I’m literally 12 and I play 2-3 hours a day until I get bored then I take my bike and go down to the ice rink to play hockey for about 4 hours, and my parents still call me addicted and spoiled.

I have been playing Fortnite for 5 years, I haven’t got addicted, still play sports, not on for too long, you wont get addicted if you know how long you play and what your doing
I think the hardest thing for kids to deal with is the illusion of freedom; games give the player a sense of independance within a familiar logical paradigm. My dad used to simply say if I went outside the rules that he would smash the thing, but given the processing power of even phones this is seeming like no longer an option. I think a fundamental tipping point for my own relationship with the gaming medium is to identify what it is exactly that is being given to the user which cannot seem to be easily supplemented, for example, there is fun, disconnection, being social without inhibition, but this comes at the cost of wasted time; identifying the negative issues as a bummer and using this to find more positive outlets was key for me.
Games give a sense of freedom and virtual reality since they provide a space where your brain can perceive it as a real area since video games are so immersive and make you feel like you're included in something and since it's a social game, you can play with other people and since humans are designed to be social animals, that makes you become even more addicted

I’m 29 years old and I’ve been playing video games ever since I was about four years old I don’t like a Nintendo and Sega Genesis... i’ve been lucky enough to have more than so many consoles I can even remember. I had about every Consol in my life at one point or another. I’ve played tons of games and I have never stumbled across the addiction fortnight can create in a game.... seems like I have neglected all my other games LOL and even when I don’t really wanna play Fortnite I somehow log in... so strange...

Honestly I suffered through video game addiction throughout middle school. Went home after school and ignored homework to play games. Stayed on as late as I could. It isn’t always on the parents but the parents tend to act as if they cannot turn off the internet or remove the console from the child’s possession. I did have moments of rage and I took a look at myself a couple years later in high school, and I really hated how much losing made me rage. So I left gaming for a few years. When I got back into gaming, most games I’m playing are single player now. I don’t think violent video games are an issue for kids imo. But I think there should be an age limit for all online gaming and it should be around 14 years old. Obviously there are still going to be kids playing online but parents might get a better idea when theyre 10 year old want to play Fortnite they’ll say
“Nah, play some Sonic” and decide to let them play three years later at 13 instead.
Parents don’t understand the bond we have with video games and they never will, let the kid have fun, he shouldn’t be playing 24 hours a day but don’t completely strip him from it. That how you get your kid to hate you
