst Richard is a really good bloke and handy to have around. Hope everything goes well with rest of the repairs and building. Love watching your videos and you live in a very beautiful part of the world. Love from Australia ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The variety of adventures and the amount of country learning you have accrued is quite amazing. And Richard? What a gem. Glad the flood happened so it will be nice and tidy when you move yourselves in. I love going on drives with your family and the kid screaming in Willie’s ear. Take care
Just as well you were back in Skye when that flood hit in the byre. Once again a fantastic video and Richard is a hoot, 'I can't help it if I sniffed' ha ha. Till next week.
Hi, Sarah and Willie and Jack. That was quite the storm. I’m glad that you were able to fix the roof on the byre. Now you just need to repoint the walls🙃 See you next week❤️❤️
Hi Sarah,Willie and wee Jack Spaniel of course. Lol I've been watching your channel for months and couldn't find the subscribe button. To be honest I'm prity hopeless with tech. Lol loved all your paintings Sarah. When are you going to do some more? And Willie I love the music and I've even got my grandsons shouting were living the skye life. Lol just randomly we'll be out for a wee drive they live over at lock Lomond and we'll just look out at the view on a hill walk and shout" we're living the skye life" it's mad but funny. Lol we're planning to drive to skye on a camping trip with my daughters and grandsons for my 60th birthday during the summer. Hopefully we can see you maybe meet you at the cafe for a cuppa and a cake! Our favourite thing to do too. I'll buy some of your prints as I love them. XxKathleen from Greenock
Aww thanks Kathleen! We actively encourage all viewers to shout out ‘Living The Skye Life’ at any opportune moment 🤣 We are hoping to get back to our creative work once the byre is finished. As we are doing a lot of the work ourselves, there isn’t much time for anything else 😅
Well when I'm up your way and you need a volunteer I'll help anyway I can. I'm handy with tools and paint brushes. Lol the ones you use on the walls and wood lol not the art kind. Lol although I would love to paint always said I'd give it a try when I retire but if this government get their way I'll be dead by the time they paye oot my pension. Lol xxK
Oh my goodness! The flood you experienced is awful, but seeing the flow of the water helped you figure out the water run and where the water is coming in your studio. It is better now to figure it out before you complete the inside. Yes. We experienced bad flood damage, but Willie will get it done. I like the new coffee machine for you.😊 . The roof looks great.
Hi Sarah and Willie. The Byre roof looks really good now and at least you’ve tested that it’s waterproof. Wow that flood certainly tried out your ingenuity. At least you can try and ensure that the water is diverted away from your buildings in the future. Richard really is a great neighbour to have. Have a great week. Take care. Nick
What a pain to have the flood, but in some ways not bad timing, so you can get it all fixed before the fit out, which would have been so much worse. You and Richard are doing a great job.
Jack knows a great spot when he sees it 😆😆Now that is my favorite place too! That was so sweet Willie to help your parents 👍🏻 I am sure your parents are grateful to you and also to see Jack 😊 Can you Willie and Richard come help a United States woman with her roof and repairs . 😂😂😂😂 You are both amazing people that do amazing work! That was so much work, but it is almost finished woohoo 🥳🥳🥳⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
You guys are my favorites to watch. Every Sunday I am so excited to see your videos come up. I just love how resourceful you two are. And yes black paint to blend with the countryside. I was wondering if your creek would ever flood. That's been answered. It may be a rough life sometimes, but you guys have the most beautiful life I know.
Another great episode. I'd paint the concrete black on the Byre roof so it blends with the roof panels. Good job the flooding happened when it did so you could see where its leaking through the Byre wall. Might be worth looking at diverting the stream away from your property and digging a deeper trench.....forward planning for worse conditions!
17:00 This made me laugh so much! 🤣🤣 After living with "princess dressers" for 48 years, I finally bought "adult" bedroom furniture 3 weeks ago. I'm happy to say that I took such good care of the old set that they are able to be recycled with just a little spit & polish. 😁 So I guess it's never too late to become an adult, eh? 🤣🤣🥰

My Grandfather vacationed on Skye as a boy. He loved it. Enjoy your adventures .
Great vlog...loved it all, especially the blooper! ❤
Gosh, the work involved in your new property….just as well you are a handyman and have found sniffy Richard.🏴🐾
What a mess the flood made; but, better now than before you started on the inside or had finished!
Yup! So true 😅
A lovely spot breath taking
Another great episode. I'd paint the concrete black on the Byre roof so it blends with the roof panels. Good job the flooding happened when it did so you could see where its leaking through the Byre wall. Might be worth looking at diverting the stream away from your property and digging a deeper trench.....forward planning for worse conditions!
Yup! We are working on the streams to make sure it doesn’t happen again 😅
Even though it was a catastrophe, it still looked beautiful!
Great video, love Richard, what a legend.
Those lambs hoping around are so cute
For SURE..I went back and watched them 3 times.
lovely watching you 2, thank you very much.
Great episode. Friends, family, Jack’s hair style, drama, and progress on the byre. Thanks
Love watching you guys, your doing so well, Richard is amazing 👍🏻exciting times ahead for the byre 😁
Coconut vinegar when you're making the sushi rice if you're not buying packaged. Changes the whole flavor profile in a lovely breezy Caribbean way.
Paint the concrete black, heat storage for the winter.
