I am that 'Martin Penny'. Uploaded this ages ago and now at 150k views. Bill was a lovely fella and drank me under the table in the hotel the night before. Lifetime ambition fulfilled thanks to Swanny..., a mention on TMS. Albeit in a round about kind of way.....x
DingoDooable yes mate. I got to the final again where I think, this time, I managed to at least answer two correct questions before crashing and burning again.... lol. RIP Bill
I've always considered myself a good quizzer; but for one man to have so much knowledge across the board like that..? Incredible!!!! Truly Amazing. (and after a night on the beer too? doubly amazing)
The new series of Fifteen To One is absolutely here - www.channel4.com/programmes/fifteen-to-one/4od - we're very proud to have it back! It's on Fridays at 8pm.
literally one of the best - certainly most underrated - UK tv moments ever. absolutely legendary. thank you Martin for posting this and preserving the legacy.
This is why 15-1 is the best. When the two other contestants are left standing there, William G. Stewart straight up invites them onto another show to have another go.
Thanks for posting Martin. My late father used to watch this a lot, and got quite a few questions right I'm proud to say. If you were going to lose to anyone I'm guessing it would have been someone like Bill. Also what a gent William G. Stewart was on air. I hope he was as genuine and decent off camera. May him and Bill rest in peace. Best wishes to you.
Great thing about 15/1 was that there was no pissing around asking the contestants a load of questions about themselves, they just got straight into it!!
Now that is something special. We have this format ( bit changed ) in Poland since 1994 and it is called One out of ten :) Anyway in-game formula is similar, also 40 questions in final. There were few brainiacs in programs history, but nobody did 40 questions in a row. Type "Dominik Rauer" if want to see our format and a guy who was on right track.
THANKS for this! I've uploaded an earlier final which featured the highest score AT THAT TIME. After which, I ESCAPED Britain - thus MISSING this. For me, it's over a decade late - but thankyou for allowing me to FINALLY see a 15-1 MAXIMUM!
Watching this couple hours after Polish version of the show, "Ten to One", saw their first maximum scoring contestant in history. Artur Baranowski scored 803 points in the final round, answering all 40 final questions correctly by himself. Why not 433? In Polish version if contestant scores 3 correct answers by the buzzer and asks for question, every correct answer is awarded with double points.
Definitely the most extraordinary episode of Fifteen to One in the show's history. I remember watching this and Countdown everyday when I got home from school and so I should have remembered actually seeing this episode on the day it was shown.
I remember watching this when it was aired. I was an apprentice at a newspaper so the hours were 6am till 3pm so was always home in time for it. What a legend!!
This is the best quiz, no nonsense, about long introductions, some of the people who were on this quiz, won a million on who wants to be a millionaire. Mandela effect, I didn't know , Bill mckaig died. What a very knowledgeable man, William g Stewart, I couldn't believe he died a few years ago. I would've loved him to go against the chasers, RIP to two very intellectual men💙💙🙏...
It's a real shame they axed Fifteen to One. It was a great no-frills general knowledge test. Modern quiz shows try too hard to be cutting edge, but this was what it was all about.
My Dad loved this show, just heard a new series starts on Monday this week. He was always on about this episode. Grand Final best of the best episode was fairly epic as well.
Yesterday, the maximum score was achieved in Polish version of this game show (1 z 10). The winner contestant, Artur Baranowski, scored 803 points, because in final round, each correct answer for the "self-nominating" question is worth 20 points!
Arguably, Daphne Fowler's performance was greater still - as her episode had 11 surviving contestants at the beginning of round 2 (while Bill McKaig's only had 5 contestants at this stage, and thus only needed to eliminate two). Either way, they were both incredible.
Having been a previous winner invited back from previous seasons and having then recently achieved what is theoretically the maximum possible score in the final, Bill McKaig will most certainly go down in the history books as one of the greatest ever Fifteen to One contestants of all time.
TMS brought me here. How did they not start laughing half way through (I did), or appeal? Amazing effort. A walking encyclopedia. I managed to answer 3 correctly. ...
