  • Today, we’re tackling another habit I know you have…complaining.
In today's video, I've got a powerful challenge for you: go the next 24 hours without complaining.
Here's what else is covered in today's training and FAQ:
    Why we complain.
    The three types of complaints.
A simple challenge for you over the next 24 hours.
Why complaining is a habit and how it connects to the brain's default network.
    Do thoughts count as complaints?
What if my friend always complains?

    Hi Mel
I am a 64 year old from Kent in Uk. I wish you were around 20 years ago. I have struggled with my life for the last 30 years when I had naturally conceived triplets. They were premature and one of them was disabled and then 11 years ago one was diagnosed with a severe mental health condition. You are making me see life in a different and better way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Annemarie White

Thank you for this training! I wish I’d had this years ago. All I did was complain for the past 28 years or so but particularly while I was raising my children. It had a negative impact on all of my relationships...😢. For anyone who reads this, please listen to this and try to break the habit before it’s too late.

I recently got injured from a bad horse accident. So you could image that was a set back because my life and work revolves around horses. This happened during the time where I was involved in this mind set reset and even know I could ride horses or work or even walk I had a positive attitude while the whole Time I was deliberately thinking positively. I know it was because of this that I am able to walk now and I am healing up fast! Thank for doing this!!❤️

My son is 22 years old . He has struggled with anxiety all of his teenage life. I love your program. I am a person who everyone thinks I'm always happy. I work every day to be positive by doing things like your AWESOME program.
I tell Max if you change how you think you'll change your life.
He will try for a day and say it doesn't work.
He has a bad habit to be negative.
He is battling depression and has been suicidal. He is on meds and is taking to someone.
I want him to do this program but I dont think he will. I send him your videos .
Thanks for such an amazing gift you have given so many of us.
And for all you down loads .
    Your a true blessing

Since starting this challenge I have been getting up at 5am in order to have an hour to myself in the morning before my daughter wakes up and it's go-go-go! I have been doing visualisation and yoga but I was wondering if it's ok to follow yoga videos on the TV or would it be best to keep the TV off during the morning routine? After yoga I make my lunch for work, breakfast for the family and hop in the shower! By the time my crew wakes up I'm already dressed and ready for the day. What a difference this makes! Thank you so much!!!

It is so nice to focus on what is going well. When pos thoughts starts to out weigh the thoughts that are negative, it is amazing to see the difference in the way that I have been feeling. I am so happy that I found this training. I am greatful because I finally am able to take a good long look at what I can do differently each day to make positive changes in my life. Visualization of what is good when I look at the day I want to have helps me to be deliberate in order to make my life the way I want it to be to support my family and myself. Thanks Mel for highlighting this area that affects our mindset.

This course is amazing, thank you Mel🙌. I love this video about complaining. When people start to complain I don’t take the bait as it is so easy to gossip negatively however it doesn’t serve you and it won’t get you inspired or make you or others successful. You’ve got to break the cycle.

FYI other latecomers like myself - it seems that no-one is looking at/answering our questions now. #25 is now just called 'Do it Anyway'. From what I can see, it is number 3 in this list, yet has a yellow number '11' next to it. Confusing I know. But Mel mentions the 'Do It Anyway' on this #24 video. Hope this helps anyone else going through this later than when they were screened live. You aren't alone, I can promise you that!

Incase anyone hasn't told you today " I love you"! Thank you so very much for this program! I can't wait most mornings to get up and see what the next topic will be. At first I was beating myself up for not keeping up with the videos everyday and then realized it's ok ( with your help). So I do what I can and I've now finished video #24! I have been incorporating lots of the tools that you have given and like everyone sometimes I slip but it makes me very "deliberate" now and I notice more! So my Thank You is filled with so much appreciation for your time and your expertise and most of all your " realness".❤️🙏🏽

"Don't make yourself wrong". This is huge for me. Thank you. I have done a lot of self development seminars so I think I have fairly good insight into the areas where I can improve. When I screw up in one of my weak areas I immediately go to beating myself up. Example, "I have done so much work on myself, why am I still such a screw-up and late for this appointment? I know I should've left earlier. Why didn't I?" I expect excellence from myself. Yet, here I am late again. I hope this makes sense, This is just one example of where I struggle in making myself wrong. Plus, I have a very punctual husband. Ha. He gladly helps to make me wrong as well! lol

In this period of my life I complain about how the world goes, about environment, government, politicians and always I have a sort of "eco-anxiety". This is a big theme! I'm just try to solve it doing somethkng everyday for the planet and joinying some organization in my place that is trying to do something, for example saving our olive threes from the purpose of government to cut them for intensive and "xylella-free" cultivations. How do you handle with these themes? Thankyou Mel! I follow you since I found your first Ted Talk! I really am grateful for your service! 💖

I believe as a previous drug addict when I got clean and since then I feel like complaining become my default. When I didn't have I would always tell myself that I didn't feel good. To quit part of what I done was start telling myself that I didn't feel anywhere as bad as I thought I did and I'm now about 8 months sober however I'm still finding myself complaining but I know the power it has to make yourself not complain. I'ma give it a shot wish me luck.

