I don't think they have explicitly stated the rules of the system at any point, but the higher rated people in the group suffer an MMR reduction on points gained at the end of the game. So basically if u group queue and get 1st, you'll often get 80 pts where u would have gotten 90 in the same MMR lobby when queuing solo.