I loved 15 - 1! It's my favourite of the quiz shows for three reasons. 1) There are tons of questions asked during the half hour, unlike the likes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire where you are lucky to get 15 in one episode, 2) They standard is the same throughout, meaning no absurdly easy or absurdly difficult questions like on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire or The Weakest Link, and 3) All the questions are about things which are worth knowing, not about pointless celebrity gossip!
To be fair, the standard could fluctuate sometimes, e.g. true or false questions (or others with a similarly limited range of answers). But in general, it was a great level for a quiz show. For example, I got 60% of these answers, and might have guessed another 10% - that's quite a satisfying ratio. I also like University Challenge, which meets your first and third points, but some questions are very tough. Generally, my success rate is much lower!
An amazing achievement, the first step(a single step) answer though? He might not have been given that one but he deserved it frankly. Well played Bill
A fella Nick Terry, who won the whole thing 3 or 4 times .Daphne off Eggheads also answered all the questions right before this, but she got one wrong in the middle round and finished up 1 point short on 432. I remember watching Bill the day it was aired, very impressive!!
This was a fantastic effort from Bill here - a maximum possible 433 score, and only an absolutely other-worldly performance from his long-time grand final rival Nick Terry prevented him from winning the Grand Final of this series too... It would have seemed inconceivable at the time given his formidable knowledge here, but this would actually be Bill's last ever winning appearance on 15-to-1 - in the grand final of this series, he was (as aforementioned) eventually outclassed by Nick Terry, and had to settle for the runner-up spot; then, when he returned in the following series, he was finally eliminated from the show after losing his heat game
Matti watton, got the highest score, in the grand final, against Olav, I can't remember the other contestants name, over 200 . And the grand final questions were very hard. I wonder how WGS , would do if he was a contestant, he was a very knowledgeable man. I miss those days when this quiz aired in 1988 to 2003. You learn a lot more listening to quizzes than school.
I love the look on his face when he got asked the Bible question like: "I'm a minister in the church, you can't expect me to know stuff like that!" lol! Phenomenal.
This was indeed in early 1999. The following year Daphne Fowler came the closest possible to matching Bill's feat when she scored 432, and in 2002 Michael Penrice also came within a whisker when he managed 423.
I understand it has been back for a few years. It's been presented since 2014 by Sandi Toksvig. It's pretty much the same kind of quiz as before. This time though, the winner of the grand final receives a cash prize of £40,000.
LOL I'm just some schmuck you've never met from Glasgow, I merely read the comments, and saw the resemblance :-) Funnily enough though, I used to work in the Gorbals, like Bill. Sadly the similarities between us end there. Kudos to you for uploading this mate.
Looks like it was an interesting show. I live in Canada, and despite how good this show is, I'm not sure if it would work on this side of the pond. I have seen a few episodes of the revival with the new host, and she seems to have more interaction with the contestants on there, likely because it seems to be a one hour show this time. Despite the dominant performance, it must still be difficult to get this far in one episode.
This has to be the greatest feat in any form of quiz knowleedge,I got most of them, but doing this live ,a tremendous feat..Just wondered did he ever do any other quizzing ? mastermind Ect ?
Correct, the other 400+ scores were Michael Penrice with 423 [beaten on a buzzer question] and Matti Watton in the same series with 412 [incorrect answer to a question]
This is a truly outstanding performance from contestant Bill McKaig, no hesitations just quick fire answers to a lot of diverse subjects, brilliant performance. Not sure if this is true but according to a Wiki page, he was banned from the pub quiz tournament because of his incredible achievement on 15-1? Bad form on the pub I say.
I only knew three of those questions. The Venessa Mae (violinist) , Sherlock Holmes, and the Peter Pan questions. But ridiculous. I now have a role model to look toward. The guy who either knows just about everything, or knows how to cheat really freaking well (I am hoping for the intellect though).
Bill sadly passed away in April 2021. One of the all-time greats of quizzing. RIP Bill
Very sad news. A quizzer amongst quizzers , may he rest in peace.
Source?
I thought it was April 2021
You’re right, it was April, having just Googled.
William g Stewart also died some years ago. He was the best host on this show I couldn't stand sandi tovig she was annoying

