Duke & UConn all season, plus Michigan St. Ohio St. & so much more. This was a special year for basketball & for me personally. This Duke team was off the hook, so good! Those pull up 3's by Langdon & Avery & then Brand & Maggette-O!!!!!!!!!!
    ... phenomenal.

It's really cool when you have titanic big-names like this playing true home games.
I remember Duke traveled to Pauley in '92 and '95, but I sometimes forget the Bruins made this trip to Cameron Indoor.

For a ten year stretch, Duke and UCLA played each other every year. Good times.

UCLA traveled to Duke in 1993, 1996 and 1998 (this game). Duke also made the trip to Pauley in 1997. They could have met in the 1996-97 Preseason NIT, had Tulsa not neat UCLA

when people talk about best Duke to teams to never win it all I don't get how this team doesn't come up.

Best Duke teams to never win it all, from 1984 when i started watching.
      1. 99 Duke (Brand, Battier, Carawell, Avery, Langdon, Maggette, Burgess, James) Great team that lost 2 games by a combined 5 points all year. But that's the way it goes. Lost the big one, but NCAA BB is that way, you can't win em all.
      2. 86 ( Dawkins and crew) great taem won 37 games but again lost in the finals
3 02 (Jason Williams, Dunleavy, Jones, Boozer, Ewing, Duhon) Several All Time Greats, Choked away a huge lead vs. IU only to be bailed out by a miracle 3 plus 1, but JWill misses the freethrow, Boozer gets fouled on the follow up but its not called. This game was bullshit but UMD was a team of Destiny that year.
4.. 04 (Deng, Williams, Redick, Randolph, Ewing, Duhon - an NBA roster that got royally screwed by the fucking refs in the 04 semi finals, again it wasn't to be, thats how it goes)
      5. 11 (Kyrie Iriving, Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler, 2 Plumless, Ryan Kelly, Dawkins) Again, a team stocked with NBA talent and had Irving not gone down in December they probably wouldve gone undefeated. he came back for the tournament but disruptued the teams flow and Nolan just played terrible against U of A) What could have been.
      6. 98 (Langdon, McCloud, Brand, Battier, Wojo, Avery, Carawell, Chapell, Burgess) - very deep and talented with a great mix of upperclassmen and freshman. UNC was great this year too and choked vs. Utah. Had Duke not choked vs. UK they would have played a bad Stanford team that lucked into the Final 4 and a Good Utah team in the Final.
      7. 94 (The Grant Hill show, nearly won it all, Capel, Collins and Parks, with Lang and Hill was a great squad, over acheieved a hair. Fuck Scotty Thurman haha)
Still Coach K has 4 that he DID win, better than everyone but Wooden. He was close to having 7 or 8 if not more. But lets think of it this way, Duke could have won in 86, 99, 11, 94, 02 and 04 had they got some calls/bounces but may not have won in 92 (if it weren't for Laetneer's SHOT), 01(if not for the HUGE comeback vs. Maryland, down 22 in the final 4), 91(Vegas was a jugernaut and Duke played a perfect game to beat them when the entire world KNEW Vegas was going to win it all) and 10 (What if Gordon Haywood's half court prayer had fallen? Coach K telling Z to miss that 2nd free throw would have died of a heart attack on the court).
So They could have won a few they didn't but also could have lost a few they won. I'll take the 4 any day, yes it would be nice if they had won in 86, 91, 92, 94, 98, 99, 01, 02, 04, 06, 10, 11, and 13 but its not realistic.
Every good program has a few that got away. How about UNC?
      1. 81 - Lost in Finals, James Worthy, Sam Perkins,
      2. 83 - Michale Jordan, Brad Daughtery, Sam Perkins, defending champs lost in sweet 16, "Choking Dean"
      3. 84 - A Junior Michael Jordan, Daughtery, Perkins, Kenny Smith. A great team but Bobby Knight always had Dean's number in big games. Knight owned Dean and IU knocked UNC out early. Huge missed chance for the Heels.
      4. 87 - The team won 32 games and was a favorite to win it all but lost before the final 4, wouldn't have mattered anyway as Dean would've run into Knight somewhere along the road this year, had they made the finals. Still a huge missed chance.
