Yup! Just make sure to have both sides madked off to prevent marring the paint. I have two 1/2 inch x 4 inch wooded dowels that I use for the more stubborn situations. Kind of like those meat slicers
@@socalfritos9452 the reason we used the fishing line is because it does not leave any marks but you need a soft rubber wheel to take the residual tape off
@@lucianosenisi4323 yup the "eraser wheel" attached to a drill. I am.all too familiar. I have seen guys still scratch the paint because of the dirt trapped under the spoiler and they sawed through. That's why I always taped both sides
I installed the csl style boot spoiler on mine, it looks really good! I used the flutted toffee wheel to remove the glue n came off pretty much perfect! The reason you have them marks is because the glue from the old spoiler is still on your paint, I done exactly the same as you, used cutting compound and polished it n was still there till I used some thinners n it took it all off n looked mint!
I put the higher lipped M-P Style "carbon" spoiler on mine here in Sydney. I am still crying. Not only did the edges lift up over the summer (collecting leaves, bugs etc), but the removal left the same glue mark. Get the CSL boot.
andrew being a panel beater a little trick when installing cut the peeloff in the middle of spoiler peel about 50mm each way line it up push it on in the middle hold spoiler in place and drag the peeloff on one side and repeat on the other starting from the middle will lessen any warp in the spoiler cheers glenn ps the caramel wheel you used is not good next time buy a wurth one they are soft and will not damage the paint
Last time I removed this kind of spoiler I just heated the trunk from the inside, that way the whole metal got hot and then I just removed it and came out with all the glue, the remainers were an easy wipe with isopropilic alcohol. Did it that way cause I was affraid of what you showed here with the paint and all. I second you, that specific spoiler looks... weird, even in the camera, looking forward to tomorrow chaotic launch control lol
The best way to remove the sticky residue that’s left is the use eucalyptus oil as it will dissolve it without harming the paint. I’ve done this on tons of cars
Yeah it looks good from here but mine is a high kick and looks awesome. thing is once you get it in your head that your not too happy with it, it's gonna bother the shit out of you. But it looks good
It looks miles better than the old one 👍🏻👍🏻 I fitted one of these to my e82 135 I was watching feeling your pain fitting it, that hole is a nightmare to get off hahahaha. I ended up fitting a gts wing as well (double wing life) haha Keep up the fantastic work enjoy your videos soooo much 💪🏻😀
I did the same spoiler on my 2011 E90. Did it over a year ago. I felt the same way but it has grown on me. Never had a problem with that double sided tape. Definitely NOT coming off.
Ahh we had one of these eBay units. It is sh1t. Sorry 😞. Doesn’t fit well and even painted to match the car it looked bad. It ended up in the “Bin” as you would say.
So-so on the shape of that... doesn't really echo anything that's already on the car. The high-kick ones are my fav., mine actually saved my dumb ass from losing my iPhone yesterday. Drove like 4 miles on the freeway and it held it snug back there. Very foolish day. -- Also accidentally came back from the shop where I was only supposed to pick up oil change supplies with an NRW carbon fiber sunroof delete kit. Not sure if I'll go through with it. If I do, I'll do it in gloss vinyl to still look like a window, and find a slicktop headliner and recover it in alcantara.
Ohhhh he’ll yeah man! You’re turning yours in to a proper weapon. And totally agree on the high kick. From the picture I ordered I thought that’s what this was….. ahhh well. Drag wing it is for now.
Looks alright to me, but could just be the video hiding the imperfections 🤷♂️ If it stays on at speed, I'd leave it for a while at least. Good to know you identified the leak, bloody leaks always annoying 😣
The answer believe it or not is WD-40. Ask me how I know.I really wish I could have steered you in the right direction on this one. Or if I could have been there to help.
yea that doesn't suit the car at all, maybe get it sprayed the same colour as the car? Yea I'm just gonna be brutally honest it looks shit just as you said yourself lol. But damn this video made me laugh so hard when you stuck it on and realized it ain't going no where and then realized it looks shit. :D On a serious note, I love this channel more than any other channel on youtube. The content is so good, keep up the good work man.
Mate I'm a professional detailer, please just buy a jet wash with a snow foam Lance... If it's ceramic coated you have no reason to even touch the car... Especially not with a sponge😅 I know you're not a car wash guy but you're making it harder than it should be. Pre rinse with the jet wash, then use the autoglym polar series or similar and dry her off. She'll be gleaming and you'll have done next to nothing 😉
You are 100% right. I actually have 2 jet washers and foaming guns. But just never have time to set them up. This whole year washing has been so rushed. I miss the old days where I could spend all morning on Saturday detailing the car.
@@ZeroTo60Tube yeah I hear you, it can be quite a time consuming process... Shame I'm not down under id come clean her for you. I'd seriously recommend the autoglym polar range for domestic car washing, you don't even need to dry the car once you've sealed it! Especially if in your case you're not getting water marks... I imagine it would take you 15 minutes max once you've got it nailed down mate. Love how responsive you are on the comments section, big love from North Wales UK.
In the body shops I've worked at we've used fishing line. We use a 80lb line. For the next time you need jt

