Let's travel to Greece and let's visit the beautiful Greek island of Amorgos. We will walk to a secluded bay in Amorgos in order to view the famous Olympia shipwreck which lies in the southwestern coast of the Greek island of Amorgos, near Kalotaritissa beach. The Olympia shipwreck has been featured in many documentaries and travel shows, as well as in Luc Besson’s feature film “The Big Blue” starring Jean Reno, which was filmed in various locations around Amorgos.
According to residents, a ship approached the island in February 1980. The captain was looking for a place near the coast where he would find shelter from the strong north winds. The ship anchored near the beach of Kalotaritissa but did not hold and the waves threw it on the rocks.
Nowadays, Amorgos Shipwreck is visited by lots of tourists every year that are impressed by its beauty and take pictures of it. Until today, the first name of the ship, which was “Inland”, is still visible despite the deterioration of its exterior. Later on, the vessel was given the name “Olympia.”
The beach along with the iconic shipwreck itself were used as a shooting area for various travel shows and documentaries, such us the movie “Le grand bleu” of Luc Besson in 1988.
Amorgos is the easternmost island of the Cyclades island group and the nearest island to the neighbouring Dodecanese island group in Greece.

lol... I will be in the island of Amorgos in 5 days and I may go to this place again to videotape the ship... it is far away however, at the other end of the island and I am not sure if I will be able to get there... it is a beautiful site indeed..

Yes very beautiful about 10 mins walking from the main road.I was here today lots of garbage though.

Hello, thank you for your comments!! I walked from the main road as well and I had to stand at the edge of the water so that the garbage was not visible on the video.. Later on I spoke to some Greeks so that they could go clean the place up and quite obviously they were not interested.. how sad..
I'm going to put this on my list to visit in Sept. Hope they clean the garbage up.

There is something about a shipwreck's power to draw us to it that is unlike any other man-made object on the planet. Perhaps it is a genetically ingrained response to centuries of exploration and therefore uncertainty and danger. Perhaps we feel it calling us back to the sea from whence we came. Whatever the reasons (and I suspect they are somewhat co-dependent) the mysterious attraction is undeniable. Thank you Vic for sharing your excellent video with us! Wright Flyer, USAF (1968-1972).

One the lest side os ship I left my lead weights for diving about 15 year ago :)
They are probably still there... I visited the shipwreck last year and it was half the size from when I first saw it 10 years ago, the waves and the salty water are slowly destroying it..

That shipwreck in Corfu is much smaller and not as spectacular as this one..
@@VicStefanu that I know but it seems the reason why it's there is not very clear to most. Also not me. They say it suddenly appeared but they also say thing about a refugees boat.. I don't know but I will ask it when I'm there.