      5. 91 - Deans 1st Final 4 since the 82 season, lost to a less talented Roy KU team, missing thier chance to match up with a Duke team in the Finals for a potential Duke vs. UNC Monday Night Classic. And UNC destroyed Duke in the ACCT final several weeks earlier. Had Dean beat Roy the Heels had a real chance to win it all, since K and Laetneer/Hurley/Hill did the heavy lifiting by knocking out vegas in the other semi. But it wasn't to be and Duke won their 1st, K tied team with 1. The axis of power in the ACC had shifted to Durham.
6.. 94. The defending champs with most everyone back added Wallace, Stackhouse and McInnis and were clear cut favorites to repeat. But chemistry issues and Dean's inability to solve intersquad conflicts doomed this team who lost early to a bad BC team. BIll Curley!
      7. 95 - F4 team led by the previous seasons freshman, Wallace, Stackhouse, McInnis with Shamond Williams. Very real chance to win it all, but not to be.
      8. 97 - Jameson Carter Williams and Co were strong but a year away. Still made a F4 but were dominated by Lute Olsens Wildcats led by 4 stellar guards (Bibby Simon Terry and Dickerson), Deans last game.
      9. 98 - This was their year. Junior's Jameson and Carter were 1st team AA, Cota, Williams were a stellar back court. But they had no depth and no disipline and Guthridges horrible rotating starting line up act doomed them. Utah decimated them in the Final 4 shocking the nation. UNC should've won this year, and if Dean had been around they probably would have.
      10. 01 - Forte's gang was on track for a Number 1 seed until a Sunday afternoon trip to a horrible Clemson team's Little John Coliseum. First Team AA Joe Forte choked and the Heels lost on 5 consecutive Sundays, taking a national title contender from the penthouse to the outhouse, showing just how bad Doh was as a coach. they lost to Clemson, UVA, Duke (by 14) Duke (bye 23) and Peen Freaking State to end their promising year. Until the 2nd Duke game tipped, everyone in the nation felt UNC was the best team in the ACC and would surely beat a wounded Duke squad lacking Boozer who had just broke his foot. Duke was left for dead but K shocked the world and JayWill and Battier led a manic charge to the title reversing the trajectory of the season and breaking millions of Heels fans hearts.
      11. 02/03 - UNC didn't even make the NCAA those years. Chumps. LOL
      12. 05 they won it all, but between AFAM and "the worst call in basektball history" vs. Villanova, the title is tainted and it remains to be seen if that banner will come down offically.
      13. 07-T-hans B Wright and Co were contenders, until Georgetown scored like 33 straight points to cement Roys legacy as "Choking Roy"
      14. 08 - Roy choked again vs. Kansas, Billy Packer : This Game is ova!"
      15. 09 - they won, but again thanks to AFAM and Tyler Hansbrough's Swahili classes this banner will most likely be coming down
      16. 10 - Again, they went to the NIT for the 2nd time and missed the NCAA for the 3rd time in 9 years. Not really an elite program when they're only good 1 out of 3 years and thats bc they cheat in everyway possible.
`17. 11- Barnes "The Next Kobe" and Co. choke away huge lead vs. UK to not go to FF
18 - 12 NCAA favorites, the Heels again don't make the Final 4 cementing Harrison Barnes legacy as the most over hyped and under achieveing player in college history. Kendall Marshal is made of glass
      19. 13- Roy again chokes vs. Kansas
      20. 14 - "If we had PJ yada yada yada"
So basically UNC sucks and they have to cheat to win. 93, 05, and 09 banners are coming down, 82 was a fluke, and 57 was because the refs were racista against Wilt. and 24 - never happened.
UNC - ZERO Legit titles. Even NC State has more, UNC is tied with Wake at 0 haha.

Maybe because UNC clearly had their number, despite Duke being considerably deeper that year.

Every body talks about the 99 duke team that should have won it all I think the 98 duke team was better and deeper than the 99 squad they should have beaten Kentucky that year and won it all