A couple of hours out in the Aussie sun would loosen up the glue

I tried peeling that tape off with my fingers and couldn’t feel anything in my fingertips for a week. That wheel is a life saver.
Don't you hate it when you get all this good advice from the comments section which you needed when doing the job.
Its part of 3m's master plan. You use their tape you need to buy their wheel to buff it off!

Wd40 has always worked for me to get glue off. Also I’ve seen people use a thin guitar string to separate off spoilers
Yep high E works a treat
Excellent taste 👌. A few "OMG what have I done?" moments when I did mine. Friends call it the mullet spoiler. I LOVE it.
Huge fan of the channel guys, I recommend corking with some black adhesive sealant - that's what I did and it worked a treat!
Fishing line does it the best

I have got to say. Today it’s grown on me a little. I’d still prefer the high kick version. But I can live with this for a little while.

Leave it on until you get the a CF trunklid. It does not look that bad.
Would be great to see a CSL boot lid install. Always wanted to do that mod.
Looks good on camera👍🏼

I thought this was the high kick 🙃, defo need to pay more attention when ordered parts on eBay.
I do kinda like the wing, it looks good imo
It’s growing on me….. very slowly.

I bought the same one painted it black still have doutes haven’t installed yet

It’s crazy how it locked on. It required a fair bit of force to get the spoiler to semi flat, but the tape held it in place straight away.
Hey Happy Birthday! What day? Mine is today July 23!!! I can’t say the year however it’s obscene!!! 😂

We’ll see how I go with it. Not in love, but I like it more today. We’ll see.
That's the problem with M3 tape. When it sits, it sits. ;) . I use Lacquer thinner to remove this sort of tape. Dutch regards, Nico.
It looks great 👍 I like it
where did u get the spoiler?
Ebay special.
@@ZeroTo60Tube do you remember the price by any chance?
The comments section has been a funny read 😂 people really don't like it! Looks pretty good to me though
Hey guys!!! Love the videos!! Love the spoiler
Use RW carbon method.
Bought one very similar wasn't sure of I liked it either.dont trust the tape so think I'm going to fix it using screws washers etc ...😅😅
Morale of the story don't glue random bits to your boot lol
typing this before the end of the video but... I use some WD40 on a cloth. takes the tape off with a (strong) wipe or 2..
I’m looking to buy a used M4 at the moment and they all have these awful aftermarket boot spoilers. It’s going to be the first thing I remove.

To be fair, it’s grown on me today. Out in the sun ot looks pretty cool on the car.
No rear wing / spoiler deserves to go onto a bmw, especially fibreglass
Have the next one painted black - they all peel.
That's at least an extra 50kW there.
Fingers crossed haha

We’ll I tried the maxima version. This cheap 3m copy has genuinely eaten in to the pain which is a bit sad.
Fishing line is what you need and goo gone
All aftermarket carbon fibre parts don’t fit like OE - even the non Chinese expensive ones.
It looks a bit like you bought it cheap off eBay....

I sort of agree, but i need it to look different to the 325i we have sitting here don’t I. Haha

heat gun in one hand, pull lip off with the other. That was painful to watch

Yeah... Doesn't look right
Yeah it’s grown on me.
But why tho, it's not an M4 is it... sorry i don't like the look of it...
