    The horse actually suffered a ruptured aorta, and death was inevitable. The way he seemed to carefully put the rider down before collapsing says everything about this horse's love for him. Watching an animal convulse like that would be horrible to witness when all you could do was watch helplessly.

    One of the worst events for horses . Take a 1,200 pound horse and make it jump thousands of hours over high obstacles onto it's small ankles , stressing it's tendons , and frequently going painfully lame at an early age only to be put down , due to this abuse . Horses pay a terrible price for our entertainment , and the general public doesn't know this and riders keep jumping and deny there is a problem . There is !

    • @Lauren-vd4qe
      @Lauren-vd4qe 3 года назад +7

      not at all; horses LOVE to jump; I couldnt stop mine once i aimed it at a jump; Hickstead was not abused; horses wont or cant perform at this level in the public eye if they ARE abused. If u want to see horse abuse; check out the big sick lick class in the tennessee walking horse venue; now THATS ABUSE!!! the owners/trainers shd b fined and jailed...

      @DoubleDogDare54 3 года назад +2

      Early age? Check out the ages of the horses doing cross country at the Tokyo Olympics. They are mostly well over the age of "early". 13/15/17 years old and still going strong. And they don't jump "thousands of hours". Jumping a course only takes a few minutes and these horses are bred and conditioned for it. And these horses are extremely valuable. You don't "...keep jumping and deny there is a problem" with horses like Hickstead.

      Anuerysm is usually caused by a blood clot and blood clots are caused by injuries either internal or superficial.I tend to believe the horse died from a blood clot from jumping such demanding jumps .Just because you can train the horse to do something unnatural doesn't mean they like doing it .Their bodies break down it's proven science what these sports do to the equine body .It really sad you deny it even with the science to back it up.

      First of all, he’s a rider, not a jockey. Second of all, there was no real way to know anything was wrong with Hickstead. This was a tragic situation that was likely going to happen regardless if he were retired or not. Shame it happened at a show, but nobody could have known. Third of all, as someone who’s shown horses before, I know that only the competitor and the arena staff and volunteers are permitted in the ring, so no, Hickstead’s owners couldn’t have just run out there.

      When an animal goes down, you want to be out of the way to allow the vets and training staff to help the horse. Also the bond between rider and horse is very strong (the way he fell shows that he tried to not fall onto the rider) and the rider is probably in shock and so the freeze is understandable. Also this condition in horses usually occurs without warning. Yes sometimes heart failure can be seen before hand by hearing of heart murmur and doing and echocardiogram but these can spontaneously appear too. I don't think a rider out there would knowingly compete a horse that has heart failure cause there would be evidence of that occurring. In this case there doesn't seem to be an evidence to show this. Most of the time if a horse has an extremely loud heart murmur, most of the time they will be given the last act of kindness.
      Sadly there are some out there that prefer to sell their horses to auction for profit instead of this last act. They are the ones one should be having a go at

      When a horse is thrashing around like that and you aren't sure why and what he might do and when, the last thing you want to do is get down on the ground with him and give in a nice hug. You could potentially get killed if you do.
      When the horse went down he was beyond saving at that point. And you are talking a very large animal here, not your child or grandfather. You can hold Grandpa's hand as he passes, but try that with a 1200 lb horse in his death throes and he could unintentionally take you with him.

      Clearly, when the horse first went down, he stepped away to allow it to get back up - probably thinking it had just stumbled at first. Horses need a LOT of space to get up and if you’ve ever been near one you would know that. Once it was clear the horse was fitting he did the right thing by staying calm and avoiding the legs because, like it or not, horses thrash and kick about during seizures and can seriously injure anyone near (or themselves)!
      You are being really harsh. He could well have been saying calming soothing words at the time (we don’t know) to the horse who, sadly, was oblivious anyway. It was having a painful and severe heart attack according to the news afterwards. It could have happened at any time …..like it does to humans. This animal was super fit so it would have been a massive shock to all concerned

    CPR for full grown horse :
    Life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation performing on full grown horses suffering cardiac arrest, driving their knees into the mare’s chest, or sitting on the horse’s chest and bouncing up and down.
    Support it with mechanical intermittent positive lung ventilation at a rate of 10 breaths per minute with 100% oxygen, and Ringer’s lactate solution (a mixture of sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride in water) was given.
    Give it a shot of adrenaline in a bid to restore her heartbeat. (6mg of adrenaline was given intravenously, followed by 5mL of heparinised saline).
    CPR for foals :
    Use both the hands to squeeze the resuscitation bag at a rate of 10 to 20 breaths per minute, for forcing the air into the lungs. Check heartbeat. If it is less than 40 beats per minute or it is less than 60 per minute but not increasing; then prepare to give chest compressions. Place the Foal on a firm, dry surface.

    Dont they check the horses before performing like at endurance races then they have a better view on the horses health?

    • @lionking7888
      @lionking7888 3 года назад

      @Leslie Gibbons true that is at least a positive act instead the long exhausting races that the horse must endure. A loyal horse to his rider can give al it has untill total exhausting the rider must beware the limit his horse can take especially in those races. Arabs are the ultimate champions in endurance races.

      @Leslie Gibbons arabians are well known for their loyal charachter and high intelligence, if the owner falls while riding they turn to help as if they understand the need for their owner. My grandfather had allways a couple mare and stallion. They enjoy and are made for running its in their nature. What line of breed you have Egyptian line or Peninsula?

      @Leslie Gibbons yes they can touch your soul with their whole being isva special experience only true souls can feel. You have them buyd or as new born and in what climate you live.

      @Leslie Gibbons 2 young and a mature one, they can reach 40 years when treated well. Are you a breeder? I live in Europe.

      @Leslie Gibbons thats best way of living at farm or ranch. My grandfather had a farm and his 2 horses were his joy and hobby. For children its exciting to grow up with horses. Do you have children?

    Így nem tud felállni! Forgács mögé, tolni hátul, dönteni oldalt a fejét (NEM A ZABLÁNÁL) húzni. Sajnos ezért rossz a lovaknak, mert egyesek pénzéhezek, nem foglalkoznak az egészségükkel. Egy csontkovács helyre tudta volna hozni.

      There wasn't anything that could be done for him, how do you know he didn't speak to the horse. I saw this horse at the world Equestrian Games in 2010. He was just as brave for a different writer is he was for Eric. Sometimes horses run with their legs when they're dying even when they've been euthanized with a shot.

    • @sarahposey7166

      It is also extremely dangerous to be near their legs and the horse was very tight to the fence when he went down
