Hi my friend nice video and nice flower's
You made me chuckle. Love the sense of humor. Thanks for the update.
THIS IS AWESOME 🥰
Hi Matthew! I'm looking forward to seeing the North and South gardens once you get them planted up. I think the plants you picked out so far will look really good in those areas. It's too bad about your fruit trees. I don't blame you for wanting to remove them. A small cutting garden will be a nice replacement. The love in a puff vine is really pretty, but I can see your concerns about it. Thank you so much for sharing!
I enjoy your videos.
I think I am waiting for puffer fish hydrangeas too. Your hydrangeas look 99% better than my annabelles.
Oh I love zinnias! Sunflowers are fun too! I consider them both happy flowers. Not that any flowers are sad, zinnias and sunflowers just bring a smile to my face. 🌺💚🙃
I was just talking to my flower growing friend last night. Those two flowers make me and her so happy. I always look out at my sun flowers and say they are smiling at me.🙂
Your hydrangeas look beautiful I wish my were flopping I’m in So. Missouri and we’re in a 3 mount drought . I keep them well watered but it’s just not like a good rain. The blooms are turning brown already.
I believe I’d start cutting that love in a pouf down before it all goes to seed
Also, I love that you also have problems with certain plants. Like what the heck! Right!?!
You are precious, love your channel.. sending love from Georgia 🍑
💕
Looking forward to seeing what's next, great video. The love in the poof vine I would remove as many seed pods or you may regret it next year.
Correction love in the puff vine.
I planted moonflowers, which seemed like a great idea in spring, now I realize they’re morning glories. I planted 8 of them from seed and they all came up. 😳 Pretty sure I’ll have moonflowers for years to come.
I have no luck with Russian sage either!! I’m in zone 5, I planted it in dry soil(practically dirt) and full sun! It hardly grew and browned up all over. I thought this location was what it wanted…
👍👍👍
i have heard the trick with russian sage is a FULL sun location, we’re talking 8+ hrs. & neglect! lol i wouldnt give up on it if i were you. its one of those plants that if you can make it work, its so worth the struggles
It's had full sun and neglect in every place it's been located! Haha. Based on some others comments it just doesn't seem to like some locations for whatever reason.
Russian Sage is practically a perennial here in SoCAL. Takes a couple of seasons to "leap" then wows. Maybe yours needs to be undisturbed for a couple of years?
I do not like spraying my food but there are organic methods of spraying. Usually you have to spray with an organic spray at the end of a dormant season such as late winter or early spring in order to maintain some fruits trees. At least when you spray your trees, you are in control of what is being used unlike the fruits you buy at the store.
I’ve done sprays with dormant oils as well. It’s more about our climate and late freezes than anything else. The buds are usually killed off.
Ignoring my Russian Sages seem to be the trick....I may cut them back early spring but that's about it. And I receive plenty rain here in the mid-Atlantic. The key is full sun all day.....
My Denim and Lace sage loves hot ,full sun.
Fruit trees often need spraying. I don't know if anybody can grow them organically. The rest of your garden is still lovely. This was my year for a cutting garden. Then central Texas 8b turned horribly hot with drought. Next year in South Carolina.
I have terrible luck with Russian sage as well. Tried 3 denim and lace, one died and the other two are looking sketchy. Zone 6 Ohio. Also, the spotted cucumber beetles are killing me...all over my dahlias and surrounding plants.
Correction love in the puff vine.
I have not had good luck with Russian sage either. I live in Indiana 6b.
I can't get Russian sage to grow either. I'm in SE Michigan, heavy clay like you. Maybe that's the problem? Your Love in a Puff is amazing. I tossed some seeds in one of my beds a few years ago and it comes up every year but it's just a small plant - nothing like yours. I was surprised to see that yours grew that way considering the experience I've had with it. I wish you luck with it, as mine grows back every year and I'm always surprised that it does.
I was told that Russian Sage grows like a weed, easy and effortless as long as planted in sunny well drained location... But it just doesn't like me! How ironic (I'm Russian lol) 😃 Now I see I'm not the only one. Live in zone 6B, clay soil.. 🙁🥀
Oh that Love Puff vine is awesome!
Here is my predicament. I am at a toss up. Love Puff or Kudzu.
If I planted 20 Love Puff seeds, would that be plenty enough to take over the walls and ceiling in the livingroom? Do they have the little claw like things that help them climb?
Thank You For Any Help 😊
Same experience here with Love in a Puff! Loved it last year but continue to pull seedlings all summer.
I am going to look for that love-in-a-puff seed! I LOVE IT!