+Martin Penny
martin - did he win the final !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt sorry for you and Alison. Like a couple of snooker players forced to sit while the other clears the table with a maximum break.
DingoDooable yes mate. I got to the final again where I think, this time, I managed to at least answer two correct questions before crashing and burning again.... lol. RIP Bill
Martin Penny hi Martin is bill still alive do you know ?
dean` Brady no idea mate.... Hoping so. He’s still my phone a friend should Millionaire come back....
The best game show presenter ever. Such a gentlemanly style. RIP legend.
Yep he was the best host for this show couldn't stand sandi tovig she was annoying
I've always considered myself a good quizzer; but for one man to have so much knowledge across the board like that..? Incredible!!!! Truly Amazing. (and after a night on the beer too? doubly amazing)

Wow, you're the official channel and you've commented on someones channel that has your own content uploaded...that's odd!
Kudos to them for not asking the content to be removed. Nice work Channel 4! #props

Simply the best quiz show ever in the history of television. 15-1, you are sorely missed.
He would make a great Chaser
Hes dead now sadly
Thanks for posting Martin. My late father used to watch this a lot, and got quite a few questions right I'm proud to say. He pulled Laura so he definitely had a lot going for him in real life too.
Great thing about 15/1 was that there was no pissing around asking the contestants a load of questions about themselves, they just got straight into it!!
The old one was good yes. The newer series i hated it lots of pissing about in it and sandi tovig was plain annoying
@@sexydudeuk2172 Turned a half hour show into an hour, just by adding loads of unnecessary waffle.
RIP Bill Mckaig. Quizzing legend
Only just seen this, very sad - I wonder how veterans like him felt about the recent developments in international cricket.
R.I.P William G .Made 15-1 what it was.A proper quiz with a proper(and bloody good) host.
Now that is something special. We have this format ( bit changed ) in Poland since 1994 and it is called One out of ten :)

Bill is simply awsome!!, this show should be brought back asap.
R.I.P William G Stewart, Grew up watching 15 to 1 on Channel 4, was a great gameshow to watch.
This is the best quiz, no nonsense, about long introductions, some of the people who were on this quiz, won a million on who wants to be a millionaire. I thought William G Stewart stepped down as host, hence the show being taken off?
My Dad loved this show, just heard a new series starts on Monday this week. He was always on about this episode. Grand Final best of the best episode was fairly epic as well.
Still marvelling at this.... how can he know the answers to all of the questions. Great show.

Excellent. Can you upload that mate?
ruclips.net/video/vdLhIX2Avos/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Daphne Fowler came close to doing the same. Just one point off having missed a question in round 2.
Another contestant came close as well scoring 423 but someone beat him to the buzzer
Arguably, Daphne Fowler's performance was greater still - as her episode had 11 surviving contestants at the beginning of round 2 (while Bill McKaig's only had 5 contestants at this stage, and thus only needed to eliminate two).

TMS brought me here. How did they not start laughing half way through (I did), or appeal? Amazing effort. A walking encyclopedia. I managed to answer 3 correctly. ...
Great to watch this. Lovely, modest person.
I loved 15 - 1! He makes it look so easy😂😂😂🏴
This was a very unique episode. Ten people were eliminated in the first round and Bill got the highest score ever in 15-1.
CLASSIC I remember watching this episode.
R.I.P. William. Class act. Always reminded me of the actor who played the equalizer
I believe the actor was Edward Woodward.
Indeed he was
Bill sadly died last year to
An amazing achievement, the first step(a single step) answer though? He might not have been given that one but he deserved it frankly. Well played Bill
Its back on our screens but the chances of this score being matched is between slim and none.
Came here to try to regrow the brain cells I lost by watching 10 minutes of Deal or No Deal.
Crazy, he is obviously very knowledgeable but there is a massive element of luck and he he had both. Great to see.
Was honestly surprised Bill was never on Eggheads.
Great performance 👏 made it look so easy. I wish they would bring this back just as it was. Quick fire questions with very little faffing around
15-1. Perfect show.
A fella Nick Terry, who won the whole thing 3 or 4 times .Daphne off Eggheads also answered all the questions right before this, but she got one wrong in the middle round and finished up 1 point short on 432.
I remember watching Bill the day it was aired, very impressive!!
Well done, Alison.
I watched this at the time and to this day I still remember his name. A pity you don't have the full episode. He was phenomenal throughout.
It's split into two parts
I remember watching this at the time - unbelievable!
This was a fantastic effort from Bill here - a maximum possible 433 score, and only an absolutely other-worldly performance from his long-time grand final rival Nick Terry prevented him from winning the Grand Final of this series too... thumbs up if test match special sent you here

