GashHound If you think that, then you should support privatizing and deregulating the media, so that all views can be more easily heard. Unchallenged bias is what you get when the government owns or controls the media (and yes the 'private' media are controlled by government through very strong regulation).

I think it would be amusing if Ed wins, just so all the people who tried to intimidate him would then have to call him their superior, at least in a general official sense.
And it would piss a lot of people off having someone they perceive as a nerd run the country, so that would be funny to me as well.

I must say, that it was unprofessional on channel 4's part to feature questions which deviated from politics. Questions regarding his relationship with his brother, and whether or not he would have a pint with Cameron, has nothing to do with his ability to govern a nation. Very unprofessional indeed.

Agreed. that was time where actual issues could be explored, especially considering there was limited time. Its not like there are a shortage of issues.

Arcturus Dunhelm 100% With you. We live in a society where the lame and lazy demand and expect everything for free and where most are offended by anything.
We need to force the lazy to scrub floors, pick fruit and veg on the farms, sweep the streets that they throw their shit onto. The list is endless.
As for Miliband. The man is way out of his depth. Has the charisma of a dog turd and whilst ensuring the lazy remain lazy by allowing them their free lifestyle, treats us all like mugs in his multi million pound London house.
I hate socialisism for all of its inequalities. The wealthy socialists ensure the poor are fed and watered for free so they are guaranteed a vote. Fucking hypocracy on a massive scale.

***** That's a great observation Jimmy. I wish we had this type of format in at least one of our presidential debates. Presidents Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and both George Bushes would never survive this type of debate. They would fold. I think Presidents Kennedy, Nixon, Clinton and Obama would do well.
But I know what you are talking about when you mention the "Americanization of British politics." Both of these candidates hired Americans to run their campaigns. Milliband hired David Axelrod. You could see that the audience was becoming impatient with both candidates. They didn't want to address some of the questions and instead wanted to deflect these questions with their campaign spin. They probably were advised to do that.
On behalf of the United States of America, I am sorry that we have bastardized your election campaigns. Before you know it, you people will adopt an electoral college. A dumbass system we should have gotten rid of a long time ago.

Every interview of Ed Miliband he gets asked this very loaded stuff like:
"How do you feel about the fact you stabbed your brother in the back?"
"How do you feel about people saying you're strange?"
"Why do people call you gloomy?"
"Did you know they say you're a geek?"
It's like what's with this stuff. Is it going to be like America now where leadership candidacy is like a schoolyard popularity contest? It's just slathered in ad hominem.
Why does it matter if he isn't a hard man?
And how is Ed Miliband supposed to know the total max population capacity of the British isles? Why is he even asking that.. You'd have to ask people in several scientific fields to know the answer to that, like the bare minimum amount of agricultural land required to support one person, amongst other things.

Paxman showed himself up as a bully - his questioning of Miliband was so personal and not pertinent to the subject like the Election and Manifesto. It was more like the Jeremy Paxman show! Paxman went much more for the jugular with Ed Miliband but I think considering it was a blatantly bias interview Miliband came out of it better and when allowed to reply to a question did well under extreme provocation and interruption.
Also, isn't it odd how Katie Hopkins has tweeted that she will emigrate if Miliband is elected Prime Minister? As in 1997: Cilla Black, Tarbuck, Paul Daniels and Davidson all threatened to emigrate if Labour won.
The point being, why is it that "celebs" who I have no time, liking or respect for, such as Hopkins [the others my family despised], think they are so important and they think that anybody actually cares, why do they issue extreme threats like that?
In the end however, Ed showed tonight that he is: strong, honest and capable of doing the job; he knocked the stuffing out of Paxo and won this round.
Thus the real question here is have we underestimated him? Because after tonight I can see why Cameron didn't want to go up against Ed.
Now the problem for me is that being 17 and not being able to vote [as far as I know], if I could, I would vote Labour to piss off Jeremy and Kate; alongside getting the scummy Conservatives out of government.

Very biased interview. We want to know how Miliband intends to run the country, not details about his relationship with his brother. I didn't see Paxman asking Cameron personal questions, it would have been interesting to know how he excuses his drug taking days in the "Bullingdon Club".
When will biased journalists realise that unfairly targeting a certain individual always backfires? I'd put Farage's success down to an obvious media campaign against him, that was carried out by just about every media outlet in the country. Before this interview I thought Ed couldn't handle a stiff breeze. Now I actually have some respect for the man, I think most of us were impressed by his passion and ability to overcome the odds.

    • @joshualunn5793
      @joshualunn5793 9 лет назад +1

Well they're not going to 'win' exactly no, only someone who doesn't know our electoral system or how the support for minor parties are currently spread across the county would say that anybody but lab or con have a chance of winning. But you are right that the minor parties should be interviewed, we will probably see another 2010 scenario where one of the minor parties gets to chose who to form a government WITH and in that situation I agree it's only fair that we should hear what they have to say. On the other hand, it's not as if Farage or Bennett or Clegg haven't been doing interviews that you can go and watch.

If there's anyone watching this now who's interested in the way politicians answer questions in relation to their overall campaigning strategy, I'd recommend listening to a Matt Forde's Political Party podcast episode with Douglas Alexander from 2015. He was responsible for Labour's 2001 and 2015 campaign strategies. He mentions how when answering questions politicians should 'be categoric, then qualify' - state their position, then explain how or why. During Ed's session with the audience he very clearly follows this guideline.