Oh everything looks beautiful Mathew 💕 I’m so proud of you 🌸💕🌸
I can't get over the glaucus blue of that fothergilla - it's amazing! When you have fruit trees, sometimes you just have to call it. I've given a plum one more year to see if my pruning efforts help with the black knot. If 'knot' 🙃, I'll be removing it next year.
Did you try growing the Russian Sage in a container?
That blue father Gillian (sp) plant looks beautiful with that foliage.😍
Russian sage was one of the first plants I planted and it got huge. I have very clay soil.( When we built our house I dug some out and let my kids make items to dry). Never fertilize. No extra water after the first year. Hope it makes it. Great color and texture.
I believe it’s Fothergilla…I planted three of these maybe 10 years ago…but they wound up getting sort of overtaken by some large burning bushes, and I practically forgot about them…but I’ve uncovered them, and they still appear healthy, even though they’re all kinda misshapen…there are even some smaller ones coming up around them…sort of spreading…maybe by rhizomes?
Lol. I love how ya ended the video. So true! I’m still working on cleome popping up all over. Not as bad as last year but it shows up in really unexpected spots. Oh and yucca. We pulled several out last year. Those roots are in sane. New shoots are popping up in 3 places where we removed them. I’ve struggled with Russian sage and lavender here in KS. I think it’s the clay soil too. Just gotta find that sweet spot where the wind hits and lots of all day sun. That’s where I’ve found the best luck growing them.
Love In a Puff may be a great idea to do on an arbor in your cut flower area that will replace the fruit trees…at least it would keep the reseeding to that area. I love it as an addition to bouquets! It’s beautiful, yes, but I agree it can stress you out!
Russian Sage does not grow well for me either in 6b. Moved it twice then it went to trash! Your garden is beautiful!, even with the reseeding plant!! 😄
Matthew, oh my goodness, that love in a puff vine is certainly one happy camper. As you mentioned, I hope it doesn't end up being a gardener's regret next season. I've ordered my mini clover to seed my garden path areas, and hopefully, they won't back order it, so I can get it established before winter. Are you planning on overseeding your backyard with mini clover or something else? I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up planting under the trees. Have a wonderful weekend! ~Margie🤗🌻🦋🐞
I have a good luck with Russian sage. I am in Illinois zone 5b. It’s interesting to see the difference in the growing experiences in the Midwest.
I love love love your garden. I'm surprised you aren't considering they new hibiscus bushes
Loving your garden!!
I got a lime light prime a couple of months ago and that I’m loving the blooms. But unfortunately the flopped, how did you get yours to grow so up right?
Thank you!
Most any hydrangea will flop the first year or so until they have more established woody growth. They need a couple to a few years to get thicker stems. That’s when you start noticing differences between varieties that can hold their blooms up better than others.
Here in Raleigh NC I tried to grow peaches. I had good stock and pruned according to NC State University extension. The trees were beautiful. They pollinated and fruited generously. However, I realized even when you get to that point, you can have wild animal pressures and lose all your crop. I am not sure if I had squirrels, raccoons or possums, but every single one of my peaches disappeared while in the hard green golf ball size state of ripening. I never even saw a stray pit on the ground. Amazing. I removed the trees, reluctantly, after deciding I did not want to cage the trunks in my ornamental setting.
Also this! I did actually have a very tiny amount of peaches this year. But, they all disappeared and I found a pile of peach pits. Something thought they were tasty for sure.
Beautiful garden..
I have lime light hydrangeas I’m in zone 9
My leaves are turning yellow and falling off. What am I doing wrong 😑
What can I do to keep my leaves green and from falling. I need your help.
Thank you!
Paniculatas experience internal yellowing and leaf drop normally throughout the season. It’s nothing to be concerned about if it’s only a few leaves. It’s typically the oldest leaves that are getting the least sunlight exposure. If it’s a larger number of leaves it may not be receiving enough moisture. Zone 9 is going to be difficult for a hydrangea even though limelight is rated to that zone.
Definitely have my own struggles and plants that I think might be trouble in the future. My Russian sage kept falling over, so I ended up pulling it up and gifting it away. 🤷🏻♀️
Cut the puffball back this year so it doesn't drop all of those seed pods. Maybe keep a few to see how much of an impact it shows. I have the same issue with the black eyed Susan they took over my entire flower bed. I love them but not so much that I don't see anything else.
My nightmare plant is the obedient flower. Previous owner planted them. I ranked it out like crazy. We redid our deck and I sure thought I got them all 😡 maybe you can sell the little monsters 😍
We had rain too and my standard lime light looks pretty bad , not a single branch is going upwards. I planted a peach tree last year and it has about 15 peaches on it ,still not ripe but very exciting. Great video