I also watched it on the day - fair play to the bloke, all round knowledge.
greatest ever scotsman
This and mastermind are proper quiz shows
They should bring this back it was so simple but brilliant.
I understand it has been back for a few years. It's been presented since 2014 by Sandi Toksvig. It's pretty much the same kind of quiz as before. This time though, the winner of the grand final receives a cash prize of £40,000.

#CHALLENGEUK MAXIMUM SCORED MCKAIG 🇬🇧
Think i saw this episode when it was on :)
Awesome.
I wish this was still on, what a show. Game shows would be so much better now if they still used retro 90s intro music.
"A great fan of Scottish cricket". Good man!
Outstanding
I have to agree, with BOTH! I can;t believe it!
Fantastic performance!!
well that's one way to secure a spot on a finals board.
Correct, the other 400+ scores were Michael Penrice with 423 [beaten on a buzzer question] and Matti Watton in the same series with 412 [incorrect answer to a question]
Daphne Fowler too
432
TMS brought me here
Jacob May And me But waiting for end of play to watch
Nick Sweetman And me.
I remember this too - what a legend
FML! I actually remember this exact episode.
The other two contestants look so bored and resigned to their defeat.
This guy should present Songs of Praise.
As the Four horsemen of the Apocalypse at 2.47, it was a film starring Rudolph Valentino
i so used to love this show when i was young ,why did thay ever cancel it?
I couldn't possibly comment!!! ;-) Fair do's... Bill's a nice guy. First person I'm ringing up as phone a friend anyway!
Would love to know which number was the most regular winner on 15-to-1 in its original run.
Remarkable, I use Bill in my quiz team next time LOL !!!!
Brilliant thanks I love the bit at the start! So random and a very camp voice over "in a very *active* life... hahahahahaha
Hi Aunty Donna boys. This is proof I've done my homework.
I also did my homework
ahhh shit I forgot to do my bum dance essay
Graeme Swann forced me to come here.
simon250505 And me But waiting for end of play to watch
me too via TMS
Would love to see this guy on The Chase.
Clever chap.
At the start it looks like Bill is listening to the beat on his headset & mixing on his turntables
4:38 that lad in the middle
Puts the Chasers to shame really!
INCREDIBLY CLEVER AND FOREBODING QUIZMASTER.DIRECTED BLESS THIS HOUSE I BELIEVE,AROUND 1976 ISH.
So Mr Cornwell- erm, I mean Mr Penny! Did you and Alison get to come back?!
The theme tune actually rocks! Why they changed it is beyond me.
very impressive
Tried to see how many I'd get, 29, with s couple of guesses, getting all 40 is incredible
Another thing is Idont think he hesitated on any of the answers
I only knew three of those questions.
The Venessa Mae (violinist) , Sherlock Holmes, and the Peter Pan questions. But ridiculous. I now have a role model to look toward. The guy who either knows just about everything, or knows how to cheat really freaking well (I am hoping for the intellect though).
Clever man
One of my biggest regrets is not phoning my Grandparents after this to ask if they answered them all!
They would have thought it funny 😄
fantastic!
An amazing achievement quizing
RIP WILLIAM G STEWART
@623058 It was the only time. The only person to get a score near it was Daphne Fowler, who's now a regular on the Eggheads.
