This is unbelievable.. I've been thinking about making something like this for a long time now not knowing this video existed and now i see this perfect execution of my idea alive! The world is amazing
its a visual representation of the musical score of the song. the medium is the scenery as viewed from a train. the notes are objects seen from the train. quite simply breathtaking. Gondry is a genius.
I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of work Gondry put into this to match up every beat/instrument of the song with a matching structure in the scenery.
A lot of people probably noticed this already but the appearing objects in the video are in perfect sync with segments of the song (drums, synth, and even the volume levels). Genius!
The thing that amazes me most about the video is how dreamlike Gondry managed to make it look. It's not a train: it's a dream train by dream passages, in dream times.
Not just the beat, every single sound is represented by an object, even the heights of the chimneys near the start is significant. And of course the vocals are represented by the people. It's like his Around The World video on a grand scale. Genius.
Notice that the buildings and objects passing by appear exactly in time with the various beats and musical elements of the track! This is truly a work of art.
I've watched this video over and over and over and over. I first heard this song on the radio, it was being played/mixed by Jason Bentley, I fell in love with it. When I saw the video I watched it at least 10 times in one day. THIS SONG IS AWESOME!!
Every time i hear this song, it takes my head off this world, forgetting everyone and everything, so much to see, so much to do..so little time...Go Chemicalz!
who's thumbs downing this video?? This is one of my favorite music videos ever. It syncs up with the song more than any other music video I've seen, and it's not just a band lip-syncing their music!!
this video reminds me of a visual fruity loops - the samples being added and repeated accordingly, so beautiful. One of my fav music videos. Very beautiful and relaxing.
And what makes it even better is that it's not immediately obvious - I don't think I even noticed until about the second or third time that I watched this video.
Ok well for the people who don't get this video, watch the scenery as it goes by. Certain land marks (houses, trees, poles etc.) represent the audio clips, so in the first half, the poles going by are timed with the drum beat. Everything in this video is edited in.

for those that don't know/didn't notice, this video is actually synced with the song, so everything that appears is in context with the beats =) The song is genious!
I just watched the making of this video. I didnt realise how in detail the video was with the music. Unbelievable. I would also recommend anyone watching this to also watch the making. 10/10
I saw these guys at a festival in Denmark. I was so drunk and tired I was on my way home, then they played this song and i suddenly felt like partying all night... and i did!! peace ya'll!
This is one of my favourite music videos, the looping landscapes are so cleverly done - the effect is subtle and totally in keeping with the flow of the song. Love it!
This song always pops up in my mind when I gaze out of the window when riding the bus. I always look at how the sun shines through the bus onto the grass next to the road, how it seems to change height everytime. Then I always think: someone should make a visualisation of that for media player or something, so that it actually matches the music, just like that clip.
Michel Gondry - He's made other music videos and he's also directed films such as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "The Science of Sleep" as well as "Be Kind, Rewind"
Awesome ...amazing video !!!! i have more then 5 years looking at and i still can not see how they do the images repetitions...wow...so so so creative and clean edition
It's really a visual music piece. It was crafted/repeated/keyframed very specifically. I keep watching looking for more and more visual/audio happening in common.
this is amazing!! the video wasnt set anywere its just an animated loop in time to the music. if you look everything represents a beat or a bit of bass like lamposts or trees or trucks!!
a few month ago I found a video that showed the making of this video! It was astonishing the complexity of the operations required to match audio and video... the scenario is perfectly matched with sound and every object is linked to a specific sound
I don't think you understand that this music video is the world's grandest drum tab. The effects used in this video are inumerous. it is a masterpiece!
I loved this video the first time I saw It, I loved Around The world when I saw ir for the fist time, Eternal Sunshine too. This guy is a freak and a genius.
I think this video is surprisingly creative. It's also supposed to be like a real-life reference. This happens to everyone: You're staring out the window of a car/bus/train/plane and the scenery matches the music... :3
that is crazy!!!! the guy who did that video is genius.... the image is music.... for each bass punch theres a something that represents it....as well as any track of the song.... 5-star vid no doubt !!!
It's not CG, Gondry and his crew shot footage for a day back and forth on a train in France, and using a clever editing technique, he was able to layer the different video tracks in a way that is in sync with the music. The footage is of real buildings and people and scenery.
Now this video reminds me of times I get caught up in my own thoughts when driving around, starin' out the window completley stoned. I usually have epiphanies about life or think about really happy things.
Love the idea of this video. Reminds me of Around the World by Daft Punk, where every costume in the clip represents an instrument and the people in those costumes start moving on the rythm and pitch of the song.
Ive only just noticed the synced up images to the beats in the song!!. god this happens to me all the time on the train to college, i see what fits with my music out of the stuff going past outside.
Masterpiece!!! Look at these all things in video how they occur and disappear with music. This video show structure of attendant music and shows how ordinary things can become an art.
always loved this, with a passion. I mean, its mainly instrumental, but thats what amazing about it. kinda like Toca Me stand up as an amazing song on its own or with the vocals which are added in Toca's Miracle. most songs wouldn't be anything without vocals. its almost euphoric.
Gondry is a genius.
best video ever. I remember being a kid and being mind-blown when I realised the concept
I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of work Gondry put into this to match up every beat/instrument of the song with a matching structure in the scenery.
I remember being like 9 and hearing this on wrc 2 for the ps2 ahhhh the memories!!!
thats where i first heard it
A lot of people probably noticed this already but the appearing objects in the video are in perfect sync with segments of the song (drums, synth, and even the volume levels). Genius!
Probably one of the best vibes in a music video my eyes were ever drawn to.
Genius.
such a timeless choon,.. after many years and many times played, this track is still great! CLASSIC
I just love how the beats in the song are perfectly matched by objects in the video.
Notice that the buildings and objects passing by appear exactly in time with the various beats and musical elements of the track! This is truly a work of art.

one of the most beatiful songs out there if not the most beautiful.....
Every time i hear this song, it takes my head off this world, forgetting everyone and everything, so much to see, so much to do..so little time...Go Chemicalz!
michel gondrys direction on this video is pure bliss.
The video's buildings are perfectly coordinated with the music, it's just awesome
who's thumbs downing this video?? This is one of my favorite music videos ever.
It syncs up with the song more than any other music video I've seen, and it's not just a band lip-syncing their music!!
just love how the landscape goest with the beat, simply a masterpiece!
That`s why I love taking the train, I really feel like everything I see fits exactly the song I`m listening. This clip is amazing.
i DREAMED about this setting, and this song. what a mindblowing dream.
this video reminds me of a visual fruity loops - the samples being added and repeated accordingly, so beautiful. One of my fav music videos. Very beautiful and relaxing.
And what makes it even better is that it's not immediately obvious - I don't think I even noticed until about the second or third time that I watched this video.
This video is absoluty brilliant the timing in its perfect. You don't realise until you look at it very closly.
Ok well for the people who don't get this video, watch the scenery as it goes by. Certain land marks (houses, trees, poles etc.) represent the audio clips, so in the first half, the poles going by are timed with the drum beat. Everything in this video is edited in.

"Let Forever Be" is pretty amazing too -- even today, so many years later (I remember being mesmerized the first time I saw it on MuchMusic.)
Now this video reminds me of times I get caught up in my own thoughts when driving around, starin' out the window completley stoned. I usually have epiphanies about life or think about really happy things.

Actually one of the best ideas for music video for this type of music. And awesome song of course :-)
Electronic music for life!
