The mystery of updates downloading initially after install of MSIE, and then cannot connect to internet after on and off when its not a dns issue local machine, is a strange one in itself, with Microsoft support documents/commuity being really unhelpful. Based on the video, i downloaded 2020-001 Servicing stack update (1:56), and its prerequisites but didn't help either. Windows 7 SP1. I think what worked for me, in addition, was also installing Security roll-ups.
After doing all as instructed, it is still showing "virus & spyware definition couldn't be updated" message.