Ed had a good campaign in 2015, but came up against (at the time) a smooth and competent leader in Cameron. In 2015, the economy was improving and Labour has been kicked out of office only 5 years ago. Had Ed been the leader now with the same policies and ideas, he would be more popular, and would be leading the polls massively against an incompetent, inept and infighting Tory party

ezekielthemack I was looking at the substance although clearly you were not, and the robotic Miliband did not show any integrity especially about his brother, and when his attempted "joke" about eating a bacon sandwich failed to illicit even a sympathy laugh he looked completely the fool, as your comment has shown you to be too.

    • @ezekielthemack
      @ezekielthemack 9 лет назад +4

      Dominic Bennett
Don't tell me what I was or was NOT doing. Secondly, there was NOTHING robotic about Miliband, which tells me that you clearly do not interpret body language very well, because of the two men he was the most genuine and the most effusive. Also, how the hell do you arrive at him not showing integrity towards his brother? If I recall, he was VERY honest about the fact that the relationship was very strained for a period of time, if that isn't exhibiting integrity I don't know what is. You clearly have no clue as to what the word integrity means.
David Cameron, on the other hand was as fake as the day is long and this was particularly borne out by the fact that the man couldn't even give "ball park" figure as to the number of food banks currently in the country. That in of itself is indicative of how aloof this man is towards people on the lower scale of the socio-economic strata in this country.
In closing, It is better to be considered a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt as you've just done. Go figure...

    • @1DomBennett

ezekielthemack Why is it you seem incapable of creating a sentence without putting something in capitals, is it simply because you do not know how stupid it makes you appear, or are you attempting to compensate for a lack of something? How on earth does not knowing the number of food banks in this country make him aloof? Did you again fail to notice that he also mentioned that under your mate Miliband's party when they were last in charge and bankrupted the country, that signs for food banks were deliberately hidden, something that Cameron made sure would never happen under his Prime Ministership which I would suggest indicates integrity, irony abounds, but not unfortunately intelligence as you have yet again so admirably demonstrated.

Dominic Bennett "Why is it you seem incapable of creating a sentence without putting something in capitals" - It's called EMPHASIS. Have you never heard of that word Dominic?
Now to your second question:" How on earth does not knowing the number of food banks in this country make him aloof?" - The fact that you even ASK this question is testament to your ignorance and I'm glad it's in print, so that the entire youtube community can appreciate how innately dumb and ignorant you are for asking such a STUPID (are the caps annoying you yet lol...) question.
As for the rest of the litany of garbage that you've written, in case you missed it Ed Miliband was NOT running the country at the time of the GLOBAL financial crisis, note I said GLOBAL, because the crisis was not exclusive to this country under Labour as idiots like you seem to think.
In closing may I remind the youtube community AGAIN of your innately ignorant comment vis a vis David Cameron: "How on earth does not knowing the number of food banks in this country make him aloof?"
      Priceless, absolutely priceless. SMH.

Ed seems like a nice person. But he should have answered the question on immigration. A population the seize of Malta moving to UK under Labour is a shocking and unacceptable level of migration. He's not offering a referendum, he's not offering a precise views on migration, and his policies are full of mist. No man should lead a country with such a Manifesto.

I'm sorry but there is more corruption in Job Centres than in the Kremlin. The unemployment statistics are artificial and not representitive of actual unemployment.
It is a nightmare for a young person (under 25s) to get work these days. I stopped signing on, moved cross country, went to my now, 3rd college, in an attempt to start a new life in a city which has abundant work (nearly 2 jobs for every person here). Yet I have only had 1 job since as a bartender in which management treated me like shite and then sacked me for calling in sick 1 week before the probationary period had ended.
I would be happy to start a political party and actually do something to get this country out of the state that it is in. I'm not a toff, I am not a stiff upper lip prick, I am simply a working class to low middle class person which has tried in vain to improve my life, improve myself as a person and tried to get a job based onmy merit only to be pushed back and put down for it with no help what so ever from local authorities. I currently have £0 income, I am £4000+ in debt and that is after trying 110% to get somewhere. Companies don't want to hire you or even give you a chance with some vouluntary work, instead they'd rather take all the money you have and put you on the streets to rot.
There is no winning as a youngster anymore as you are dismissed as some stupid naive moron that can't be bothered to work.

Having now watched the spectacle of what Bradshaw has dubbed "Allrightgate" (kudos to the Guardian), my respect for Milliband is now tenfold. That is, he came off as at least partly human (he was a little sneaky at the beginning and I think Paxman was at least right in calling him out for making up his own question, which let's face it, is the lifeblood of not only both politicians here but all politicians universally I would think) which was great. Cameron... I don't know.

I absolutely think it's ridiculous when Miliband is trying to answer Paxman's question at 1:09:28, and mentions immigration benefits, and then Paxman says he doesn't want to hear about benefits but rather numbers. Hang on a second? if it was just numbers and nothing to do with benefits or taking out of the system, what problem could Paxman possibly be implying with immigrants coming in, if it's just about numbers and not about monetary purposes. Clearly just trying to make Miliband look like he wasn't answering the question when he was, but was just talking about aspects surrounding immigration, and used much detail.

I choose to work this way- it's perfect flexibility whilst I'm a young person paying rent and studying as I can juggle my work hours with my work. My employers are always very reasonable, fair and supportive of our rota requests; there is always the demand for fewer hours or for extra ones and swapping hours with other colleagues is useful. However, we don't have the same rights as salaried or contracted staff.
