  • Talking about emotions with your child is hard, and we get it 🙌🏼
The Brookings Institution suggests 5 amazing strategies to help you support your child in developing emotional competency. Here’s the rundown 🔽
    1. Remind them that every person has their own mental world 🌍: You can do so by discussing how each person in the family feels about a certain situation in multiple instances.
    2. Let them know that emotions are ever-changing 🔄: Reiterating how you feel in various situations so that they know having multiple emotions is valid.
    3. Talk about feelings everywhere 💭: Don’t just talk about it when they’re feeling upset/angry/nervous. Take time to recognize their emotions if they’re feeling happy/proud/excited too.
    4. Allow them to share everything first before you give advice ♦️: Don’t rush into conclusions about how they’re feeling, even if you think it is “invalid” or “irrational.” Hear them out then offer your insights.
    5. Use stories to expand their emotional vocabulary 📚: Try using Nookly to discuss emotions through characters, stories, and imaginary worlds that can help them visualize feelings.
Let us know how you discuss emotions with your child in the comments 😊🦄