Wow. The is a doozy. I'm definitely a chronic complainer, never really realized it until today's video. I'm going to try and not complain for the next 24 hours for sure. But I have this fear of not being able to do it! Isn't that crazy? I'm a perfectionist so I'm afraid of failing at this. I knew I had negative thoughts but didn't realize how much I complain about EVERYTHING!!!! Thank you so much for pointing the way. I'm going to do my best and keep at it one minute at a time:) I just have these crazy thoughts that if I don't complain or if I don't think about the worst case scenarios, then they will happen. And that's how I've lived my whole life. And I'm 54 so that's a lot of years thinking one way. This is a game changer; it's going to be really, really hard. But I'm going to try because I'm driving my husband and myself nuts. He calls me the mayor of crazy town:)

It crashed on top of a small garbage can and then hit the tile floor. Expecting the worse, I check the laptop, it was fine, the garbage container was trashed but I was happy because the trash can is a lot cheaper then a laptop! However, I'm sure that my wife will complain about it.

I have my force field around me when I visit because many of my triggers and default thoughts stem from my childhood and from him. I am sensitive to the fact he is ill but can't allow myself to get sucked in to his poor me and complaining. Sonia Sovran I feel for you, as I am going through something similar with my own mother. She has had a string of bad luck, to put it mildly, over the last few years including cancer leading to a mastectomy, job loss, financial difficulties, martial problems, etc. Now, she just dwells in this dark place all the time and refuses to do anything about it but complain, and focus on how hard it is, how nobody cares, and how could this happen to her. She is also a chronic perfectionist so nothing can ever meet her expectations, so conversation with her is 99% toxic, and even when I try to shift to other more positive topics, she finds a way to twist it around into something negative. If it wasn’t for the fact that she is my mother, I would cut ties with her, but she IS my mother, I love her and want to help her, but how to help someone who doesn’t want to be helped? 😟

Love Mel Robbins! Wonder if she has any specific advice for the pressures Criminal trial lawyers go through - specifically, the time pressure of back-to-back-to-back jury trials when lives are on the line and constantly feeling like there's not enough time to prepare. Mel has great advice about running out of time in terms of long term goals, but I'll bet many besides me need help with short-term time management. The anxiety of time constantly running out keeps me from focusing so I can USE the limited time I do have.

You may want to ask your question on her Instagram page - they seem to respond more frequently there. Good luck to you! 🤗

Being a lawyer herself, I'd imagine she'd have plenty of advice in this space...definitely try her on FB or Instagram.

Love this video. I’m loving this process cause is making us realize about how we react in every situation and be conscious about it. Using the tools you’ve shown us, has made me the better version of myself so far. I feel so different and for the better. This is the way I wanted to start my new year long time ago. Thanks Mel!

    Hey Mel!
One thought I had was what if you know someone who is doing the opposite or complaining?
I have a coworker who is overly confident and talks/brags about herself ALL THE TIME. We were both in the same boat earlier in the year when we were almost laid off and then at the last minute got to stay with our company. I feel like through your training I notice her triggers (as well as mine) and feel like it’s a defense mechanism that she does now ever since we faced the reality that there is no such thing as job security... I guess as you said this would be a ‘productive’ form but feel like it’s masking deeper emotional layers.
I’ve turned into the exact opposite and have a lack of confidence from my old managers and of course feel like as an employee I’m disposable.

I love the mind and the way we can change the way we can think! great upfront explanation- its about being proactive to change your thought process and you are right about the complaining habit. seems odd that we complain to connect to others

Hi! I am from Romania and I start my every single day watching your videos which are so inspiring, thank you a lot! Though I told my mother that she has the habbit of constantly complaining which makes her feel more miserable, she doesn't want to change because she says it is a form of therapy, but I don't see any improvement. How can I help her?

How do you differentiate between observing something that is negative and vocalizing it as purely an observation and complaining? Am I using semantics to justify a negative thought pattern?
